If this is what MR is going to be like in 2012, I’m out of here. I promised myself to spend my time online more wisely. I’m going to begin by reading these Occidental Observer articles I’ve been bookmarking lately while I was checking MR only to encounter gibberish posts and profanity-laden mudslinging contests in the comments section. I guess this means you can add Patton to the ‘departed’ list now. Goodbye.

Perhaps I’m not as perceptive as I might be on this occasion, but I cannot see what this video is attempting to convey?

Soren Renner challenges us, but in what way?

Perhaps he would explain as I think I am not the only one puzzled? There is afterall a distinct lack of responses to this post.

The article is okay; the discussion is problematic, but given the nature of the website, it’s inevitable that bankers and their agents will be out there to spread disinformation.

The article has the following passage:

The only way to reduce the total amount of debt whilst maintaining the amount of money in the economy is to issue debt-free money*. Private banks aren’t allowed to issue such money (they can only issue money attached to debt). The only institution with the power to issue debt-free money is the central bank (in the UK, the Bank of England).

* Assuming simply cancelling debt is not an option.

The first sentence is fine, but the assumption in the footnote isn’t.  When most money represents debt, canceling debt means getting rid of most money.  So what’s needed is a replacement process… replace money as debt with debt-free money.

The second sentence talks about private banks not being allowed to, when why would they want to in the first place?

The third sentence is misleading.  The typical central bank is a private bank, and private bankers don’t want to be creating debt-free money.  It’s the Treasury’s task to issue debt-free money, which it does in the form of coins and must extend this to notes, requiring all electronic money used as legal tender to be backed up by debt-free coins and debt-free notes issued by the Treasury.
