and each year more ornate: the phoenix dies
folding its feathers in fire, rehatching from
the unquenchable egg of itself, gaudier
each time, with longer feathers --
now after diapause through the green fuse
the black root sets off white floral jets
anaglyphic in her stainless fingers
as she plucks them, moly in chrome
a more than chromatic song folded and stretched
from last year’s, parapasserine ultracanary
uncaged now at last in the shade of herself
cast without rage in the undying light
nothing sparing or saving for next time.

Well, that is certainly the most beautiful post to appear on our page. Can a creature of Great Nature be called an automaton? And I thought the only mechanicity was Man’s.
