Not with much, in my case. I passed up the opportunity to read and inwardly digest all the usual fayre and the usual Blair. But I did stop to read news of the latest victim of the Boer genocide: not an Afrikaner farmer this time but the well-known historian and hotelier David Rattray.
His killing is also reported by the Telegraph. But it is the thread to that first link - the Mail on Sunday article - that caught my attention. As a sample of opinion it is small. But it contains the unmistakable melancholy of one who has had all his foolish illusions chased out of the door and the old, hard lessons hammered home at the highest of costs - loss of sovereignty, loss of homeland, loss of life:-
Unfortunately this is our way of life in South Africa now - the politicians are not concerned that over 2000 farmers have been murdered, nor does 20 to 30,000 murders a year phase them at all - Mbeki and our Police Commissioner Selebi have stated publicly that the situation is ‘nothing to fuss about’ and our Minister of Safety and Security has publicly stated that rather than whinge we should ‘leave the country’.
- R.Mcgregor, JHB, South Africa
Sadly his murder is one of many taking place here as violent crime in South Africa spirals out of control. We all live in fear of such attacks and yet President Mbeki stated last week that “crime is not out of control”.
- Jean Collen, Johannesburg, South Africa
This poor man is but one of hundreds who have been murdered in recent years in SA. It’s strange how it rarely comes to the attention if the British press.
- Malcolm, Herne Hill London
We lived in South Africa for nearly 30 years and love the country but returned to the UK when our eldest son narrowly escaped being murdered for his motor car. Having been back in the UK now for nearly 10 years we feel our lives are just as much at risk here. Sad to say the whole world has become a very violent place.
- Maeve Hopkins, Wales
That’s South Africa for you. It only gets worse, will it ever get better? No not with the government we have there. A shame though, hence alot of South Africans come to the UK for safety.
- Anite, Herts - Ex South African
Having experience over many years of life in south africa, I find it so saddening that those who help and respect black Africans are so often caught up in the terrible climate of killings - usually for money and goods, but sometimes just for revenge.
- Barbara, London, UK
This is just another senseless murder to add to our appalling crime statistics, and our government tells us that crime isn’t out of control!
- Eddie Keys, Johannesburg, South Africa
One is past being surprised that “men” invade white homes in rainbow-land and take their murderous, their rapine revenge ... along with whatever useless gewgaws they can steal. One is past being surprised because far outside SA, despite the liberal Establishment’s best obfuscatory efforts, we too have had to grow accustomed to black violence. The constant drip-feed of murder reports has taught us to be shrewd judges of the mental weakness and fatal aggressivity that mark the black gang killer, the wildly violent burglar, the knife-frenzied mugger. Even when racial details of the killers are left mysteriously vague we are very rarely wrong.
In broader terms, the post-Empire generations of Englishmen have been forced to re-learn what their fathers knew well. It is the same lesson that the Boers of Apartheid knew well, and that the men of the old Confederacy knew well. The wilful, utopian forgetting of it has cost countless white lives. But these are our dead, and they are too precious, it seems to me, to be remembered on only one day a year.

Hardly unexpectedly, Bruno Gollnisch, deputy leader of the FN and leader of the new nationalist grouping in the European Parliament, has been found guilty of “disputing a crime against humanity”. His judge in the Lyon court handed him a suspended jail sentence of 3 months and a fine of 55,000 euros for the offended “plaintiffs”, plus the cost for the judgment to be published in those newspapers that originally printed his remarks.
His historical disputatiousness occurred in Lyon over two years ago. He had said:-
“Historians have the right to discuss the number of deaths and the way that they died.
What, of course, he should have said was:-
“Only the state has the right to stipulate the number of deaths and the way that they died.
He also said:-
Fifty years after the facts we can discuss the real number of deaths
But what he should have said was:-
Fifty years ... five hundred years ... five thousand years after the facts we shall feel our shame for the state-prescribed number of deaths.
He also said that the:-
existence of the gas chambers is for historians to discuss.
But what he should have said was that the:-
existence of the gas chambers is for the state to drill into us everyday, ceaselessly, until we are filled with such a sense of sin we can think of nothing but eternal recompense to our vibrant minorities, and especially towards our Jews.
For these oversights Gollnisch has been duly punished. So have we.

MR regulars will by now recognise the initials of commenter PF. He, like us all, has followed his own unique path here, involving in his case a brush with the theatre of the absurd as he explains in this, his first post ...
GW
Anti-racism has a new star and spokesperson in the person of Antony Medley, a man who embodies in himself some of the noblest aspects of that so noble movement.
Antony’s entire world is anti-racism, a fact he first made clear to us all in his landmark video, Racism is Ignorance. Here, Antony layed out his philosophical justification for an aggressive, even potentially violent, new kind of anti-racism: “I’m not racist, but I am racist against racists.”
Eventually, his video provoked such a strong response from both fans and detractors alike, he was positively compelled to produce another one. Well, obviously he had to placate his expanding fanbase somehow and “correct” those sinners on the right. In large part, his second video repeated his earlier work. But at least it bore a more concise title: Racism Ignorance.
Unlike many anti-racists Antony didn’t simply block commentors who disagreed with him. True to his messianic spirit he actually engaged them in open debate on his Video Comments sections. This duly attracted determined proponents from both sides of the ideological fence, producing threads of 100+ entries - sufficient for the clearest understanding of the issues under discussion for anybody who wanted it.
Antony probably did not want it.

