The Minute Man Project

Jim Gilchrist, a retired accountant and Vietnam veteran, is organizing a citizen’s posse to patrol the Arizona border with Mexico. The U.S. Border Patrol says 5000 illegals enter daily. Currently, 234 Americans from 36 states have joined the posse.  By implementation of night vision, aircraft, and foot patrols the group plans to pinpoint invader’s location with GPS and then report them to the U.S. Border Patrol.

I just completed reading On Genetic Interests by Frank Salter, 2003. I do not intend to review this book—to see reviews just do an Internet search on <"on genetic interests" Salter>

—and you will find excellent reviews.

“The book greatly expands the scope of [William Hamilton’s] ‘kin selection’ by making ethnies [or races] in control of territory the central arena of ‘selfish [genes]’ in a modern world of mass immigration (Pierre van den Berghe).”

Also, “Frank Salter argues in his new book that all humans have a vital interest in genetic continuity—The ethnic component of which he quantifies for the first time—that is threatened by mass migration. Salter advocates non-aggressive ‘universal nationalism’ as part of a balanced ‘fitness portfolio’ that includes investments in three levels of genetic interests—family, ethny, and the species as a whole. The synthesis is persuasive, the policy formulations provocative (Irenaus Eibl-Eibesfedt).”

An email from an “Hispanic”

A response I received to my post expressing confidence in Hispanic genetic potential:  She points out the high achievements of many of those like her.  With a serious effort at immigration control, the USA could have a lot more like her and a lot less of the criminal class

“My name is Erica and I am Hispanic with Mexican ancestors. I call myself a Mexican-American. I get criticized by other Hispanics and I am sure that many people would consider me in some way un-Amercian. I call myself Mexican-American because when people look at me they are confused, I am fair skinned and according to my students, “I talk like a white person.”

I am sending this e-mail in response to the article posted on your website regarding Mexican IQs. Well, I have never been tested as an adult, but as a child I was put in the gifted and talented programs at school, as were many of my Mexican- American friends. My boyfriend, who is also Hispanic, as a child in Wisconsin (a very white, Anglo area of our country) was also enrolled in gifted and talented programs along with his siblings. I was a teacher for 8 years, making a meager living, and I dedicated myself to raising other people’s children (some white). Now, I am a law student at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. My mother and father were both teachers with the Texas public schools. My father’s mother was a teacher. I just wanted to let you know about a few Hispanic people who have Mexican ancestors. Perhaps now that you know of a few, you can state with confidence that just because a person has a certain heritage does not mean that person has a low IQ. It is a fact that in Texas there are many “Mexican” teachers, lawyers, doctors (my first cousin is a doctor in Indiana, specializing in kidney transplants), judges, and government employees. Also, recall that President Bush, whom I voted for, has nominated, for the US Attorney General, a “Mexican” from Texas, Alberto Gonzales”

A tale of two Elizabeths

To be simultaneously Queen of the Britons and Head of the Commonwealth when the Commonwealth has come to Britain is a schizophrenic occupation.  Evidently, though, for the Sufferer it is made less onerous by the incapacity to see any conflict therein.  One side of the divide is, after all, cast down into the mud.  It hates, or so they say.  The other is graced by expedience and favoured by the conviction that liberal sanctimony is the measure of all decent men.  Much of the expedience, never forget, consists in the sure knowledge that the latter choice will assist the corporate survival of the Monarchy itself.

That Hispanic IQ again

Illegal Hispanic immigration into the USA has undoubtedly brought troubles in its wake—particularly in recent years.  There is a high level of criminality in the resultant population and a high level of almost every social pathology you can name.  See here and here for background.  Most conservatives attribute the troubles with the illegal immigrant population to the way they have been mollycoddled and allowed to get away with anything by the American Left.  If there is no pressure to be law-abiding, why should the immigrants be law-abiding?  And I heartily agree with that analysis.  I think it is mainstream America that has created most of the immigrant problem by bowing down to the unending demands for “tolerance” from the American Left.

Sikh ye first the playwright, then the actor-manager

“The plan I came up with was to invite theatres across the country to read the play and discuss it afterwards, to have a debate so there was more understanding about the whole issue.  I was proceeding with these plans until last night, when I received a request from the author.”

Neal Foster, actor-manager, Birmingham Stage Company.

That request from Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti, the author of the play, Bezhti, was made from hiding because of death threats against her by fellow Sikhs.  They, fearing that Neal Foster’s defence of liberal values might result again in their religious sensibilities being offended, then called him on the phone.

“They said I would be shot if I continued with plans to stage the play,” he said. “I have taken them seriously.”

Yet more to celebrate

And the question left behind amid the bricks and broken glass:  Will a longer exposure of Sikhs to British law and the British way of doing things make the slightest difference to the way they do things?

Naturally, the issue is being spoken of purely as one of free expression, thus proving that we do not possess the freedom of expression requisite to do full justice to it.

Immigration and culture

In my previous post on immigration, I mentioned culture only obliquely.  I understand that this is seen as a major omission.  I am in fact broadly sympathetic to the view that Protestant culture has created the modern world as we know it and I certainly think that the Christian influence generally has made the world much more humane than it otherwise would be.  I am a keen student of history so know full well how inhumane even the great civilizations of antiquity were.

Immigration and conservatism

One of the great divides between Left and Right in the 20th century was over human nature.  In their zeal to control everything, Leftists claimed that there was no such thing and that a “new Soviet man” could be created by education and by altering the material circumstances in which people lived.  Conservatives however recognized that man did indeed have a “fallen” (or selfish) inborn nature and that this was a major constraint on which policies would succeed.

Keith Windschuttle versus Alexander the Great

Keith Windschuttle is at it again. Not content to be merely the bad boy of Australian frontier history, this time he is going to earn the ire of Australia’s multiculturalists by defending the legacy of the White Australia Policy (WAP).

Speaking of immigration restrictions, I have found the work of two US libertarian theorists Hans Herman Hoppe (see here and here) and Murray Rothbard (see here) quite illuminating here, even if their libertarian theory seems a bit pie-in-the-sky at the moment. Still it does provide some useful thought experiments.

It seems to me that the rival ideas here reflect essentially two views of human nature and political community. On one side are the ‘universalists’ who acknowledge no legitimate human political entity other than the individual or ‘humanity’ and on the other side are the ‘tribalists’ who see as innate the human desire to club together into distinct (but usually dynamically evolving) intermediate associations. Some tribalists may praise these associations (“tribal idealists”) others merely warn that they are ignored at one’s peril (“tribal realists”).
