A small addendum if I may, John - not mine, Margaret Thatcher’s.  It’s a paragraph from page 781 of the The Downing Street Years describing an event from her visit to Warsaw and Gdansk in November 1988:-

After lunch it was suggested that I might like to look around the nearby church of St. Brygida.  To my delighted astonishment, when Mr Walesa and I entered I found the whole church packed with Polish families who rose and sang the Solidarity anthem, “God give us back our free Poland”.  I could not keep the tears from my eyes.  I seemed to have shaken hundreds of hands as I walked around the church.  I gave a short, emotional speech and Lech Walesa spoke too.  As I left there were people in the streets crying with emotion and shouting “thank you, thank you” over and over again.  I returned to Warsaw with greater determination than ever to do battle with the Polish authorities.

The beautiful music, rituals, vestments, sacred objects, etc. appeal to peoples’ senses. I don’t blame stiff, cold, and harsh (double predestination) Presbyterians being attracted to joyful and sensuous Catholicism.

Gee, maybe Maggie might have thought of giving back the gold the UK charged the Polish gov. in exile for the privilege of saving England’s butt in the Battle of Britain.

England only fought the BoB because of some misguided sense of loyalty to a licentious, genetically distant Poland.

Different regional populations from Poland were studied in order to assess the genetic heterogeneity within Poland, investigate the genetic relationships with other European populations and provide a population-specific reference database for anthropological and forensic studies. Nine Y-chromosomal microsatellites were analysed in a total of 919 unrelated males from six regions of Poland and in 1,273 male individuals from nine other European populations. AMOVA revealed that all of the molecular variation in the Polish dataset is due to variation within populations, and no variation was detected among populations of different regions of Poland. However, in the non-Polish European dataset 9.3% ( P<0.0001) of the total variation was due to differences among populations. Consequently, differences in R(ST)-values between all possible pairs of Polish populations were not statistically significant, whereas significant differences were observed in nearly all comparisons of Polish and non-Polish European populations. Phylogenetic analyses demonstrated tight clustering of Polish populations separated from non-Polish groups. Population clustering based on Y-STR haplotypes generally correlates well with the geography and history of the region. Thus, our data are consistent with the assumption of homogeneity of present-day paternal lineages within Poland and their distinctiveness from other parts of Europe, at least in respect to their Y-STR haplotypes. Population samples from Germany and Russia also showed similarities to Polish populations, with relatively small RST-values on pairwise comparisons (0.0176-0.097). It is noteworthy that all but one of the comparisons between the six Polish populations and the Russians revealed statistically non-significant differences (0.05 0.001). These genetic similarities are most probably a result of the common Slavic origin. On the other hand, small genetic distances between all of the Polish-German population pairs were statistically significant (P<0.0001), which might reflect the different background of Slavic-speaking and German-speaking populations. The significant differences revealed between Polish and German samples are especially striking, since the two populations have had close contact during the last millennium and both have inhabited the territory of present-day Poland. This demonstrates a continuous lack of admixture between Germans and Poles, most probably for social, religious and cultural reasons. Genetic difference between Germans and Poles have been reported previously, based on a 1-bp deletion at the Y-chromosomal marker M17 (haplotype Eu19; Semino et al. 2000), which has a high frequency in Poles (56%) but a much lower frequency in Germans (6%). However, other studies, using the Y-SNP marker SRY-1532b (synonym SRY 10831b, haplogroup 3), which characterises basically the same Y chromosome lineage (Tyler-Smith 1999; Wheale et al. 2001; The Y Chromosome Consortium 2002), have found a much higher frequency of ~30% in larger samples from Germany (M. Kayser, unpublished data; Rosser et al. 2000; Zerjal et al. 1999), which is still only about half the frequency in Poland.

Correct. The always sabre-rattling and jingoistic Poles (see their new and dwarfish and ludicrous President Kaczynski who manages to both insult and challenge Russian AND Germany...deja vu all over again?) didn’t have any qualms about taking a big bite out of Teschen. Secondly, in ‘68 the Polish forces were the first ones to invade Czechoslovakia to bring that recalcitrant nation back into the communist brotherhood. Results? The Czechs truly despise Poles today like no one else in Europe - with the possible exception of Germans (where the Pole carries the unfortunate image of a lazy drunk and car thief).

Gee, on someone else’s website I read that the Slavs had the rep of beating up the Germans in their own bars.

Did not Churchill say something about Germans being either at your throat or at your feet?

Not that an ubermensch like Freddy Brown is scared.  I bet a race warrior like himself is at the forefront of all the brawls to make Deutschland a slav free zone.

These are facts. There was even a commercial in Germany a while ago advertizing Poland as a vacation destination, the ad read: “Come and visit Poland, your car is already there!”

Additionally, you still see on occasion store sign that read: “Poles, do not steal!”

There’s little doubt that Poles are intensely disliked in Germany...however, that doesn’t stop from flooding the country in search of a buck.

Nice piece, JJR. 

Friedrich, i have no clue as to what happens in Germany, but this post is about the Polish in Australia. If they’re known as thieves there, maybe thats why the blue-eyed-devil Poles fit so well into White Australia, convict heritage and all.

It may very well apply in Europe, but it is hard to convince people that blonde haired surfers are alien because they have ‘ski’ on the ends of their surnames here. Australia continues to see alot of Euro-immigrant groups as ‘other’, but the Poles aren’t one of them. It would require an anti-instinctive mindset, like the one Nietzsche constantly ridiculed a number of northern lands for.

I have a German surname BTW, and if the fatherland wants to be free of non-Germans(white or otherwise), it has a historical right i suppose. I am free of anti-NS hysteria or phoney moral outrage and have met NPD reps at a dinner here and not had a single disagreement with them. But again, this post is about Australia and White Australia comes with traces of Polish blood.

I think Herr Braun should have a drink and calm down.  Really, a German lecturing other races about fiendish militarism!  Another thing, if the Czechs hate anybody its Germans, ask a Sudetenlander. 

I’ve been to Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.  I have to agree with Churchill, if a German has any authority over you they can be overbearing and arrogant, but if you assert yourself they can be utterly servile.  As a red blooded American I found both modes of behavior despicable.  I did hear a lot of stories about Polish kids coming into German stores to shop lift.  They probably came from the poor countryside near the German border, and that place was poor.  The city Poles I found to be quite good natured and educated.  But the big surprise was to see children.  In Berlin and Dresden there were almost no children, there were more dogs than children.  Poland had cute little blond kids running everywhere with everyone smiling at them.  Plus, the churches were full, somthing I did not see in Germany or the Czech Republic.  Truly a bastion of Western civilization.

“Heroic Poles who saved Englands butts! Pity thet weren’t heroic enough to save their own butts back in the motherland. The Poles engineered WWII with their allies England and France. The Polish newspapers of the time are rife with Germanophobic venom and the fascist government of Poland made several well know announcements of their aggressive intentions to a German nation they foolishly thought was still weak from defeat and years of imposed arms limitations. The Poles, who had defeated the Red Army in 1920 were convinced that their new anti-tank rifles would dispose of German armour and that the French, recognized as the most militarily powerful nation on earth at the time, would crush the Wermacht in the west. Once Poland had secured its secret alliance with the French and Brits they began a campaign of terror aginst their ethnic German population in order to provoke war. They got it. Sepp Dietrich’s SS bisected their country in a mere two weeks. The closest the Poles got to heroism was disembowling German children in Bromberg.
