Wow, assuming the story got wide coverage, that’s quite a pass from the west-hating media (reporting - presumably exclusively - his fantasy name in lieu of his legal name).

I was well aware of his ethnicity at the time. It wasn’t emphasised in the Anglo media but anyone who read the newspaper articles was well aware that he was part Algerian.

What the media did cover up though was the letter he wrote explaining why he was angry at feminism. I heard of some of the complaints he had (affirmative action, treating Canadian female war veterans as if they were as important as the males who died) and they were understandable - though obviously his actions were not. The extreme feminist assault on Canadian men, with the backing of government and media, ruined the lives of many men and the laws they got passed are still wreaking havoc.

It’s interesting that Mark Steyn is the one returning to the now rarely talked about Montreal Massacre. I don’t think he’s ever mentioned the black and “native” Indian crime that plagues Canada today but he brings up the Algerian background of a murderer who struck 16 years ago

This example of Arab criminality seems to have gone virtually unreported in the world’s press. Snouck says:

If a Morroccan drops from his bike/scooter and a Dutchman walks past, the Morroccan will sometimes immediately attack the Dutchman. I have seen this happening with my own eyes. Mark Steyn is only a half-Jew. Why should he choose the interests of his father’s side of the family (Jewish) ahead of his mother’s side of the family (Irish Catholic)?

Mark Steyn is only a half-Jew. Why should he choose the interests of his father’s side of the family (Jewish) ahead of his mother’s side of the family (Irish Catholic)?

Well for one thing, if he’s going to play the ethnic suspicion game, it’s pretty likely it’s going to be his jewish half talking (negative trust rating), not his Irish Catholic half (very high trust rating).  For another, in a toss-up the stronger ethnic identity wins and jewish identity is stronger than Irish Catholic identity.

The smart money is on Steyn identifying as a jew.  That said, didn’t someone post a link here recently to Steyn going the other way?

Steyn’s mother is a Catholic from Belgium - the country whose future he says he’s indifferent about!  His father’s family were Jews from Odessa who settled in Ireland, then Canada. Steyn was born in Canada but raised in England and now lives in New Hampshire by the Quebec border. He doesn’t appear to have any Irish in him.  I think he said he was raised Catholic but became a Baptist in the US

Despite what Lawrence Auster thinks I’ve seen nothing to indicate that Steyn himself has been deliberately ambiguous about his ethnicity, nationality, and religion. I think the confusion comes from people on the internet getting it wrong then passing it on. I might have done that myself at this blog last year only to realise it after the thread was inactive, so I didn’t bother to correct it.

Those things can go either way. There are even stories about half-Jewish Soldiers who were willing to fight for the Third Reich. These things are not biologically determined in the absolute the way people some might be tempted to think.

A lot often also depends on which of the parents was stronger in leaving an imprint on the mind when the child is growing up.

The reason why is unknown, but he clearly states he’s not concerned about Belgian survival, however, he is a well-known advocate of Israel.

Im concerned about Belgium’s fate - I would like to see it divided between France (getting the French bit) and Holland (getting the Flemish bit).

If Steyn’s Mother was a Belgian Catholic then she was very likely French/Walloon.
