Ross down, Brand out: the revenge of the Daily Mail reader

Posted by Guessedworker on Friday, 31 October 2008 00:15.

The British press has been full of the Affair of Andrew Sachs’ answer-phone.  A full transcript of the offending Radio Two and web broadcast of October 16th is here.

The details of the case and the sticky ends and financial pain of the wrongdoers are very tiresome.  I’m more interested in the sociological significance of a prank call gone disastrously wrong that leads to an amazing 30,000 people registering complaints with the BBC, steals the headlines away from global financial meltdown, and forces top BBC management into a five-hour emergency damage-control meeting.

To find out what’s going on here one has to look back to the Thatcher years, and the change to broadcast comedy that was wrought by a new generation of producers, writers and comics.  This was Alternative Comedy.  What had began as stand-up for a young and educated, right-on audience that, naturally enough, had no respect for the established way of doing things was soon brought into the mainstream of broadcasting.

The sheeple laughed at their little glowing tubes just the same.  All at once it was funny to see broken social taboos, and cool to deride the Thatcher government.  It had to be funny and cool because lots of people said it was.  So there.

Along the way the sheeple got to laugh at lots of things they never knew were worth laughing at before.  Men’s backsides, especially, but also any hitherto unspeakable bodily functions suddenly became riotously funny.  The sheeple seemed to understood that this was a humour, if one can call it that, predicated on racial and sexual equality.  They did not demurr.  It wouldn’t be cool.  The long tradition of the robust comedy characteristic of the British, and so loved by the working man, was being swept aside, and there was nobody around to prevent it.

So, Alternative Comedy’s proponents were, in their odd little world, revolutionaries, even those who were simply swept up in the outrageous audacity of it all.  These were the very first stirrings of political correctness this side of the Atlantic.  Its force and potency was not understood, nor its singular function of the ruthless dismantling of organic society.

Traditional comedy routines of the sort that affectionately lampooned the fair sex, the not-so-fair mother-in-law, and those distinctly dusky foreigners were grounded in the subtle concessions which are part of the conversation and life of an organic people.  This comedy does not oppress, but Alternative Comedy held that it did.  As we have seen in so many way since, the protection of a supposedly offended and oppressed minority was used for the purpose of damaging the life of Britain’s true people.  In the process the little revolutionaries created a medium that, in its relationship to the audience, ceased to be expressive and became demogagic, laying down a value system that only the revolutionaries believed in.  Traditional comedy was dressed up as something out of time and to be despised.  Careers were destroyed.  Old hands like Bernard Manning and Frank Carson were sidelined to northern working men’s club.  The “correct” version of comedy became the only version.  And why not?  The sheeple didn’t know any different, and still laughed when the punch line came.

But there was a price.  When you detach from the organic you are left only with artifice ... something thin and propositional that can’t hold the component parts together.  A comedia sanguis has a rock to which it can safely moor.  Take the rock away and the inevitable result is the shifty and off-putting stand-up routine of Ben Elton.  The generation of funny guys that followed Elton have drifted on the tide towards celebrity and huge wealth - Jonathan Ross has a salary package from the BBC of £18 million a year.  But their material has also drifted, downward into a wonderfully entropic spiral of obscenity, cruelty, bullying and endless self-regard.  Anything to get a laugh in postmodernity.

How could it end otherwise?

The good news is that an awful lot of people are extremely tired of this charade.  They may read the right-wing papers, and not understand the issue in its political terms.  But they know a bad taste when they are left with one, and the 1980s revolution in comedy has come to exactly that.

At bottom, the battle is still between the world of blood ties, love and human meaning, and the world of the deracinated, decultured, insecure MultiCult we are told is our only possible future.  We tend to think that it is being lost - rather easily, in fact.  But every now and again a petty comedy like this one arises, and people instinctively sense what their loves and interests really are.

You gotta laugh.

Ross’s package is £18m for a three year contract. So the poor dear has to struggle by on a paltry £6m a year.

Regarding the link to Robert Lindsay’s site posted above by IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII:  I agree Obama looks more like Frank Marshall Davis than the Kenyan — both Obama and Davis have sort of a horseface, which the Kenyan doesn’t have at all.  No chance of getting Obama’s DNA for comparison to Davis’ children, obviously.