I came across this story in the Mail on Sunday today. It is very sad - the pain of a mother whose nineteen year old son disappeared without trace two years ago while on a journey in Cambodia.
It’s a story that we hear rather too often now. Not enough attention - in fact, probably no attention - is paid to the causes, and to the potential great peril in which we blithely place our most treasured possessions, our children.
I blogged about it in February of last year, following the killing of a young British girl on the beach at Koh Samui in Thailand. In the Mail article today, the mother of the missing boy has been made to understand in the cruellest way:-
Now, when I hear mothers blithely planning their teenage children’s gap years, my stomach churns. As they muse over the exciting challenges and mind-expanding experiences offered abroad, I want to scream: ‘No, no, no.’ Are they totally blind to the potential dangers?
... as I’ve discovered, travelling around Europe is utterly different to backpacking around one of the most deprived areas of the world, where drugs are rife, foreigners are exploited for their money and life is cheap. If parents could see the truth - as I’ve been forced to - they’d think again.
There was never a time when independent travel to Asia or Africa was safe. But in the age of Empire, travelling Britons enjoyed a certain privilege and authority. No doubt, they fully exploited their position, and made no bones about demanding deference from the natives. Sahib might have seemed insufferably boorish to us from a modern perspective. But his status offered a certain protection that today’s starry-eyed One-World egalitarianism absolutely does not.
And then there is impressionableness. The Mail story reveals that the missing nineteen year old was not on a trip during his gap year. But it was his gap year that caused him to take off again.
Though Eddie came back safely from his gap year, he found it impossible to settle. Three weeks after starting university, he secretly withdrew £3,000 from his bank account and booked a flight to Bangkok.
So his gap year had not equipped him to return to the rigours of full-time study, as advertised on the can. Here’s why, probably. The fearless stupidity of youth.
I don’t really know what one should do about all this - save to make sure that these big kids understand something that might protect them from real life. One can’t ask the educational authorities to be responsible in what heady expectations they engineer - they are all One-World fantasists anyway. Nor can one turn to the travel industry for help - too self-interested. That leaves government, and they are all liberals too, and the FO has some very pressing reasons for keeping the local pols sweet. No wonder there are those among our children who wind up alone in some not-so-picturesque Third World shithole, learning when it’s all too late that naivety and hedonism are not universal values.

From the BBC:-
A Christian couple from Lancashire have been awarded £10,000 in an out-of-court settlement after they were questioned by police about their moral beliefs.
Helen and Joe Roberts, from Fleetwood, complained about taxpayers’ money being used for leaflets about gay rights and called homosexuality “immoral”.
Wyre Borough Council informed Lancashire Constabulary. Officers then quizzed the couple for over an hour.
The council and police said they had now apologised to the Roberts.
They also said policies had been revised to protect all parties.
I rather doubt that “all parties” claim. “All parties” can only be treated equally if the decisions in specific cases are free of minority nepotism. I just don’t believe that minorities who retain their ethnocentic (or faith-centric) worldviews can be as fair and self-abnegating as, regrettably, we are. Like all councils Wyre (PDF) has its Equality Action Plan. But how, exactly, could it implement a race-blind policy of council employment? Does not equality imply merit under Britain’s current laws? How is that possible if a nepotistic Pakistani happens to be taking the hiring decisions? Genuine equality would require a certain standard in how races view themselves and eachother, and of course it does not exist. Nor can it.
The same is true of any Marxistically-embattled minority viz-a-vis the majority.
Still, it’s good to see the Council and Lancashire Police forced into humility this time. One must hope that a few egalitarian wings have been clipped.
The other cause for some Christmas cheer is this story from The Times:-

They were gathered in the sight of … who else but the world’s press to plead for the mercy of the court in Baghdad as their abductors prepare to face justice. Beneath the picture of the three men on my TV a news-text ran horizontally, informing me that: “Iraq hostages forgive their victims”.
Now don’t mock. This turns out to have been a most fortuitous and accurate mistake.

