Pesky!
Hilarious! “Gene Expression” have up a post on Jared Diamond the biologist who claims that race is a myth and that there is no genetic difference between the Western European whites who created the modern world and anybody else. All those “dead white males” did so well purely by accident, apparently. The “Gene Expression” post however reprints one of Diamond’s scientific papers from the days before he had hopped onto the politically correct bandwagon—a paper in which Diamond shows important inherited differences between the races! That blogospheric fact-checking sure is pesky for frauds!

Godless at his best. A superb piece of detection work. I think though, John, that “Yoruban Diamonds” might have been a better title for this post. Or indeed “Balls to geography.”
Diamond’s Guns, Germs & Steel thesis [from page 25]:
Authors are regularly asked by journalists to summarize a long book in one sentence. For this book, here is such a sentence: ‘History followed different courses for different peoples because of differences among peoples’ environments, not because of biological differences among peoples themselves.”
The rather obvious hole in this thesis: environmental differences produce biological differences.
Humans migrated out of Africa many thousands of years before the advent of agriculture 13,000 years ago (to use Diamond’s date). Thus, if the first migration of homo sapiens out of Africa occurred roughly 110,000 years ago (or more recently, as proposed by Sarich & Miele), humans had several thousand generations in which to adapt to new and different environments, even before the advent of agriculture, which accelerated changes in population size, social organization, and technology. And thereafter, humans had another 500 generations to adapt to the continually changing environment that they themselves were changing. Although environmental differences started this “feedback loop” (as Rushton terms it), biological differences arose long before the historical events Diamond discusses.
Diamond’s thesis is vapid. But why are so many so gleeful to find that Diamond has taken a prior inconsistent position?
