The precentor and the dragonWhat is a precentor? You haven’t a clue have you? Shame! A precentor is a senior official of a cathedral or other large ecclesiastical establishment. It is all part of your European Christian background and culture. To defend your culture you first have to know about it. So try harder. The precentor originally led the singing and he is still usually in charge of a cathedral’s musical affairs—though he also is a senior administrator generally —often the next down in seniority to the Dean. I met a precentor today. Anne and were were in town for a stroll and noticed a service in progress at the metropolitical cathedral of St John (Anglican) so we popped in for a biscuit and a sip of wine. (Just joking! Atheists don’t take communion). Anyway the music was good, the service was delightfully mediaeval and we had a quick chat with the precentor afterwards. In the absence of the Dean (who was over at the CATHOLIC cathedral in some good cause!) the Precentor celebrated the Eucharist so also had hand-shaking duties afterwards. I must admit that I was a bit fuzzy about what precentors actually did—partly because the duties of precentors do vary—so I was pleased to meet a live one and find out what he did. He was indeed 2IC to the Dean. After church we strolled down to the Botanical Gardens for another sit-down and had a very fat dragon (an 18” long lizard) come up to us in an apparent quest for food. A very pleasant Sunday morning! Posted by jonjayray on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 11:49 PM in Christianity Comments:2

In their natural environment of course. Have not eaten one though, and in their mad panic, they just might mistake you for a tree. Not as food, but escape. They are as intellectual astute as your average Arab, Not very. 3

Know that and you can then separate the wheat from the chaff, the diamonds from the rough, among the minutae. 4

So try harder” As with all John Ray posts, one must cut through the obfuscations and sophistries to weed out the subtext - in this case, the real argument is that anybody who cannot spell and/or define any chosen European word (as nominated by John Ray) automatically has their right to self-determination abrogated. In John Ray’s mind, it follows that you might as well abolish your own ethnic group (and replace it with “polite Indians”) because you happened to fail a random spot test imposed by John Ray. I don’t think we will ever know the full extent of the psychopathy required for one to take this argument seriously. 5

They seemed to be preserving their culture quote well despite being a TINY minority—and then there are the Parsees etc etc That grumber about the Olympics has been taken far too seriously. As far as I am aware he was just writing stuff that would get him published and he represents only himself. 7

They seemed to be preserving their culture quote well despite being a TINY minority—and then there are the Parsees etc etc” The visit was in Australia? Are we then surprised that an ethnic group can sustain their culture as a small minority in a tolerant, Anglo-majority white nation? The same as in America; with a tolerant white majority and an official doctrine of multiculturalism, the idea that a small group can maintain their culture is of course obvious. When Australia and America become majority non-white, then we’ll see how well those Ukrainians are doing. India of course has a tradition of a highly stratified caste system in which groups outside the system also have their highly structured place in society. Are we to emulate the Parsees then? Emulate India? Not very “libertarian”, that. This all of course ignores that both the Ukrainians and Parsees are immigrant ethnies in the lands in question; and their examples in no way explain exactly why the majority indigenous group should, in the first place, allow themselves to be reduced to minority status. And then there are genetic interests ... Here is a thought. Steve Sailer should become a social ‘scientist’ (sic). He displays exactly the same sort of shallow, breezy, anecdotal and illogical ‘thinking’ that seems characteristic of that clan. The comment quoted above is exactly the sort of ‘analysis’ that Steverino is known for, so, why not? 8

He was aware of what constituted our new country, and it did not include Nigs,Nogs,Wogs,or Turd-worlders. 9

Although I am an atheist, I did, in fact, know the precentor’s role in the effeminate flummery and Roman-derived mumbo-jumbo of the church which is the natural outgrowth of Henry VIII’s divorce proceedings.
