Hate

Hate is the emotion of powerless resistance.

Hate becomes a crime during the last stages of consolidating tyranny.

Hate is what you feel when you can’t challenge motherfuckers to single deadly combat for even the slightest perceived transgression. Like when the hapless teenager working the counter at Micky D’s fucks up your order. Oooooh, now that’s some some serious accounts that need settling.

Hate is just one of our perceptual/behavioural modes generated by the emotional faculty of the brain. It is evolved, it is more often adaptive than maladaptive. It is perfectly normal in the appropriate circumstance.

It is also used by people who like to pathologise others, which is hate too, of course, but not in an appropriate circumstance.

GW: There are neural correlates of hatred

In this work, we address an important but unexplored topic, namely the neural correlates of hate. In a block-design fMRI study, we scanned 17 normal human subjects while they viewed the face of a person they hated and also faces of acquaintances for whom they had neutral feelings. A hate score was obtained for the object of hate for each subject and this was used as a covariate in a between-subject random effects analysis. Viewing a hated face resulted in increased activity in the medial frontal gyrus, right putamen, bilaterally in premotor cortex, in the frontal pole and bilaterally in the medial insula. We also found three areas where activation correlated linearly with the declared level of hatred, the right insula, right premotor cortex and the right fronto-medial gyrus. One area of deactivation was found in the right superior frontal gyrus. The study thus shows that there is a unique pattern of activity in the brain in the context of hate. Though distinct from the pattern of activity that correlates with romantic love, this pattern nevertheless shares two areas with the latter, namely the putamen and the insula.”

The idea that those who engage in diagnostic aggression are experiencing what we think of as “hate” is far from obvious. That sort of behavior is highly sociopathic, of course, but a characteristic of sociopaths is that they are rather dispassionate in their treatment of other people as objects to be manipulated.

Certainly, it would be interesting to get some of these Frankfurt School types into an fMRI machine, but I believe CC is correct that bottled up aggression, rather than aggression itself (which is what is going on during the “diagnosis”) is the primary driver of those neural correlates. If only CC were correct that the Frankfurt School’s insult was as trivial as a mistake of a fast food worker.

In Depression Uncouples Hate Circuit some Chinese researchers support the rather common sense idea that a society that both induces and pathologizes hate will lead to massive clinical depression.

It should be pretty obvious that the likes of the Frankfurt School (and, on a trivial wannabe scale here at MR, Captain Chaos) are engaging in biological warfare.

Hatred is a map to justice, particularly necessary when we have nobody to talk to in confirmation of our concerns.

daniel, isolation is, in civilization, powerlessness and having no one to talk to in confirmation of our concerns is certainly a sign of isolation. Social isolation is, therefore, a powerful weapon used by the political animal against the individual. Indeed it is likely that an aspect of the evolution of “Chutzpah” is a group organism using one of its members as bait to identify individuals to be socially isolated by the diagnostic aggression of “hate” as pathology. Of course, if the individual actually counters with normal male aggression he invites a counter attack by a gang known as the police force. If neither hate nor normal male aggression are elicited then the individual is either conquered and destined for clinical depression, or is identified as “of the body”.

Of course, mass media can take “Chutzpah” to levels undreamed of because there is minimal risk to the “bait” as it dances about screaming “shoot me now!” thousands of miles from the livingroom in which its insulting images are being fed to the wives and children of the hapless men.

I can vouch for that. It corresponds with my experience.

Some years back, having finally attained a modicum of direct, social corroboration, I began to settle down from the “hate maps” that I had needed when in isolation. This was at a time just before the Internet provided ready corroboration, so getting to square one on race entailed much struggle and a stilted view (erudition) to overcome disconfirmation. However, at that point “Chuzpah”* was invoked against me and that set my hate maps off again - specifically, what I really could not tolerate was being told that “nobody agreed with you.”...“of course nobody agrees with ‘racism’ anymore”.... these were phrases that were used by a Jewish professor, taken up by a friend in one instance and even by my father, in another two cases, as he had apparently been told to dutifully parrot the contention that “nobody agreed with me”...that invoked a sense of isolation and rage over injustices that was intolerable.. I sought the maps again.

* In one case the source was Jewish media, in another case it was specific Jewish people.

Hate is underrated.

Hate is a useful emotion and can be deployed in effective ways.

Love and hate keep me warm at night.

Both require an outlet.

Why were you hanging out with Jews? You should avoid them like the plague.

This was a long time ago. I wasn’t hanging out with Jews, I had one as a professor.

Besides, you have to learn where they are coming from.

YKW need to be hated for their tribal cohesion mechanism to work. Fight them every step of the way but don’t hate them - even though they deserve it - because hate makes them stronger.

it is more often adaptive than maladaptive.

Presumably because one instance of misguided open-ness can spell death, where it’s hard to conceive of a lack of open-ness to strangers ever doing so?

There is an analogy, according to Rosenblatt, between immunological reactions of the body and the ethnocentric reactions of the individual or of a society. Just as the body is better prepared to avoid destruction by foreign substances as a result of a generalised tendency to resist the impingement of foreign substances, so an individual or a society may be better prepared to avoid destruction by aliens as a result of a generalised tendency to distrust, avoid, or reject foreign-seeming individuals. The disadvantage of severe damage or destruction, whether likely to occur or not, is so much greater than whatever advantages contact with things alien confers on one that a psychological or biochemical paranoia is the preferred strategy for survival. Where one failure to anticipate the malevolence of an alien person or substance may be fatal, organisms that must acquire defensive reactions to each specific harmful person or substance are less likely to survive during a given period of time than organisms prepared to be defensive against all alien persons or substances.
