A homage to Alexander Solzhenitsyn

This is the first in what I hope will be a series of postings translated by Fred Scrooby from Robert Steuckers’ interesting and important Synergies Européennes site.

Steuckers, interviewed here by the New Right journal Synthesis, is a heavyweight figure in the philosophical background of European nativist politics.  Synergies Européennes exists to gather and circularise not Steuckers own thought particularly, but all contributions of interest to the movement.  This first quite brief translation, A homage to Alexander Solzhenitsyn, was initially published a year ago and appeared on Altermedia - though untranslated.  Steuckers chose to repost it this month, and Fred and I hope you find it a little more instantly readable now and of interest.

Finally, I want to thank Fred publicly for undertaking this task.  He is MR’s premier polyglot, and talent like that just can’t be allowed to go to waste!

Slavic languages specialist Barbara de Munnynck, who is Flemish, devotes two full pages in the Flemish newspaper De Standaard (December 8, 2006) to enthusiastically paying homage to Russian author Alexander Solzhenitsyn.  She retraces and analyses his whole body of work and writes this very fitting conclusion:

Solzhenitsyn is no longer in fashion.  It’s because of the recent political upheavals.  Simply put, this man by his nature stands apart from all fashion.  Though known as a political writer, he’s closer to a religion-inspired moralist.  He critiqued the Soviet dicatorship from a spiritual point of view, not in the name of an alternative political ideology.  Measured against the yardstick of Solzhenitsyn’s ethical criteria, neither the West nor the New Russia has any worth.  For these reasons Solzhenitsyn might be considered merely a grumpy old man or a perennial dissident.  No matter:  his attitude toward life, one of coherence, commands respect.  It was forged under trying circumstances and has certain things in common with the Christian humanism of St. Augustine, St. Thomas Aquinas, and Edmund Burke.  Solzhenitsyn is a venerable prophet whose message exists beyond the passage of time.  The enthusiasm for him personally during the Cold War was as strange as the disinterest in him today.

A little honesty - not a lot - works for the Swiss right

Keen cuckoo clock observers will no doubt be aware of Sunday’s election in the gun-toting, bank-ridden concantenated canton-nation called Switzerland.  The result was a resounding success for billionaire industrialist Christoph Blocher’s Swiss People’s Party, and for white sheep everywhere.

The SVP already holds two of the seven seats on the ruling Federal Council, and is the largest party in the bicameral parliament.  As forecast it increased its share of the poll from 27.7% to 29%, continuing its steady progress from the 22% base won in 1999.

Ueli Maurer (who is, in fact, party leader - not Blocher) said, “We have reached the highest score ever since this electoral system began.”

This is impressive by any nationalist measure, and compares with the solid if, now, unspectacular success of Vlaams Belang in Flemish Belgium.  Notwithstanding the SVP’s entrenchment within the power structure, and its consequent and enviable freedom to speak only a lightly varnished truth, there are some interesting parallels between the two parties.

Both present a substantially Conservative - not overtly racial nationalist - prospectus to the electorate.  Both have a spiritual disconnection with their French-speaking social democratic fellow-nationals.  Both have to play the self-righteous left’s game and deny that they are “racist”, and are pilloried all the same:-

image

But the SVP has its share of power in the most democratic country in Europe, and it shows in campaign policies like:-

Foreign residents who commit crimes in Switzerland should be expelled after serving their sentences. If they are minors, the parents should be expelled with them.

The construction of minarets - the traditional tower of a mosque - should be forbidden in Switzerland.

When foreign residents of a commune want to acquire Swiss citizenship, the commune should continue to have the right to put their applications to a popular vote.

Foreigners who do not learn the language of the area in which they are resident must leave the country.

The party will surely now claim a mandate to push forward with these ideas.  It will be interesting to see to what extent it succeeds.

Lowell podcasts

Norman Lowell, he of Imperium Europa and the subject of a very good Renner interview at the end of January, is now podcasting.  He kindly sent me links to his opening English language broadcasts, which are numbers two and four in the series (numbers one and three were recorded in Maltese).

Podcast Number Two explores the Imperium Europa duality idea and clarifies certain misconceptions.  Podcast Number Four explores the concepts of Dominium and Imperium.

