I feel quite proud of myself.  Through my recent posts on this blog, I have caused the white nationalists who gather here to pour scorn on the idea that white skin (or pink skin, as I call it) means anything.  I am beginning to think that if Karl Marx were still alive, I could convert him to conservatism!

Fallen from the sky

Is ethnicity something merely external to our real nature? Are we essentially creatures who have the capacity to choose our own identity and our own affiliations?

This is the liberal outlook. I believe that this view is mistaken and that ethnicity runs more deeply in our nature than liberals imagine.

I’d like to illustrate this with two small pieces of evidence I’ve come across in recent days. The first is a small item from the Melbourne Herald Sun (11/9/2000) which caught my eye when going through my files.

This brief, perfectly straightforward post is not aimed at our readers from the political right.  For you guys it presents not the slightest intellectual challenge.  You may as well move on to more interesting things.  I wouldn’t want to waste your time.

No, this is a post for the seemingly growing little band of liberals – mostly, I believe, anti-English Searchlighters, quirks and leather fetishists – who frequent the blog these days.  I think we could throw in to our target audience the occasional passing GNXPer, too (though, as we all know, the GNXP boys are big right-wingers, if you entirely detach “right-wing” from the rest of the carcass and throw it in to the Indian Ocean).

You see, I’m trying to get somebody ... anybody from the left to give a straight answer to this perfectly straight question:-

Do you agree that European Caucasians should seek to secure their futures in their own lands?

Now, how hard to answer is that?  I mean, it’s not as though it demands a lot of post-modern mental acrobatics or the unpicking of super-obfuscatory sociology-speak.  It’s perfectly plain.  It means just what it says.

But so far, despite all my sincerest efforts, I haven’t been able to interest one liberal-minded educational genius, one proto-typical member of the Great and the Good, one morally superior son or daughter of the Enlightenment in giving me an equally sincere, unslippery reply.

So I am making a direct appeal – as always also appealing for civility and good humour, of course.

OK, the hook’s baited.  The line’s cast.  H-e-r-e fishy-fishy.

On Salter and Gray, with apologies to Matt

I enjoyed reading Matt’s long and detailed post on Peter Gray’s critique of On Genetic Interests.  The growing list of efforts by men such as Gray to refute Salter are an eloquent testimony to the power and truth of his ideas.

Still, even powerful and true ideas have to be defended.  To that end I had intended to contribute a few thoughts to Matt’s and Ben’s fine defence.  But the more I got into it the more I was shocked by Gray’s desperately poor work.  My few thoughts took on a life of their own.  With apologies to Matt, then, for developing his theme into a separate post, here’s how they wound up.

Like many critics of Salter, Gray has a problem with the fact that Salter’s work is prescriptive, rather than descriptive.  I guess that Gray should be given some credit here - he read at least part of Salter’s book (which most critics obviously have not).  So he does acknowledge that Salter himself specifically states that On Genetic Interests is about “what” and not “why”.  It is about what people should be doing to act adaptively.  It is not an examination of the evolution of altruism, ethnic nepotism or any other “why” hang-ups Salter’s critics tend to obsess about.

A monoracial homeland—Any logic there?

I suspect that the difference between myself and others who frequent this blog is emotional rather than logical.  I just do not feel the need to be among others like myself that most people here seem to feel.  But I respect that feeling.  On my reading of the psychological research, preference for the similar and the familiar is more common than not.  And I do think that the societies the Anglo-Saxons have created have few rivals in general desirability.  Our example is the one that most of the world aspires to and tries to emulate.  Even most Muslims aspire to it as far as I can gather.  They certainly vote with their feet when they flock to our countries and try to get in by hook or by crook.

