Category: Blogs & BloggingJason Soon a Commo sympathizerDear me! It seems that I am not alone in finding Jason Soon’s thinking to be very dubious. Another Australian blogger notes Soon’s sympathy for the Bolshevik revolution (which ousted post-Tsarist DEMOCRATS) with great contempt. Perhaps I could also note that Soon’s falling-out with the Australian Labor Party was because he saw it as “too conservative” Posted by jonjayray on Saturday, January 15, 2005 at 05:25 PM in Blogs & Blogging
New blog announcementCan you imagine a blog that would be less interesting than a blog about the Bible written by an atheist? Sounds about as irrelevant and stupid as you could get, right? I guess it is. But for my sins I have just started such a blog. What happened was that I put up on Dissecting Leftism a post about The Holy Trinity. I have a fair bit of knowledge of theology that is left over from my dim distant past as a Christian (during my teens over 40 years ago). And I used that knowledge to say why I thought the trinity doctrine was a load of old cobblers. Rather to my surprise, however, that post attracted a lot of emails and I came to rather regret raising the matter as I think that what I wrote did disturb a lot of good Christian people whom I really had no wish to disturb. Nonetheless, lots of people obviously wanted to debate the matter with me so how should I handle that? At the risk of satirizing myself, I decided that I should start another blog for discussing purely Biblical matters. I obviously don’t expect a great readership but if anybody is interested in discussing the implications of central Bible texts with an atheist, it is there. Unlike most atheists, I do treat the Bible texts with great respect. I would however advise readers NOT to visit unless they are prepared to risk exposure to possibly threatening unorthodox views. So see “A scripture blog”. I already have enough up to generate a few thoughts, I hope, and I intend to add more daily. Posted by jonjayray on Monday, January 10, 2005 at 06:34 AM in Blogs & Blogging
More Jason Soon logicOh dear! Life does have its funny side. We have been blessed with another example of Jason Soon logic. He left a comment on this blog that condemns me for “sharing” a blog with “Nazis”. That comment has so many amusing sides to it that it is hard to know where to start. But try this: I share my house with three very dark-skinned people (very civilized young men from India). Does that mean that I am dark-skinned too? According to Jason Soon logic we are the same as people we “share” things with so I guess I must be. In fact I “share” my surname with lots of Indians (Bengalis in particular) so I guess that clinches it! There is a photo of me here for anyone who is actually curious. Superb illogicBelow is a copy of a post that I have just put up on Dissecting Leftism: As I have noted previously, I sometimes put up posts on a new blog called Majority Rights. I think the cause concerned is an important one. Why should minorities have rights—including the right to celebrate their own culture—when the politically-correct crowd are frantically trying to deny the same rights to the majority? They are even trying (often successfully) to deny us the right to mention Christmas, for goodness sake! The blog concerned is however a group blog with a fair range of contributors and some are a bit nutty by most people’s standards—with the inevitable deep suspicion of Jews occasionally popping up. I am however one of the most pro-Israel bloggers there is so it is perfectly clear that I myself am not of that ilk. In fact, I am so outspoken on the matters concerned that I get a lot of flak in the comments section from the more paranoid types who read the blog. So, knowing all that, note the following comment posted by Jason Soon:

“Nuts r us”?I see that this blog has been described by a blogger I generally agree with as “Nuts r us”. I myself think there is no possible reasonable objection to majorities having the same rights as minorities nor can I see why minorities can celebrate their culture while majorities cannot. So none of that deserves the “Nuts r us” epithet. So I think it is the antisemitic tendency of some of the postings and comments here that has attracted the opprobrium. I myself see Jews as having both strengths and weaknesses just like everybody else and, consonant with that, I am both one of the most consistently pro-Israel bloggers there is while also noting some foolish tendencies among Jews. Jerusher! Any group where over two thirds of its members voted for “Mr. Phony” John Kerry has a LOT to be criticized for! But I absolutely reject ALL conspiracy theories—including the now-recrudescent Jewish conspiracy theories—as a sign that the people believing such theories don’t understand what is going on. Such theories are simple theories for simple minds—which is why it is the intellectually lazy Left who are the major advocates of such theories. If this blog is to gain much respect, I think the conspiracy theorists who frequent it had better look more deeply into how things really work. A new blog for the new yearA HAPPY AND CAPITALISTIC NEW YEAR TO ALL MY READERS