There was a small but good crop of interesting stories in today’s Brit papers, including this extraordinary one headlined straight from “the last days”. The content doesn’t actually live up to the drama of that headline - yet - but the contrary dynamics are there. They bring into prospect a deepening of cultural division which no government, however desperate for assimilation, will be able to resolve. I get a clear picture of the good ship MultiCult, released from her great wooden slipway blocks and even now nosing ungainly into the dirty grey waters as the Minister and his lady wife frantically search for the broken shards of the magnum.
Sharia law as authority wanes
Islamic sharia law is gaining an increasing foothold in parts of Britain, a report claims.
... the BBC Radio 4 programme Law in Action produced evidence yesterday that it was being used by some Muslims as an alternative to English criminal law. Aydarus Yusuf, 29, a youth worker from Somalia, recalled a stabbing case that was decided by an unofficial Somali “court” sitting in Woolwich, south-east London.
... Dr Prakash Shah, a senior lecturer in law at Queen Mary University of London, said such tribunals “could be more effective than the formal legal system”.
In his book Islam in Britain, Patrick Sookhdeo, director of the Institute for the Study of Islam and Christianity, says there is an “alternative parallel unofficial legal system” that operates in the Muslim community on a voluntary basis.
“Sharia courts now operate in most larger cities, with different sectarian and ethnic groups operating their own courts that cater to their specific needs according to their traditions,” he says. These are based on sharia councils, set up in Britain to help Muslims solve family and personal problems.
Sharia councils may grant divorces under religious law to a woman whose husband refuses to complete a civil divorce by declaring his marriage over. There is evidence that these councils are evolving into courts of arbitration.
Faizul Aqtab Siddiqi, a barrister and principal of Hijaz College Islamic University, near Nuneaton, Warwicks, said this type of court had advantages for Muslims. “It operates on a low budget, it operates on very small timescales and the process and the laws of evidence are far more lenient and it’s less awesome an environment than the English courts,” he said.
Mr Siddiqi predicted that there would be a formal network of Muslim courts within a decade.
Then, from the home side, there was this:-

Proposition 1
The flight of the middle classes from the inner cities is threatening to undo 30 years of progress that has made Britain the best place in Europe for ethnic minorities, the country’s race equality chief said yesterday.
Trevor Phillips, the outgoing chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), said increased polarisation and segregation in areas deserted by the better-off was “the great threat” to the development of a diverse and harmonious society.
From today’s Daily Telegraph, reporting another speech by the first among equals. This time he wowed a conference in London to mark the 30th anniversary of the dratted Race Relations Act.
Proposition 2
As members of the Kensal Green Tribe, a gang which robbed victims at knifepoint, Donnel Carty and Delano Brown thought themselves untouchable.
Their faces concealed by hoods, they terrorised late-night London Underground passengers, demanding their phones and money — a practice known as steaming.
The attacks were fast, lasting no more than 90 seconds to ensure they were completed before the train drew into a station.
Those who stood up for themselves were punched, kicked or threatened with weapons, often knives. If they continued to resist, they were “juked” — stabbed in the leg for showing disrespect.
... As the attacks multiplied, the gang grew increasingly confident of being able to operate without being caught. By the end of last year, it was out of control, having targeted 90 people in two months.
“They were easily one of the nastiest steaming gangs we’ve ever come across,” said a police source. “They were becoming more and more violent, acting like a pack of wolves. No one was safe. They attacked both men and women — anyone who had something they could take.”
From today’s Daily Telegraph, reporting on the pair of “teenagers” found guilty yesterday of the murder of London solictor Tom ap Rhys Pryce. They were handed down sentences of 21 and 17 years.
Trevor Phillips is also seeking a life sentence for the English middle-class.

According to the recently released Department of Justice annual hate crimes report, about 60% of all hate crimes were perpetrated by the racial category of “white”. You can see for yourself here. Neither Latinos nor Hispanics are mentioned, but it is well known that somewhere between 88% and 91% of all Latinos are classified as “white” by race in the USA.
However, when we look at the statistics about victims of hate crimes, we see that Latinos/Hispanics are well represented with their own ethnic category. Look here.
This is profoundly dishonest. MR readers may want to try their statistical skills to tease out additional problems or information. Merging “white” and most “Latinos” in a single category of hate crime perpetrator and assigning them all the racial label “white” has been the practise since national statistics of hate crimes were first recorded. Of course, when it comes to victim status all “Latinos” are bunched together. Thus, the “white” perpetrator class is pumped up, and the “white” victim class is comparatively reduced.
By the way, this approach also applies in other areas. When you look at statistics on unmarried mothers, for example, you will find that “Latinos” are scattered within the races as part of “white,” “black,” and “Asian” and serve to seriously expand the “white” racial category of unmarried mothers.
This is also the origin of the “non-Hispanic white” label although you will never see “non-Hispanic Asian” (yes, they are a real category) and “non-Hispanic black” (another big category).

