The goal of the center is to establish nanomagnetism as well as to develop novel spintronic materials through studying the domain configurations and spin dynamics in nanomagnetic materials, so called “nanospinics”, To achieve this goal, various nanomagnetic materials including nano-scale thin films, nanodots and arrays, and molecular magnets will be artificially synthesized, and ultrasensitive structural, magnetic, magnetooptical, and domain-dynamic measurement techniques will be developed. In particular, research will be carried out with focus on three fundamental issues such as (1)domain configurations and spin orientations in the ground state, (2)domain reversal mechanism under external conditions, and (3)possibility of macroscopic quantum effects. These issues will not only provide the essential knowledge for establishment of nanomagnetism but also answer for the ultimate limitations of storage density, switching speed, and archival time of spintronic devices