A spot of ethnography: The Parsees

As any student of anthropology will tell you, we understand our own society better by looking at other societies.  I thought therefore that I might offer a quick sketch of an ethny that most people know little about but which is yet very successful in many ways

Sometimes called “the Jews of India” (though India does have a few real Jews) the Parsees are descendants of Zoroastrian true-believers who fled the Persian empire at the time of its conquest by Muslims about a thousand years ago.  They took refuge in what is now the Indian State of Gujurat and have Gujurati as their native language to this day.  Perhaps because of their typically Iranian energy or their very un-fatalistic religion, they have prospered mightily in India.  They founded India’s steel, nuclear, computer and airline industries and one of their sons (Rajiv Gandhi) even became Prime Minister of India for some time while another (Sam Manekshaw) headed the Indian Army.  Other distinguished Parsees could be mentioned.  Two even sat in the House of Commons as representatives of British constituencies many years ago.  Such achievements for a population of only 90,000 people out of 900 million Indians are truly staggering.  It certainly shows what a small minority can do both to maintain itself and lead the larger society.

The carelessness of Non-European Caucasions with European Caucasian interests

In the latest issue of Newsweek is an essay by Fareed Zakaria concerning the rejection of the EU Constitution by the French and Dutch.  Mr. Zakaria, like many of his ilk, does not seem very pleased when white folks vote in favor of their own interests.  In his essay Zakaria tells us:-

… the most emphatic signal from last week is about Turkey. Turkish membership in Europe has suffered a mortal blow. The most potent arguments on the campaign trail were anti-Turkish, and politicians will take note of that. In two years, the likely leaders of both Germany and France (Angela Merkel and Nicolas Sarkozy) will be staunchly opposed to Turkish membership in the EU.

Of course, what Europe desperately needs is more of all the trends that are producing populist paranoia. It needs more economic reform to survive in a new era of global competition, more young immigrants to sustain its social market and a more strategic relationship with the Muslim world, which would be dramatically enhanced by Turkish membership in the EU.

Of course.  How could I be so foolish not to see that Europe’s interest requires Turkish EU membership ... and plenty more youthful immigrants as well?  And how welcome and courageous is such insight from Zakaria, even as he finishes telling us that the Dutch are in serious trouble with the Muslim immigrants they already have.

The health consequences of race mixing among living organisms could be neutral, beneficial or harmful.  This issue has been difficult to address in humans, but data from random, population-based studies have started coming in, and here we consider the first such dataset.

Salter, strawmen and a box of matches

Here and there one finds some absurd, strawman fallacies of genetic similarity and some absurd, strawman representations of Salter’s work being promoted.  So with this post I am seeking to correct any misunderstandings arising from these.

The genetic interests that a given group has as a group is that genetic information that distinguishes it from other groups.  Genetic information that is found randomly distributed among all humans may be a genetic interest at the human/non-human level (dependent upon whether it is species-distinctive) - but it is not relevant genetic interest for intra-human, inter-population comparisons.

The same principle applies for ANY evaluation of genetic interest.  Since genetic interest is a relative concept, genetic interest at each and any level of comparison is based only on that genetic information that is distinctive between the groups being compared - eg, family vs ethny, ethny vs humanity, humanity vs mammals, etc. Put another way, genetic information found in all groups cannot be a part of a genetic interest of one groups vs another!!!

Threatened by Salterism?  You’re a scientist – fall back on ad hominem.

Given comments by an individual from the anti-science blog GNXP about the “quasi-religious garbage, mystical” aspect of genetic information and genetic continuity, I thought it may be useful to provide the following.

Richard Alexander stated:-

[H]umans like other organism[s] are so evolved that their “interests” are reproductive.  Said differently, the interests of an individual human (i.e., the directions of its striving) are expected to be toward ensuring the indefinite survival of its genes and their copies, whether these are resident in the individual, its descendants, or its collateral relatives.

Does race mixing increase physical attractiveness?

Does race mixing increase the likelihood of physical attractiveness?  Armand Marie Leroi, a developmental biologist at Imperial College, London, seems to think so, and as proof he offers the example of the “world’s most beautiful woman”: Saira Mohan, whose mother is French/Irish and father is Hindoo.

Those smart Asians

As readers of this blog will have noted, there are many on the mainstream right (including some of our own bloggers) that are strong proponents of Asian immigration. They argue that Asian immigration is a strength because it is composed of smart educated individuals who would make for very productive citizens. They would not burden the state but actually boost the numbers of smart productive citizens and would be a net boost to the economy.