Slowly the British political Establishment is coming to terms with what it means when you replace a people for the sake of cheap labour and equality. From The Times:-
Spread of race ghettos fuels gang warfare
AN east London teenager who became a drug dealer and a knife-wielding member of a street gang lays the blame on the transformation of his neighbourhood into an ethnic minority “ghetto” where turf warfare flourishes.
“I fell in with the wrong crowd,” said Syed Miah, 19, who regrets his life of crime. “Before, it was mixed and you would get to know other people, but now no one meets anyone. You grow up with this mentality that ‘we’re Bangladeshis, whites are whites and blacks are blacks’.”
... There are ethnic gang fights in Manchester and Birmingham and last week they spread to Windsor, where rioting erupted around an Asian-owned dairy and nearby prayer centre.
... Nowhere is the ethnic basis of gangs more evident than in London, where the cultural patchwork is the most complicated in Britain. According to new figures, in the borough of Brent there is an 85% chance that any two people chosen at random would belong to different ethnic groups.
Bangladeshis, Somalis, Pakistanis, Afro–Caribbeans and Turks have all formed their own gangs who are as likely to fight each other as they are to attack or be attacked by white thugs.
Last year Lee Jasper, a policing adviser to Ken Livingstone, the London mayor, warned that one south London gang, the Muslim Boys, was the “most serious criminal threat” the black community had ever faced. It was accused of shooting a man, execution-style, after he refused to convert to Islam, and has been implicated in dozens of other muggings and attempted murders.
... Many peaceable residents, however, are being pushed out of the area. Carly, 25, a white telephone receptionist, said that every day during her 15-minute walk to and from work she tries to “make myself invisible”.
Last month 30 gang members had an armed brawl in the area. In August Carly saw a gang pull a knife on a passer-by. When the police were called, said Carly, they stopped briefly at the end of the road and drove on. “I’m planning to move out now,” she said.
And the Establishment’s answer to this: more supposed integration. More la-la land. They haven’t noticed yet that the game is lost. They may never notice.

Here follows a diverse selection of quotes from news pieces great and small in today’s British national press. A feast of shockingly inconvenient truths lurk in each story. However, our beloved news folk, ever optimistic about the free, vibrant future of Babylon, avoid all that - and feed us this stuff instead:-
Jack Straw, stoking up his leadership bid: With all the caveats, I would prefer women not to wear the veil.
… Communities are bound together partly by informal chance relations between strangers - people being able to acknowledge each other in the street or being able pass the time of day. That’s made more difficult if people are wearing a veil.
David Davis, the alleged right-wing Conservative Shadow Home Secretary, commenting on John Reid’s sudden interest in how immigration overtakes the infrastructure: At long last the Home Secretary looks like he is coming round to our way of thinking. We have consistently been saying that immigration can be of benefit to the country but only if it is properly controlled.
Dr Jamil Sherif, optimistic secretary of the research committee of the Muslim Council of Britain, swallowing some government spin: The ONS report highlights the ethnic and religious diversity in Brent and Harrow. Both local authority districts have good community relations and cohesion - which shows multiculturalism works.
Windsor Council leader Mary-Rose Gliksten, fiddling away furiously while the on-going dairy riots between English and Asian youths in the town get as far as petrol bombs by the roadside: We have got a long and proud history of our community relations in Windsor and we regret incidents that have happened this week. We will be doing everything to calm the situation.
A BBC News source commenting on newsreader Fiona Bruce’s dhimmitudinous removal of her cross necklace: It was argued that BBC staff on screen should not wear anything which hints or directly points to a political or religious leaning and that the cross contravened this and should not be allowed.
A “friend” of Premiership footballer, Lua Lua, after the Congolese “star’s” arrest for allegedly beating up his fiancée at 2am in a hotel room: Natalie is his long-term girlfriend but he does put himself around. None of his children are hers.
Natalie lives with him but when he’s clubbing it’s with his male friends, not her. Girls swoon over him because he’s a star.
The mother of murdered black teenager Anthony Walker, on the pathetic inadequate who posted offensive rubbish on Anthony’s tribute site, and got 2 years and 8 months: Hitler started with an idea, slavery started with an idea, so it is good that this was stopped in time.
And just one little note of truth, but not coming out of real life events ... just an opinion piece from the most censorious Multicult-lover in the game …
Ugandan Asian journo Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, lambasting us as usual in The Independent: There is another island nation which fears the stranger, wants high walls to keep out the multiracial wash, is pitiless in its rejection of non Anglo-Saxon peoples and their ways - curries notwithstanding. (Remember 87 per cent of Britain is white and 75 per cent Christian.). Here things are getting appallingly hostile. The anti-Muslim riots in Windsor, the whites who voted for the BNP in Barking, blatant and shameless middle-class racism makes me wonder if there is a future for the Britain I praise. Muslim separatist fanatics feed the prejudiced. In small pockets there is a ghetto mentality if not quite the reality. White no-go localities are becoming lethal places for outsiders.
… Inter-ethnic and inter-religious rancour increases among the young and most-educated too. State policies have heightened tribal consciousness; unemployment rates among British-born ethnic groups are twice that of whites …

A report published by the government predicts more than 12m adults and one million children will be obese by 2010 if nothing is done.
The Health Survey for England also warns 19% of boys and 22% of girls aged two to 15 will be obese.
Thus spake the BBC a month ago. Now, the situation appears to have reversed dramatically, at least if this is to be believed:
Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has called for “stick-thin” models to be banned from the catwalks during London Fashion Week.
It comes after Madrid’s fashion week, one of Spain’s most prestigious shows, banned underweight models on the basis of their body mass index (BMI).
Whilst not quite mutually exclusive, the two concerns sit oddly side by side. After all, if the influence of models is leading to greater consciousness about weight, presumably this would curtail the rise of obesity. At the same time, the allure of hamburgers and McFries should, if nothing else, make a model diet all the harder to follow.

