Another assassination attempt on Flemish nationalism

Déjà vu for Vlaams Belang.  Belgium’s biggest political party faces a trial before the Belgian Council of State because of an interview that Filip Dewinter gave the New York magazine Jewish Week (90,000 copies).  The interview was recorded on 28/10/05, coincidentally – perhaps - the same weekend the riots in France started, and soon after spread to Belgium.

The incriminating statement reads:-

: There are those who say Jews should not be voting for a party that espouses xenophobia. Your reaction?

Dewinter

: “Xenophobia” is not the word I would use.  If it absolutely must be a “phobia” let it be “islamophobia”.  Yes, we’re afraid of Islam.  The islamisation of Europe is a frightening thing.  Even distinguished Jewish scholars as Bat Ye’or and Bernard Lewis warned of this.  If this historical process continues, the Jews will be the first victims.  Europe will became as dangerous for them as Egypt or Algeria. So, I return your question.  Should Jews vote for a party that wants to stop the spread of Islam in Europe?

The complaint was lodged in parliament by the Francophone Socialists, a party that is currently involved in mass corruption scandals.  The Francophone Socialists were responding to calls from multicultural youth group Kif Kif (whose president is a payed staff member of the Flemish socialist party) and the French-speaking anti-racism organisation MRAX.  These organisations first lodged an ordinary complaint for criminal persecution against Vlaams Belang leader Filip Dewinter.  But the new procedure in parliament against the whole party might turn out altogether more damaging for Vlaams Belang.

In the election expenses commission of inquiry, the Flemish Socialist SP.A and their little ally Spirit (only 2% in the opinion polls) have backed the PS demands.  The French-speaking Democrat Humanist CDH had earlier sided with the PS party also.

A head count indicated one-third of the commission supports the complaint, allowing for the dossier to be handed over to the Council of State.  But isn’t it very strange that in Belgium political parties are allowed to bring a political competitor before the judge?  Carl Devos, political scientist at Ghent University, has argued in the Het Nieuwsblad newspaper that to be credible a case should be filed by an impartial Public Prosecutor.  As it is, however, the Council of State will now investigate whether Filip Dewinter’s comment breached the European Convention of Human Rights.  And not without importance: half of the Council of State is composed out of French-speakers.

Vlaams Belang risks losing part of its public funding for a period of three months to a year, newspaper ‘De Tijd’ reported on Wednesday. That this is a serious threat for Vlaams Belang should be clear to those who remember an earlier MR post.

A team of Belgian jurists is now busy studying how Vlaams Belang can best be assassinated in a legalistic way.  They need the remainder of this year to plan their attack.  So the dossier will be (in Dutch) handed over to the Council of State in the course of January 2006.

At any event, the trial’s biggest losers are democracy and free speech.

The Belgian “anti-discrimination” law is written by the Walloon “socialists” with the aim of destroying Vlaams Belang conservative party, because Vlaams Belang also wants independance. The French-speaking Walloon Socialists’ objective allies are the other Walloons, the (much smaller) Flemish socialists and in general the Muslims. The fact that the “offence” is labelled as “incitement to racist hatred” is ridiculous and only proofs that Belgium is already far on the way to dhimmitude. And that within a decade Brussels will be a Muslim city and that the French-speaking socialists then will be thanked as useless idiots doesn’t seem to bother them for now.

I can add a comment from Flemish mainstream quality newspaper De Standaard, who makes the remark that in such a repressive system EVERYBODY can expect sooner or later “the knock on the door from the Thought Police”, while on the other side everybody may to one’s heart’s content spit on everything that is sacred to others.  That’s not well-balanced.