A good day in Flanders

A very good day, in fact.  Vlaams Belang’s chairman, Frank Vanhecke, characterised his Party’s local election performance as “a landslide”.  But mindful, no doubt, of the political Establishment’s past record he said, “There is no way to disregard this victory.”

From The Indy:-

Early results showed the party had gained 5.6 percentage points to reach 20.6 per cent in the 308 municipal councils across Flanders, the northern Dutch-speaking part of Belgium, and surged beyond its traditional stronghold in Antwerp.

However in Antwerp itself, Belgium’s second largest city, the party appeared to be simply treading water, winning the same one third of the vote that it captured in the last regional elections. That made it far from clear that the Vlaams Belang, which means Flemish Interest, had made enough progress to force other parties to allow it to share power.

Actually, VB increased its vote share in Antwerp to 33.5%.  Its relegation from first to second place came about through dramatic gains by the Socialists, inspired by their popular mayor Patrick Janssens.  They took 35.3% of the city’s vote, in large measure because support for Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt’s Flemish Liberal Democrats fell away badly.  “The average trend of the Party is not so good,” he said, “We must acknowledge that the government has had a few bad months and we know that whoever leads faces the most fire.”

Now, as before, we will see the anti-Flemish parties in Antwerp form a coalition to keep VB out of power.  The road is a long one for VB.  But these results are their best ever, and demonstrate that that road is being travelled all across Flanders.

France and Flemish-France and the little uses of immigrants

image

Degrading directive painted on a schoolwall in the north of France, the words “Flemish is not allowed”.  They have since been removed.

The Flemish Regional Alliance of France reports that from this year on the Lille Academy, a cornerstone of the educational system in a region of northern France with a population of 4 million, will discontinue its training of Dutch language teachers.  Instead and with what irony, the exotic language of the newly arrived immigrants, mainly of North African Arab descent, will be taught.

Attempt to kill BNP leader fails

Breaking News.

18:00hrs Breaking news – an attempt by Swedish Communists to murder BNP Chairman, Nick Griffin and his wife has been foiled by Swedish police.

A delegation of BNP officials travelled over to Stockholm to help launch the campaign of the National Democratic Party which is contesting the national parliamentary (Riksdag) elections due to take place in September. Nick Griffin was accompanied by his wife Jackie, Sadie Graham the BNP Group Development Officer and Martin Reynolds to look after their personal security.

The delegation along with several Swedish hosts boarded a commuter train in the capital Stockholm on Saturday afternoon as they travelled away from the election launch venue.

Details are admittedly vague but it is believed that a tip off was made to a Stockholm radio station who alerted Police, who in turn stopped and evacuated the train.

Swedish Police have not yet provided any details of which, if any, group who has claimed responsibility and while, given the amateur nature of the device it is likely Far Left extremists are the most likely suspects, any link to Islamic fundamentalists has not been ruled out.

Further news will be posted as soon as it comes in.

Internationalism is the new nationalism (or should that be the other way round?)

I know that a number of both bloggers and readers here are very much taken in by Alexander Dugin and National Bolshevism. Suffice to say, considering the man is casually ignored in his own country, this is more than a little peculiar. I never realized hard-core nationalists were such an exportable product.

This is yet odder still if one considers Dugin’s actual views. He believes in the break up of the whole world into four separate supra-national organizations. These would be the Anglo-sphere, Sino-Japan [don’t mention the war!], Euro-Africa [don’t ask] and Russo-India [please don’t ask!]. And how do national loyalties fit into this?

Um, wait a minute…

Oh yes, they don’t. On any sensical measure- such as supporting rights of national self-determination- Dugin is not a nationalist, but a global governor with his own historically blind plan for a new world order. How on earth does he intend to reconcile the Chinese and Japanese, or, even better, the ever so culturally homogeneous Germany and Madagascar? The Taiwanese react violently to union with China, let alone the rest of East Asia. The most Europhile nation, France, voted against union with Britain and Germany. I can just imagine their unbridled joy at the prospect of uniting with the Sudan or Zimbabwe.

Most nobody apart from his fellow cosmopolitan pitchfork populist, Alan de Benoist, is looking forward to the day his country becomes amalgamated in some pan-timezone empire. Dugin’s utopian program will require a worldwide dictatorship, one which will have to trample wholesale on precisely those rights of association (and disassociation) and that sense of Westerness and Englishness which we at MR.com hold so dear.