Casualties of the self-defence laws
“The people shouldn’t fear the government. The government should fear the people” goes the oft-quoted libertarian motto. Whilst there is some truth to this, in saying this we should not forget that it is even more crucial to a free and ordered society that something other than the government should fear the people: the criminal class.
Once, this was virtually an axiom in the West-Northern Europe countries which pioneered modern constitutional government. The Anglo-Saxon tradition of Common Law had, as one of its most basic assumptions, the principle that each man has the right and duty to take measures to protect himself, his property, family and the wider community from anti-social and dangerous individuals. Weapon rights were sacred, men were men, women were unmolested and social deviants and vagabonds were scared.
In the modern day, quite the opposite can be assumed. I need only mention the case of Tony Martin, a farmer whose farm was invaded and vandalised frequently by several common hooligans. One night, fearing for his life and wishing to defend his land, he fired at his nocturnal invaders, scaring them off and fatally wounding one of them. He was sentenced to five years in prison (the surviving hooligan got only two), where once he would have been applauded for standing up to bullying criminal low-lives.
We might also consider the more recent case of Mr. Kirby, on which I have already commented. He assaulted a thug when the latter was harassing a lady on the tube. The conductor, deaf to both the lady’s and Mr. Kirby’s earlier pleas for help, was only too willing to listen to the siren wail of the poor,
depraved deprived harassers. He ended up getting community service and having to pay the lout £1000 to assuage his hurt feelings.
If we can detect a common strand, it would have to be that in both cases the original perpetrators of a crime were punished less severely (if at all) than those acting in legitimate self-defence. Both Tony Martin and Mr. Kirby had good reason to fear either for their own life or for the well-being of another innocent. Both the ‘victims’ were thugs and criminals who were attempting to commit some injustice. What is the point of all the West’s much-touted rights to life and liberty if we are denied the means to protect these?
Anti-self-defence laws are a suicide pact, made by those who won’t have to commit suicide for those who will.

In The Times this morning we read that:-
THE Home Office is privately warning that 45,000 “undesirable” migrants from Romania and Bulgaria could legally be allowed to live in Britain when the two countries join the European Union next year.
It has drawn up a confidential “warnings index” of people from the two states, most of whom are suspected of having criminal associations or posing a security risk.
According to a paper circulated in Whitehall last week, ministers fear they may be unable to stop these people settling in Britain and claiming state benefits when Romania and Bulgaria join the EU.
The paper reveals that the government privately estimates between 60,000 and 140,000 Romanians and Bulgarians will arrive in Britain in the first year after accession.
Not to be outdone this morning’s Telegraph carries this:-
John Reid has embarked on a major transformation of the Home Office, but one of the causes of its failure has been ignored. In 1999 it was set a target to ensure that 25 per cent of its work force in London was from ethnic minorities by 2009. It exceeded the target by the halfway stage in 2004 and ethnic minorities now make up more than 38 per cent of head office. However, the Home Office “milestone report” also drew attention to an unwelcome side-effect.
Members of ethnic minorities have not performed as well as white staff in Civil Service examinations. Civil servants who hope for promotion attend “assessment centres”, where they take written tests, carry out exercises and are interviewed. In 2004, the results for higher executive officer and Grade 7 assessments were “again disappointing”. The pass rate for minority ethnic staff was “lower than for white staff”.

BNP teacher can only teach whites
A council has sparked outrage after allegedly ordering a school to make sure a teacher who stood as a candidate for the British National Party only teaches white pupils.
Teachers claim Clive Jones has been kept away from ethnic minority children once his ties with the far-right group became known.
Union leaders have written to Derby City Council accusing it of playing into the hands of the party which has been widely condemned for its extremist views.
I think that this is a wonderful idea, and that the principle implicit in it should be extended further. Socialists should only teach the underclass, gay activists should only teach practising queens and black activists should only teach blacks. Multiculturalists should only teach genetically engineered race-less test-tube babies.

Liberals believe in freedom, surely? That’s what they keep on telling us reactionary, bigoted authoritarians. A number of students at Warwick L’Uni might just disagree, however:
Students at Warwick University have been banned from flying the England flag ahead of this month’s World Cup, it emerged today.
Students have been told that no flags can be displayed at windows before or after the tournament, and that flags of countries which did not qualify - such as Scotland - may not be flown at all.
The university authorities are worried that flying the flag might cause tension between students of different nationalities who live in the halls.
In other words, the ethnic situation at the university is so volatile that even the slightest reminder of the existence of another nation might send many of its students into a genocidal rage. Given what I think about Warwick University, this surprises me not in the slightest.
But surely the university, multiculti authorities should hesitate before admitting that its students are this hate-filled and intolerant of all nationalites other than their own. Might throw a spanner into the wheels of the Undivertable Enlightened Train, mightn’t it?
This is especially sweet and meet as Warwick has long carved for itself a niche as the most “tolerant”, “inclusive”, etc of L’Uni bins. Tolerance? For randy homosexuals, but not for patriotic Englishmen- or indeed patriotic anyones. Inclusive? It effectively excludes from its dominant culture the vast majority of all Englishmen.
The students in question sound like imminently sensible fellows, especially for a place like Warwick, with one exception. One of them said:
The university have treated us with contempt. They originally told us we weren’t allowed flags at all because flags might create an opportunity for violence.
International students have chosen to come to this country so I don’t think they will have a problem with the English flag.
I wouldn’t bet on it. Only too many British residents of a certain extraction regard ther penetration of the West as a continuation of the battle they lost at the Gates of Vienna. But then, given their disorderly behaviour, they aren’t particularly likely to be university students.
One of the ignominies inflicted by the West on its colonial holdings was the denial to them of expressions of their nationality. As I have written before, our ethnic guests are increasingly acting like our pith-helmeted masters.
I have had the doctrine of national liberation rammed into my eyelids by Leftie teachers: why, pray tell, does it not apply to the English?