Oops, I take that back — Obama could’ve gotten that facial shape from his mother, who had it a little.

Excellent take on the Wossy saga GW.

I suggest it goes back much further than Thatcher, remember a programme in the early’60 called That Was the Week That Was?  Otherwise known as TW3.

David Frost, oops, sorry - Sir David Frost was the anchorman of TW3 in those days. the rest were

David Frost
Millicent Martin
Bernard Levin
Lance Percival
Roy Kinnear
William Rushton
Timothy Birdsall
John Wells
Kenneth Cope
David Kernan
Al Mancini
John Bird
Eleanor Bron
Roy Hudd

(What would an old man’s memory do without Wikipedia?)  It is worth noting that most of thes people went on to become famous (celebrities) in their own right - must tell us something.

To cut to the chase, (with hindsight) there is no doubt in my mind that that TW3 was designed specifically to finish off the last remnants of the old ruling order, their job was to ridicule, vilify, take the urine out of the ruling establishment, it was cruel, it was savage, it was crass and relentless and do yo know what?  I was an avid fan of this programme, along with the rest of the nation I curled up with laughter on my sofa - it was hilarious.  This was at the commencement of the ‘60’s, this was Britain’s opening salvo of the new order.  (counter culture)

Of course, like the rest of the nation I was (as a naive young man) oblivious to the wider significance of what was going on, suffice to say that I now see that even then, dark forces were at work hell bent on changing the shape and people of Britain.

Throughout my life, the BBC has been at the forefront of engineering a new Britain, they have tirelessly pushed back the bouderies of decency and taste to what now has become accepted norms, what was universally rejected in everyday life as loutish, crude, foul and uncivil, is now unthinkingly accepted as normal behaviour - thank you BBC. (this programme contains strong language)

The coming of alternative comedy was the natural extension of Frost and his mates, the rest, as they say, is history.

The protest from below has demonstrated that sheer numbers can overturn (what Littlejohn of the Mail) refers to as elite metropolitan hubris) which rules Britain today.  Just imagine what millions could achieve if we raised hell about race replacement - it could be finish it off in the twinkling of an eye.

The BBC is Britain’s mortal enemy, it will continue to cheer lead the changing face of Britain, I wonder if the British people will ever - get it?

Great piece GW.

Benny Hill would not have a TV show these days because he was not trying to get at the foundational pillars of society and topple them.  These days only what does that is allowed on TV.

When TW3 was first broadcast it ushered in the termination of, inter alia, social deference in UK and for those of us who had been beneficiaries of such time-honoured attitudes it came as something of a culture shock. As usual, Jews were in the vanguard of social ‘improvement’ with much, but by no means all, of TW3’s iconoclastic material penned by people like Herbert Kretzmer, Gerald Kaufman and Bernard Levin. it is certainly true to say that, post TW3, politics, hitherto too stultifyingly boring to be considered Saturday evening prime time television, was never the same again.

There was a thread on Monday (I think) at the Guardian site on the Ross/Brand affair and it was running at least 20 to 1 against the pair. Of course each poster made a point of prefacing each remark with “I hate the Daily Mail as much as the next guy… but”. Nevertheless it seems some on the Left are also fed up with this stuff. They might change their minds though if they think the controversy goes to far as the Left, unlike our side, can sense a threat well in advance.

On Bernard Manning, when he died last year I was stunned to read in the British press that he was part Jewish.

You should do a post about this: the Jew World Order is going full steam ahead in Iraq (a testing ground) where every single Iraqi male over the age of 16 are having biometric data forcibly taken from them - they are having their fingerprints taken and iris scanned in an effort to “clamp down on the insurgency” and under the guise of carrying out a census - truly sickening.

“U.S. takes census in Iraq”

U.S. soldiers are doing what no one’s done in Iraq for many years—they’re taking a census. They’re also collecting fingerprints and iris scans—something you wouldn’t see in a census done in the U.S. The World’s Quil Lawrence has the story.

Does Peter Hitchens of the Mail On Sunday read MR…?