Dugin’s alternative to the current world order is no alternative, but rather a bizarre iteration of it. In its universalism and disregard for the wants and opinions of the people who will serve as its Guinea pigs, his philosophy is entirely Bolshevik and not at all National.

European nationalism seems to have become every bit as blinkered as Marxism indulging in its worst ideological excesses, and to have entered a 1984 (or, Alice in Wonderland, if you prefer) universe, in which a French “nationalist” can take advice from a Russian “nationalist” about the need to subsume both his nation and his continent into an Afro-European empire!

Griffin on the JQ

Nick Griffin broke his long silence on the Jewish Question today with a lengthy article you can read here.

He seems to have been goaded into action by criticism from American WN’s, presumably occasioned at the Amren Conference at which he was a speaker.  He makes an interesting case - the right case for Britain, no doubt.

In it he pays some respect, at least, to ethnic genetic interests, which is the first time I have heard these three promising words from any leading BNP official.  He acknowledges the well-known negative aspects of the Jewish philosophical contribution to Western politics.  He stresses very few potential positives to be got from engagement with Jews, so I wouldn’t necessarily put him in the “Taylor camp”.  The attraction seems to be conflict avoidance ... don’t start a war on two fronts.  One of them, against Jewry, you can never win.  And losing that will lose you the other war as well - the war you must win.

My only real criticism of this article is that he directs his fire at obvious and easy targets but declines the most serious and interesting.  Conspiracy theorists and “activists of German descent” come in for most of it.  I am not sure how much he gains by bearding these guys while leaving the MacDonald thesis unaddressed.  He acknowledges that highly intelligent Ashkenazics take leading roles in every political-philosophical argument, not merely those of the left.  This is true, and he cites TBC and the great Richard Hernnstein, for example.  But, Hernnstein was still acting out of his perceived ethnic interests, a factor which Griffin prefers not to mention.

So, if Jewish activism in toto is indeed doggedly ethnocentric and as such a survival strategy, as MacDonald contends, then what possible change can be effected through rapprochement?  The answer seems simply to be “None but it does not matter - it is realpolitik.”

Ocean Frontier Fertility: The Global Prospects

The prospects are great for ecologically imposed patriarchy enhancing the fertility of whites via oceanic frontiers.  The majority of the earth’s surface remains not only uncultivated, but not biologically productive despite the presence of adequate sunlight and near-adequate nutrients. If recent experiments in iron fertilization of high nitrogen low chlorophyll oceanic surface regions are any indication, the primary ingredient lacking is the pioneering spirit that led to the cultivation and increased carrying capacity of the Anglosphere’s frontier territories: The United States, Canada, New Zealand and Australia.  It is reasonable to expect that the Anglosphere alone could increase its numbers by a factor of 10, relatively unmolested by multicultural supremacists, during this pioneering renaissance and maintain if not improve the quality of their populations.  Other, less sea-faring European peoples could enjoy smaller but nevertheless profound population and territorial relief.  Moreover this population increase could be very rapid if the fertility rates of the United States frontier is any guide.  This is a prospect that seems plausible in no other way short of world war.

Le Pen’s HARDtalk

Thanks are due to the commenter mysteriously and, one would think, temporarily calling himself LePen for posting a video link to Jean-Marie Le Pen’s interview with the BBC’s Stephen Sackur.  It was posted today on the thread to a piece I put up nearly three weeks ago.  It is worth watching, lasts one hour and is part of the BBC’s HARDtalk series which goes out on BBC World.  It was broadcast on 28th November.

There are two ways you could approach this interview.  You can study Le Pen’s performance for signs of his suitability for the Presidency, if he stands.  Or you can marvel at Sackur’s wildly excessive liberal posturing, right down to calling Nick Griffin a racist criminal and Le Pen himself a racist and anti-semite.  The latter, given Sackur’s problems in Israel in the past, does seem slightly hypocritical.

But anyway the anti-semite jibe paid off because Le Pen wearily and correctly explained that he had never said the fateful words that all liberals in France attribute to him, to whit “the holocaust is a detail of history”.  He was referring, he told Sackur, to the gas chambers - which, as it happens, go entirely unremarked in all the WW2 Allied leaders’ memoirs.