The lesson is simple enough. After the Wall went down many far left activists looking for somewhere to exorcise their demons migrated into the animal rights movement. They quickly turned it into animal rights extremism. Where once it was Red Lion Square it became Huntingdon Laboratory. But, to modify Newton’s Third Law, in our society extremist activisim unfailingly produces a reaction among ordinary people. It offends against their inate sense of justice and moderation, and thank heavens for it.
But usually there is a modifier to this: it doesn’t matter. Reaction is rarely directly transferrable to politics. Very many issues, and animal rights is one, never arise at election time and thus a reactionary public has no purchase on events. It must rely on its elected representatives to share its sensibilities.
In our time we have, with the great Marxisation of the zeitgeist since the 1980’s, seen that this does not work nearly well enough. It is a flaw in the democratic process and it has allowed extremisms other than animal rights - and ethnic interests other than our own - to seize the tiller of our politics. All the narrow egalitarian “movements” of the last forty years have been anti-democratic in this way, and continue to be so. What else are the special interest groups, NGO’s and what-have-you but evidence incarnate that democracy has been subborned and the will of the people dismissed?
I really don’t know how much opinion polls like this one by YouGov cost. More than interested parties such as the BNP can afford, no doubt. Still, it would be extremely interesting and useful (and novel) to have opinion polled using the language of political freedom. How would the native English population answer a question that asked, “Do you think it’s right that before the end of this century the English could lose their homeland to people from the Third World?” Or “Should you be free to speak as you wish, within the bounds of common decency, and to associate with whom you please?” Or “Should children be taught Marxist ideals at school?”
Any billionaire reader who has tired of the Champagne lifestyle and wants to do something useful for a change could do worse than think on that.