I am sure that I will get the nickname of the “insane blogger” soon. Yes. I have just started ANOTHER blog. How better to start the New Year? This one is intended to have only a limited lifespan, however. Its purpose is to put on display all the quotes from Marx and Engels that Marxists hope you never find out about. It is truly astonishing what those guys really believed. They had more in common with Hitler than with anyone else. The most recent post shows that Marx and Hitler agreed about the Jews. See here. I will post to the blog only as interesting material for it becomes available to me but Dirk’s file gives me plenty to start with. I hope to add new quotes every day for quite a while. Tuesday roundupIn recognition of the fact that I post too much for many readers to keep up with, I once again list what I think are the best posts on my various blogs over the last week. Political Correctness Watch lists some of the recent attacks on Christmas. Greenie Watch lists some of the low points of the big global warming confab in Buenos Aires. Gun Watch notes a case of free speech about guns being suppressed at a university. Socialized Medicine lists big problems with Canada’s “free” health care Education Watch notes that the Dutch too are now fleeing from “black” inner-city schools. Leftists as Elitists says that contempt for the ordinary person underlies the desire to keep retirement funding in government hands. Blogs Left and RightFun! Thanks to Arthur Chrenkoff, I have just learned that some loony Leftist has put up a site called “Dissecting Rightism”. It is a deliberate spoof of my “Dissecting Leftism” site. As Arthur said to me: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The author has even gone to the trouble of copying my template—which must have been a little bit of work. The “View Source” command gets you only so far and I don’t think Pyra now circulate the original template on which mine was based. Anyhow, his work has just got him a link from me, though I doubt that any of my readers will log on more than once. The author of the site calls himself “Noel Chrotsky”, which seems to be a reference to two very nasty Leftist hate-merchants—Noam Chomsky and Leon Trotsky. I suspect that the author must be Australian. My site is a prominent one by Australian standards but is very small beer in any international comparison. I think an American Leftist would have spoofed (say) Powerline or LGF —though I see that LGF does already have a Watch site. Lawrence AusterI rarely comment on arguments put forward by my fellow conservatives, but I am going to make a small exception today to say a few words about the ideas of Lawrence Auster, a traditionalist Jewish writer who thinks that almost nobody these days is conservative enough. He has just put up on Frontpage an excellent article on the antiwar RIGHT that I fully agree with and recommend. He also has an excellent article here that explains why American Jews are so overwhelmingly Left-wing. He says that they are actually AFRAID of American Protestant Christians, who are—as Auster points out—in fact the very best friends that Israel and the Jews have. Auster does not say so but I think the Jews concerned can be forgiven their paranoia. It is a pity that they are not more up to date but Christians (including Protestants such as Calvin and Luther) DID persecute them for a very long time. Roundup of my other blogsFrom the emails I receive, many people get quite a lot out of my blogs. Since I have seven regular blogs at the moment, however, it seems obvious to me that very few of my readers would read them all. So I thought it might be useful if I were to highlight what I thought were the most interesting posts on each of them once a week. That way everyone who reads this blog will get some idea what is on all of them. So here goes: On Dissecting Leftism, I discuss America’s most offensive four-letter word. On Leftists as Elitists, I discuss the Hollywood elite. On Political Correctness Watch, I note that winners are now frowned on in Canadian school sports. On Greenie Watch I note that global warming is now said to be racist(!). On Socialized Medicine, I note that drug price-controls are bad for your health. On Education Watch, I note that educational attainments went up in Florida schools when social promotion was ended. Gun Watch has some pithy sayings about the usefulness of guns. Some fun with a leftist ninnyI am indebted to the mini-Chomsky himself, the great Brian Leiter, for a recommendation of a long article by Orcinus about the probability of America “going Fascist”. Seeing Hitler was a socialist and Mussolini was a Marxist, you might think Orcinus is worried about arrogant trends in the Democratic party but, no, it is the GOP that he thinks is likely to “go Fascist”. The Leftist origins of Fascism don’t get a mention, in fact, so one knows immediately that the article will be low on scholarship. And its chief scholarly source for the nature of Fascism is in fact R.O. Paxton, the “historian” (much lauded in the N.Y. Times, of course) who said Hitler was an “antisocialist”—when the very name of Hitler’s political party was (translated) “The National Socialist German Worker’s Party”! I think I have already at this early stage said enough about the article concerned to dismiss it for the claptrap it is but I cannot resist having a bit more fun with it.