Be that as it may, the opportunity for the self-appointed guardians of our anti-racist purity to spontaneously combust was just too tempting.

Another assassination attempt on Flemish nationalism

Déjà vu for Vlaams Belang.  Belgium’s biggest political party faces a trial before the Belgian Council of State because of an interview that Filip Dewinter gave the New York magazine Jewish Week (90,000 copies).  The interview was recorded on 28/10/05, coincidentally – perhaps - the same weekend the riots in France started, and soon after spread to Belgium.

The incriminating statement reads:-

Pioneer Greatness:  Burt Rutan

A little good news is needed now and then. The pioneer spirit is still alive. As a person somewhat responsible for the resurgence in technology prize awards, I have a few things to say about Burt Rutan’s capture of the Ansari X-Prize by being the first to fly a man to space in a reusable craft twice within a week. He follows the great technology pioneers Henry Ford and Charles Lindbergh, both of whom came to prominence during similar fair contests: The Guggenheim Trophy and Orteig Prize respectively. (From these exemplars some might now see a reason the powers that be shy away from fair contests—contests where they can’t really control who wins the prizes—and it was left to an Iranian family, the Ansaris, to fully fund the X-Prize.)

A speech by Burt Rutan before the National Space Society is worth a view (requires QuickTime ). He repeatedly and angrily declares his embarrassment at the risk averse culture that has strangled the pioneer spirit since the feats of the 1960s—nearly 40 years ago. I’ve got my issues with his speech but we clearly agree that something went horribly wrong with the pioneer spirit subsequent to the 1960s. The turning inward of the human potential has resulted in the halting of human progress upward and outward with aerospace technology being bureaucratically and monotonously scaled up for jumbo jet transportation. The result is the sort of danger warned of by Charles Lindbergh in his 1939 Reader’s Digest article “Aviation, Geography, and Race”: a sea of humanity threatening our race which is, after all, a global minority. Indeed the technological exemplar of this era has been driven by the rise of finance to preeminence—the inward-turning microelectronic revolution. The unintended side-effect of this revolution you see before you now as a website, but it is small consolation for the damage to our pioneer spirit.  As we were warned by Henry Ford the great struggle of the 20th century was creative industry vs global finance.  Global finance has dominated the past 30 years or more. Perhaps men like Burt Rutan can lead us out of our malaise and realize the human potential.  If so it may be due to prize awards like the Ansari X-Prize that give men even younger than Burt Rutan a chance to make a name for themselves purely via their own grit and gifts.

Filip Dewinter in Jewish Week

Vlaams Belang big-wig Filip Dewinter recently gave an interview to New York’s Jewish Week.  In fact, the interview still has to be published but I already found it on Dewinter’s website.

Dewinter worries about the Islamisation of Europe as a danger for democracy and for civilization.  He wants to put a stop to that.  In Vlaams Belang’s view, Judaïsm and Islam are foes and one has to choose sides.

Dewinter also gives a thoughtful reply to the most common reproaches his party has to endure.  The full text of the interview is as follows:-

Norway’s Progress Party wins 20% of the vote

The Norwegian electorate has turned its back on Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik’s Christian Democrats and their main Conservative allies, electing a Red-Green alliance to office and making the “far right” Progress Party the largest party of opposition.

If a parliament dominated by Reds and Greens and the far right sounds pretty wacky you could be right.  But in Norway, apparently, life has the odd political idiosyncrasy.  For one, they get away with some amazing election material:-

“Dangerous Africans walk the streets,” read one campaign slogan on the party’s website, while a poster showed a masked man aiming a shotgun at the reader. “This man is of foreign origin,” the caption said.

The Progress Party also has some very wacky policies for a supposed party of the right:-

… the Progress Party succeeded with a campaign that mixed blaming immigrants for rising crime with calls for tax cuts on alcohol and Mediterranean retirement homes for Norway’s elderly.

Yes, well, we would all like a small retirement apartment in St.Trop.  But there are an awful lot of North Africans mooching around southern France, you know.  Not sure where the benefit lies.

But maybe Jean-Marie could offer French voters a reciprocatory ski deal in the Frozen North, which would at least make the whole thing a cost-free exchange.  That’s “progress”, surely.  Unless French pensioners also wear masks and carry shotguns.

