Cool videos

A contributor wants to add a bunch of videos, to be served from MR. I need to test some options.

You can see a video screen below with a two-item playlist attached at the bottom. Click an item within the playlist and it will play. Using a playlist allows one to post multiple videos on the same page without posting multiple video screens. If the playlist were lengthy, say, containing twenty items, then one could display a short playlist window with a scroll bar at the right as in a web browser.

As you will observe, I have been able to put Søren's cat to good use.

When watching lengthy videos online, people like to fast forward sometimes. This requires a streaming server, which MR doesn't have and won't be able to set up. Therefore, the default option will be that one can fast forward up to a portion of the video that one has downloaded so far. However, there is a pseudostreaming option that can be used. This option will work if MR can deliver the video fast enough and the viewer has a fast internet connection. You will see two options below regarding a lengthy video. When using the pseudostreaming option, drag the video progress slider to arbitrary positions and see how well it works. It shouldn't take more than a few seconds for the video to start playing at the selected position. I recommend trying the regular option (progressive download) first so that the surprise element in the video isn't lost.

If either MR is serving the video slowly or the viewer has a slow internet connection, then the playback will be full of interruptions. In such cases the regular (progressive download) option will be best since the viewer can just wait for the whole video to download to his computer and then play it smoothly. So i need feedback from those based outside the U.S. regarding whether the pseudostreaming option is useful at all. If so, then lengthy videos can be posted with both options seen below.

I can’t get any better performance out of the Pseudostream. If anything, worse.