Some resolve in the House: “Conservative House Republicans bluntly warned their leaders Thursday against any immigration compromise that would allow temporary foreign workers and assailed a Senate proposal that would open the way for illegal immigrants to earn citizenship. “My fear is that if we continue down this path that the Senate has established, that we will have created the biggest magnet ever,” said Representative Bob Beauprez, a Colorado Republican. “It would be like a dinner bell, ‘Come one, come all.’ ” But the bipartisan authors of a Senate plan that would combine new border protections with a temporary worker program and a process for illegal immigrants to qualify for residency and eventually citizenship said they thought they were gaining support as the Senate moved deeper into its immigration fight.”
The Swedes are getting what they foolishly bargained for: “The wave of robberies the city of Malmo has witnessed during this past year is part of a “war against the Swedes.” This is the explanation given by young robbers from immigrant backgrounds when questioned about why they only rob native Swedes, in interviews with Petra Akesson for her thesis in sociology. “I read a report about young robbers in Stockholm and Malmo and wanted to know why they rob other youths. It usually does not involve a lot of money,” she says. She interviewed boys between 15 and 17 years old, both individually and in groups. Almost 90% of all robberies reported to the police were committed by gangs, not individuals. “When we are in the city and robbing we are waging a war, waging a war against the Swedes.” This argument was repeated several times”
Commemorative crosses constitute the establishment of a church??: “The Utah Attorney General’s Office has asked a judge to toss out a lawsuit filed against the state over roadside crosses honoring troopers killed in the line of duty. The lawsuit was filed by the American Atheists, who say the crosses are religious symbols that violate the separation of church and state.” There is NO constitutional requirement to separate church and State—only a requirement that no particular church be “established” (State supported)
French winemakers surrender to Anglo-Saxon practices (how that must hurt!): “After failing to hold off the onslaught from New World winemakers, France is to join them in such heresies as adding wood chips and - perhaps - even watering down the wine. The Agriculture Minister has issued a plan to let vignerons compete with growers in the Antipodes and the Americas whose simple flavours and clever marketing have been winning the world’s wine drinkers. “We have to make wine for consumers, not wine that producers dream of,” said Bernard Pomel, author of the plan, which is likely to be adopted soon as law. France still dominates the wine trade, with 40 per cent of world production by value, but its share of the market has been dwindling for a decade. Brussels is even about to allow France to turn thousands of barrels of unsold bordeaux into vinegar.
No homosexual marriage for Australia: “The Federal Government will legislate against any attempts by the ACT to give gay couples the same rights as married couples, Attorney-General Philip Ruddock said today. Mr Ruddock said today the Government would investigate what it could do to block attempts by the ACT Labor Government to pass laws that would establish civil unions for homosexual couples. The ACT legislation would allow those in a civil union the same rights as marriage in everything but name. Under the constitution, the Commonwealth has responsibility for marriage and in 2004, with bipartisan support, the Federal Government legislated to effectively ban gay marriage. Mr Ruddock said the Commonwealth was unhappy with the ACT’s attempts to work around federal laws. “Let me make it very clear, that will not satisfy the Commonwealth and we would include the introduction of legislation to prevent that from occurring,” he said.
Canada’s new Conservative government gets tough on illegals: “The federal government has no plans to follow in the footsteps of the United States, which appears ready to give as many as 11 million illegal workers a chance at U.S. citizenship, Immigration Minister Monte Solberg says. Solberg bluntly rejected the U.S. proposal as a solution for Canada, saying that letting illegal workers remain in this country would send the signal that it’s okay to slip in the back door. “The ideal, of course, is for people to play by the rules and to get in line like everyone else is forced to do,” he said after a cabinet meeting. “If we don’t emphasize that . . . you are sending the message that the way to get in here quickly is to come illegally. We don’t want to send that message,” he said. A U.S. Senate panel just this week approved sweeping election-year legislation that clears the way for 11 million illegal aliens to apply for citizenship without first having to return home. “We’re not looking at the American model,” he said. “We have our own ideas on that.”
Buchanan on Europe: “Since World War II, every country in Western Europe has been ruled for a time by socialists. These regimes put in place laws that ensured job security, a living wage, a shorter workweek than in the United States, generous unemployment benefits, early retirement, magnanimous pensions and state-subsidized health benefits. To finance these maternal welfare states, European regimes take 40 percent or even 50 percent of the economy in taxes, as compared with a U.S. federal, state and local tax bite of 33 percent. But with globalization, European companies and workers who fund these munificent benefits are finding themselves in neo-Darwinian competition for survival, not only with American, Japanese and East Europeans who work longer and harder, but Asians who work longer and harder for a fraction of their pay and few of their benefits. European companies are being stretched and stressed, and some are breaking. The capitalist goose that laid the golden eggs for the Eurosocialists is aging, tiring and becoming ever more barren…. What is coming is a time of continuous and constant cutbacks of benefits in every First World country. Public employees will have to work longer for less today and less tomorrow when they retire”.

I rather liked the last sentence below:

The World Cup in Germany is set to become a battleground between facists and Muslims, an Italian member of a new European neo-Nazi movement warned. In a statement published by Italian daily Repubblica, the memeber of AS Roma’s notorious ultras hooligan group claims neo-Nazis across Europe met in Braunau in Austria to plan attacks against supporters from Islamic countries during the World Cup in Germany from June 9 to July 9. “We are united. For the first time we are talking and planning together, with the English, the Germans, the Dutch, the Spanish, everyone with the same objective. At the World Cup there will be a massacre,” said the Italian ultra.
“We will all be in Germany and there will be Turks, Algerians and Tunisians. The Turks, we can’t stand them. In our country (Italy) there are not many, but in Germany, there are many of those guys there. They are Islamic terrorists. “We will attack them. They are all enemies that need to be eliminated, just like the police. If we make the Roman greeting (the fascist salute) they put us in prison. We will be tens of thousands. Nothing but the English are feared.”

“The Duke of Westminster’s purchase of a famous Paris flea market is the latest rout in what is being decried on the French side of the Channel as a British invasion. “Not only have you stolen `our’ Olympic Games, you are also shamelessly occupying our towns and countryside,” writes Jos,-Alain Fralon, author of Help, the English are Invading Us, which is shortly to go on sale. “The English . . . have their own airports, their newspapers, their pubs, their lawns, their grocer, sometimes their own French wife.” He suggests that the influx of Britons is causing profound damage to relations between the two nations: “How the Entente Cordiale is fading in our own beautiful countryside.” He has a point: in Dompierre-les-Eglises, a village of 400 inhabitants situated 30 miles from Limoges in central France, 54 British families have bought houses.”

Martin Hutchinson won’t like reading this…..
Why do they do it? It’s a yobbo power trip
The British — from hoodies to drunken toffs and even Tony Blair — know the might of a parade, writes Francis Gilbert
Last Sunday I spotted trouble when I was returning home along the City Road in Islington, north London. At first sight the men looked harmless enough: they were white, well dressed in jeans and designer jackets, with shiny leather footwear and nice haircuts. They were not your typical hoodies at all.
But I knew I was vulnerable because they were clearly quite drunk and they were “parading”: their chests were puffed out, they were laughing loudly, they were pushing and shoving each other playfully and, above all, their eyes were searching for an audience.
They kept twisting their heads around to see who might be watching them. As they saw me coming they knew they had a captive and vulnerable audience. For my sins, I get around London by push scooter. It is quick, easy and convenient — but inevitably it does look a little stupid.
“Oi, how old are you? Two years old, you f*****?” one of the men yelled at me as his mates pushed him forward. He had been given the leading role in their new mini-drama of baiting the sad middle-aged loser on the scooter.