Each day I scan a number of internet media sites from the fuzzy Libertarians at Weekend Interview Show to David Duke’s Webcast where I just noticed a Belgian Patriot named Chris Roman is interviewed. Mute and a Mosquito

Some months ago a good man with some powerful opinions quit the MR threads without apology or explanation.  He mailed me thereafter, and though in my own mind I had been quite content to assign him to that unloved and disrespected category of the semitically-obsessed, he has in fact forced me to re-examine my assumptions about him, about Nationalists and Nationalism in general.  And this he has done not through the force of argument but, unwittingly no doubt, by personal virtue.

I am, let it be said, a succour for personal virtue.  It does not count for much now, perhaps.  But in my formative years it most certainly did.  My generation was raised in the full awareness that one day we could, like our fathers and grandfathers before us, be called up to defend the nation.  It did not happen.  The New National Service Act, which came into being with peace in 1945, was ended in 1963 when I still only eleven years old.  A full and free life stretched before me and before all those of my wretched generation.

What we did with it politically, of course, is turning out before our eyes to be the most grave and final of treasons.  It is my self-indulgent generation – and no other – that has demeaned our nation as some kind of multiracial, governmentally administrated geographic unit excused by universalist “ideas” and “values”.  Suffice it to say that these fine liberal “goods” have absolutely no connection to the public and private virtues with which, for the most part, our parents and teachers attempted to imbue us.  In the fifties that much of Old England still remained, and I am grateful for it.

The connection between Peak Oil and White Nationalism

For me, certainly, and no doubt for many other MR folk the suddeness with which “Peak Oil” has come on to the scene, like a great wave rising out of a calm sea, has produced rather more questions than answers.  One of these is: why is it of such interest to nationalists?

Obviously, it does not seem to matter at all yet to the mainstream political parties.  In the UK none of the three mainstreamers have indicated more than a passing acquaintance with the concept.  It’s true, though, that they all have deep ideological investments in ever-rising productivity, consumption and GDP, and that may explain it.  But interestingly, even the Green Party has paid scant attention thus far to Peak Oil and its staggering economic, social and political implications.

The one exception in my little country is the British National Party, which is striving with might and mein to interest its membership in the issue.  Yesterday Nick Griffin put up an article on the BNP website and also announced the launch of a special Peak Oil section in its newspaper.

The latter has a very interesting resumé titled Opportunity?.  It is either a piece of frothing at the mouth by frustrated, second-rate minds and political no-hopers ... or it is rather visionary and the source of hope for those who don’t welcome an endlessly diverse future.  Read and decide for yourself.

In Griffin’s article he reveals that he expects to “challenge for power” around 2030.  Yes OK, far enough away to be faintly possible, near enough to keep his supporters digging into their pockets.  But cultural marxism, our ruling ideology, will not last indefinitely anymore than classical marxism did.  2030 is certainly within the range of possibilities for an ideological collapse no less spectacular than 1989’s.

Griffin may be right about his March on Westminster, you never know.  He may be right about Peak Oil.  The latter would hugely help the former, though, and that’s the point.  He believes the Peak can be scaled, and nothing happens in politics without belief.

The Bear’s Lair: Cracks in the euro zone

At the time the Euro was introduced in 1999, its opponents prophesied a dark future of increasing currency strains within the euro zone, as disparate economies struggled together in a single currency.  Later, in 2002-03, the fears appeared to have been ill-founded, and the euro was hailed as a stunning success.  However, recent economic trends suggest that the pessimists may have been right, just a little early.

Fear and loathing in Flanders

On March 25th an event took place which perfectly defines the character of politics in Belgium.  Superficially, the legalistic effort to kill the independence movement in Flanders acquired some teeth.  The Belgian Council of Ministers agreed the final implementation arrangements (or Royal Decrees) by which the so-called “Dry-Up Law” could finally be published in the Belgian law gazette.  Parties convicted of racism can now be denied state funding for up to twelve months - a subject on which I blogged back on 15th January.

Remember, in Belgium it is illegal for politicians and parties to accept a donation over 125 euros from any private company or individual.  All political parties are, therefore, state-dependent.  But under the “Dry-Up Law” - in the Dutch sense the meaning is “draining” (of money) - the one publicly-funded Belgian party already convicted of racism can, for the second time, be brought before the firing squad.
