Mariel Garza: Be Careful What You Wish For

It’s time to go our own way. With the sixth-largest economy in the world and a population larger than most countries, we have the means to do it. And we should take Oregon and Washington with us.

Perhaps only a Hispanic writing for a liberal newspaper can state the visible, as does Miss Garza when she jocularly suggests severing California, Oregon, and Washington from the United States, plainly a counter-revolutionary statement. She acknowledges what many now suspect: disunion is likely.

Though Garza lies, or is guilty of self deception, when she denies the fears of many:

And for all of the non-Democrats who think this sounds like some type of godless liberal, trial-lawyer-worshipping, [labor] union-loving, business-hating free-for-all zone that would somehow be run by Mexico, don’t worry.

Don’t worry?

These are the causes of disunion, and she knows it. California is now under assault by Mexican socialists that view business, and the remaining white population, as a cash cow to fund their form of socialism, with Mexican characteristics.

Our own political class has surrendered:

“Family values don’t stop at the Rio Grande”, said President George W. Bush.

“In the near future, people will look upon California and Mexico as one magnificent region…” said, now ousted, Governor Grey Davis.

Is becoming like Mexico magnificent, and what about those Mexican family values?

Davis was right, though, and the social indicators validate his perverse wish: the Hispanic birth rate is, 3.2% vs. Whites at 2.01%, the Hispanic high school dropout rate is 44.2% vs. Whites at 6.9%, and illiteracy in Los Angeles stands at 60% ; foreign street gangs govern sections of Los Angeles and even slavery is returning. Do slaves have family values, Mr. Bush?

Confronted by such maladies large segments of the white middle class are fleeing.

“…. The folks who have been leaving California’s suburbs for other states have the white, middle-class demographic profiles of Republican voters. California’s middle-class families are being squeezed out by real estate prices. And Republicans are heading for whiter states where they won’t have to pay taxes for so many social programs for the poor.” As reported by Steve Sailer, at VDARE.

A hundred year trend of in-migration to California has been reversed, now we are leaving. Internal exiles, I see them everyday, here in Kansas, California license plates appearing like mushrooms after rain.

Throughout the 1850s large segments of white - non-slaveholding - farmers left southern states, like Virginia, for “free soil” in Illinois and Indiana, since free labor couldn’t compete against slave labor; not much has changed, apparently. California, in particular, has become a society infused with illegal alien labor, with deleterious affects on the middle class. Like the farmers of the 1850s, the white middle class is fleeing. Also like the 1850s the government is unable to cope with the problem and is mired in deadlock.

Increasingly those that remain lock themselves in medieval style villas, complete with high walls and parapets; and behind their castle walls they worship mammon and encourage more barbarism; they write editorials and draft legislation encouraging more illegal immigration; they profit mightily at the expense of middle class Americans and, ironically, on the backs of the illegal aliens.

Miss Garza ought to know what happened the last time disunion occurred, in the 1860s. Civil war is not a lark, as Garza’s piece suggests; 600,000 men were killed during the fratricide and a president was assassinated.

Imigration without cost is an effective subsidy.

The state needs to set-up an immigration market, whereby (a limited number of) immigrants can purchase US nationality and claim benefits. The number of immigrants allowed in could be some factor of the number of long-term unemployed. The money raised could be ringfenced to lower tax, or help the unemployed! Additionally The immigrants who pay to enter would have an INCENTIVE to prevent illegal immigration.