I have edited out the fanciful polemics of this article and left below just the case-studies but you can find the original here if you prefer speculation to facts. There is no doubt however that the student loan fiasco is a black mark on the record of the GOP. See here for the actual politics of the matter
The Democratic Party did not find her. The Hollywood liberals did not find her. The reactionaries are not looking for her. But the Chicago Tribune did find Margo Albert and did understand how significant her plight is. The paper wrote, “Margo Alpert is on the 30-year plan. Every month between $500 and $600 is automatically deducted from her salary to pay off college loans. By the time the 29-year-old Chicago public-interest lawyer is in her mid-50s and thinking seriously about retirement, she will finally be free of college debt.”
The newspaper also found Carrie Gevirtz, a 28-year-old social worker with a degree from the University of Chicago, a $55,000 school debt and an annual salary of $33,000. She is quoted as saying, “I can’t afford my lifestyle. I’m not in a position to buy a place. I can’t buy a condo and don’t know when I would, unless my income changed dramatically…. I was not prepared for this…. It really freaked me out.” To make ends meet after deducting her $250 monthly payment on her student loan, Gevirtz has a second job at a health club and does baby-sitting.
Starting July 1 the interest on student loans taken out by students will rise to just less than 7 percent. Loans taken out by parents for students will shoot up to 8.5 percent…..
Whenever the subject of the high and ever mounting cost of tuitions and the student loans needed to pay for them comes up, the focus falls on individual financial hardship. We’re invited to pity or empathize with Margo Alpert, and she certainly deserves it, but our attention is not drawn to the consequences of these arrangements.
The most important consequence of the financial hole the Margo Alperts are in, thanks to their education, is that many of them are going to be childless. Many others will have one child at most. How can a young couple, each with $40,000 or $50,000 of debt, think of having three or four kids? They will have to wait until they are in their late 30s to have a family and by then, when they think of college costs, they will feel compelled to limit themselves to one child.

The satirist is pointing out that much of what is traditionally associated with Australia’s greatest national day—Anzac day, commemorating Australia’s war dead—could be seen as “hate speech” etc. by modern politically correct standards. He also “spins” events in a mockery of the way that many Leftists (Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky etc.) do. The satire is in the form of a letter to a police chief
I have it on good authority that white supremacists/Neo-nazis/Anglo-racists are planning a mass rally on the 25th of April this year. They plan to march down the streets of every town in Australia carrying symbols of racism. This may be identified as a blue flag with a Union Jack, a large seven pointed star and a cross made up of stars, which I may add, is highly offensive to the Muslim community in our great multicultural society.

Children are the producers of the future. This means that children are in a sense a necessary economic good [Update: I mean “good” in the sense of a created product like steel, not in the sense of a positive or negative]. A society that does not produce enough children, or that cannot produce enough children who grow into economically productive adults, is doomed to poverty. Every long-term investment we make, whether in the private or public sector, is predicated on the idea that there will be a future generation which will actually produce a return. It doesn’t matter what economic or political system rules the present, it will need children to secure its future. Even the most self-centered individual would eventual realize that if the next generation cannot produce, his own welfare will suffer.
So, collectively we all need children and benefit when they grow into productive adults, but the cost of raising children is increasingly being borne by fewer and fewer in the general population.
Childless adults are rapidly becoming economic free riders on the backs of parents.

The first young English girl of whose death in Thailand I became aware was Serena Booker, a book researcher and sister of journalist Christopher Booker. She was murdered in 1982 while back-packing - then an uncommon but by no means unknown pursuit - in the north of the country. I have a strong suspicion that no one was ever charged.
Down the years I have noted occasional rapes and murders of Westerners in the country, alongside the promotion of Thailand and other far-flung places as suitable destinations for adventurous students in their gap-years. No doubt I am an over-protective parent, but something about this back-packing lark doesn’t sit well with me. I am a businessman. I know what business cares about and what it doesn’t. A self-interested industry selling a product whose whole point is lack of structure to young people freed of parental oversight, and who by definition are not schooled in human judgement, is likely to abuse the trust placed in it. It is likely to deliver the lowest-quality service with which it can get away.
Quite apart from my suspicions as to the motivations and standards of the Thai gap-year industry, I also recoil from the One-Big-Happy-World assumptions that underpin its message to our young. It is liberal and it is false. The warm, wunnerful Thai people are chiefly warm ‘n wunnerful, I think, when money is being spent. Their concerns do not extend per se to the care and protection of large, pallid-skinned, lazy, over-indulgent, immoral, drunken youths from far away.
That job, in the absence of all locum parentis, falls to the British Consulate. So it was with some interest that I read this quite shocking piece on the BBC News site this evening
