Democracy, Open Borders and George GallowayIsn’t Democracy great? Not many who repeat the platitude for our times ever really grasp the full meaning of it. For our non-British readers, here is a little refresher: George Galloway is a left-wing gadfly who used to be in the Labour Party. He is very very left-wing. When the British government decided to go along with the US into Iraq, it was a bit much for George. So he quit. Iraq must’ve caused something akin to a revolt within the wonderful “Nu Labour” coalition. There were even stories in the right-wing press at the time that Galloway received money from Saddam. At any rate, he seemed to be finished politically. Or so we thought. Fast forward to 2005. Galloway cleverly picks an impoverished London constituency packed with Muslim immigrants and runs on a rabidly anti-war platform. The labour MP in that constituency is Oona King, who is black-Jewish. Galloway’s supporters exploit the fact of King’s Jewish origin in a Muslim dominated constituency and pull off a famous win. Funny thing Multiculturalism and Democracy (the two commandments of Tony the great). They don’t always produce results that are particularly to the liking of its vehement proponents. Is this not a warning shot to the great statesmen that are hell bent on destroying this country (or metamorphosing it into something else entirely, at any rate)? Have they heard the warning bells? Nah. The deaf can’t hear. And these people aren’t just deaf, they’re blind. Posted by Phil Peterson on Friday, May 6, 2005 at 04:20 PM in British Politics Comments:2