A defense of Frank Salter’s defense of us

Frank Salter has given us a new understanding of the relationships of individuals to ethnies and ethnies to each other.  But being the pursuit of the freedom of the individual, liberalism must cast down and, in the end, destroy ethnicity.  Salter, therefore, is useful to those who would oppose this outcome; in the hands of our people the notion of ethnic genetic interests (EGI) would go a long way to awaken our ethny to itself and to its circumstance.  Liberalism cannot allow this and must, if it is to complete its purpose of “freeing” Western Man, falsify Salter’s notion or, failing that, render it morally illegitimate.

David B and GNXP have fallen in line with the attempt to falsify EGI.  Therefore, both from the point of view of resisting this attempt and of disseminating the idea of EGI into public life, it is necessary to intrude once again - and at some length - upon the goodwill and intellectual appetite of MR’s readers.

Don’t know nuffink abaht jeans and quasi-flosophy does me ‘ead in.  But …

Yes, yes, I know.  The Gene War is still raging elsewhere.  But thus far in this extended discussion with GNXPers, the combined forces of MR contributors and commenters have mostly bearded them with the pursuit of the very EGI’s they deny to us.  I want to tilt the discussion towards the purely political motives of the GNXP boys and since I happen to own this political hoosegow I can do it, too!

Now, the formidable David B has very courageously showed-up on our threads.  For that he has my thanks.  But not political asylum.  I’m throwing in a few observations here about the smoothly fashioned but overt and singular political intent in his Opus Salterium at GNXP.

Just taking as an example the piece to which I have linked, David writes: In its primary, everyday sense, we use the word (interest) to designate the wants and needs of individual sentient beings (usually humans, but sometimes other animals). These may be either subjective wants (such as a desire for food or sex) or objective needs, such as survival, but in general we value the latter only as preconditions for the former. Survival is usually in our interest, but not if we are in constant pain, or being kept alive as a senseless vegetable.

Senseless vegetables?  What price EGIs for senseless vegetables?  Or strawmen.  Let’s, instead, put it this way:  In its primary, everyday sense we use the word (interest) to designate the pleasures and advantages people seek.  Obviously, some of these pleasures and advantages hold no implication for our role in Nature.  But others do, or we would not exist at all (a world of liberals, for example, could not exist at all).

So the question, really, is whether these latter pleasures and advantages are of the individual, as David desires to prove, or not.  They’re not.  Post “Out of Africa”, we didn’t evolve as individuals but as the members of an ethnic group.  So the question we should ask David is: why must you number those pleasures and advantages (such as ideals of attractiveness in the opposite sex and all the striving that goes into attaining that) among the sanctities of individualism, rather than among the commonalities of ethny?

The honest answer would be: It’s my politics.  But we don’t hear it.

Up close and proximate

Some supporters of constitutional patriotism (CP) argue that genetic information and genetic interests, particularly ethnic genetic interests, are as much an abstraction as the ideals they themselves espouse - if not more.  Given the choice between genetic information and ideals their loyalty goes unfailingly to the latter.  For the former they care nothing and, in some cases, suggest that other people do likewise while they (covertly?) pursue their own genetic interests.

But are ideals an end in themselves, or a means to an end?  If the latter, what is the end in question?  Are genes really abstractions?  Is genetic information an abstraction?  What happens if you ask to what purpose are the ideals that CPers promote, if we take these people as sincere advocates for “what is best”.

Well, clearly genes are not abstractions, and genetic information is not an abstraction either.  Sure enough, ideas (memes) have real-life consequences.  And what do we mean by “real-life consequences”?  Well, obviously, we are talking about the effects on life and, ultimately, life is about genetic replication.

Other folks believe in Ethnic Nepotism.  We, though, must not!

Non-European Caucasian (NEC) Dr. Mehmet Oz is an eminent surgeon of Turkish ancestry born in the USA.  The following Turkish Times article is of interest, particularly the following quotes from the article:

Dr. Oz seems very proud of his Turkish heritage and promotes his roots whenever he can … Dr. Oz feels that it is very important for Turks who have achieved success in their fields to mentor the next generation. He admits to being challenged in this regard because of lack of time but adds that he always has several young Turkish students or academics working for him in his lab and doing clinical work.