“It is more than 40 years since the Corporation appointed themselves the immoral conscience of the nation, under the destructive genius of Sir Hugh Carleton Greene. While claiming absurdly to be impartial, they sided with every force and movement that set out to wreck and ruin restraint, good taste and modesty. This started with a programme called That Was The Week That Was, though. Reduced to slurping adulation by the Barack Obama of the day, John F. Kennedy, it savaged conservative politicians and institutions wherever it could find them.”

I well remember back in the 80’s an episode of “Not The Nine O’ Clock News”( which was another thinly-disguised bit of PC brainwashing) in which a police Inspector was berating a ‘racist” policeman for continually arresting a black man on trumped up charges. The interesting thing about this was that when the Inspector said the black man’s name “Mr Winston Ombongo” I think it was, the audience laughed at this outlandish name but, of course, they weren’t supposed to. It was clear that, at that time, both writers and audience were, as it were, still feeling their way in the new dispensation of PC brainwashing comedy. Anyone else remember this.?

I see from this:-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZoSqPxsNtU

... that it was Mr Winston Kodogo of 55 Mercer Road.

Yes, I take the point that the antecedents of Alternative Comedy were there in the political satire of TW3, the surreal anarchy of Monty Python and the more conventional narratives of Not The 9 O’Clock News.  But Alternative Comedy itself was an enacted revolution of the modern kind, delegitimising the moral and cultural basis of what was there before and supplanting it as the only “correct” form.  The entire basis of what could be considered funny was replaced.

Anyway, I always thought Jimmy Connolly was a lucky bastard.

Bill - “The BBC is Britain’s mortal enemy, it will continue to cheer lead the changing face of Britain, I wonder if the British people will ever - get it?”

I think many sense it. I was reading an argument on digitalspy between those who didn’t like that the BBC had cast a black woman to play Guinevere in their drama Merlin, and those who believe people who object to colourblind casting were racists. My impression was that right-thinking and feeling people just need better arguments at their disposal.

One good argument against colourblind casting in English historical or mythological dramas that didn’t rely on believability or jokes would probably win that argument immediately in the eyes of most British people.

But how do they hear that argument, unless they come to a web-site like this?  It’ll be censored out of everywhere else, certainly out of all broadcast media. Our populations are in media lockdown.  What they don’t want the people to hear is forbidden to say.

A better sketch was the of the grassroots Tory addressing the party conference. On the subject of immigration:

“They’re black, of course. But some of them can do jobs nearly as well as white people”

“A lot of immigrants are Inidan and Pakistani for instance. And I like curry, I do. But now that we’ve got the recipes, is there really any need for them to stay?”

I remember my father laughing like a drain (for the ‘wrong’ reasons of course).

If only that sketch was a true representation the Thatcher years.

GW, I think you may mean ‘Billy’ Connolly and, if so, you are correct in the luck aspect. He, thanks to his discovery by Michael Parkinson, rode the fashion wave of ‘observational’ comedy and generally lowered the televisual tone through the use of puerile, Jew-aping, scatological references.

Agreed on those problems. You can’t get people from there to here in a split second, especially under current circumstances. But it can still happen in small stages of realisation, and you can arm people who are willing to stick their necks out with some basics in the meantime, so they can win the arguments publicly and the arguments can gain some momentum.

(Obviously if you have to use an argument citing Jewish influence then many more difficulties will arise.)

The left uses set piece arguments and teaches them to followers and non-followers alike, (now, they have power too but nonetheless these tactics work – as I’m sure you are well aware of). Anyway, the example I gave was of a load of twits mixed with smug liberals and some minority racialists against a small lot of beleaguered British people trying to be civil and make their objections ‘understood’ in a particularly mild and useless manner but getting abused as racists.

Happens all the effing time.

Here and here, for starters.

You might also find the UN Declaration of Rights of Indigeneous Peoples, Article 8, of interest, and also the Convention for the Punishment and Prevention of Genocide, Article 2, I think.

Monty Python - Terry Jones seems to exhibit a great deal of anti-white, self hatred. He has a particular beef about the crusades. Violent Christians oppressing those poor peace loving Muslims.
