, 34, was shot at point-blank range at Wetherill Park police station yesterday. Her assailant jumped the counter, grabbed Constable Roth’s service revolver, shot her and then ran away. A hunt is under way for the man, who is known to police.

Mr Moroney said Constable Roth, a former bank officer, raised the alarm over police radio and alerted a highway patrol officer, who was in the station at the time. She was taken to Liverpool Hospital where her condition was described as stable after she had surgery to remove bullet fragments from her abdomen. Mr Moroney, who visited Constable Roth in hospital, said she was in good spirits and would return to work when she had made a full recovery. A security audit, by NSW Police Director of Security Julie Wills, was ordered as senior police and the State Opposition reacted angrily to the circumstances of the shooting.

Coalition leader Peter Debnam said it was “unbelievable” that the female officer was on her own at the counter, especially because the station was in a high-crime region. Police have confirmed that a second officer was on the premises at the time but he was in a back room.

NSW Police Association president Bob Pritchard said: “The female officer is very lucky to be alive. “It’s just good luck that this incident wasn’t worse. We could have had a real tragedy.” Mr Pritchard said he would be calling on police bosses to install security screens at the counter of all police stations, but especially those that have minimum overnight staffing. “We’ve had a half a dozen incidents in recent times, which could have been prevented if screens had kept assailants at bay,” he said. “We’ve got to protect our people who are face-to-face with the public. We believe security screens offer the best protection - people can’t jump the counter and assault on-duty officers. “Screens have been fitted at a few stations but there is a big rigmarole including risk assessment before they can be installed. I think we should just forego that process and start fitting them in every station.” Shadow police minister Mike Gallacher said the incident showed that NSW police were “overstretched and under-resourced”. “It’s alarming that, in a high-workload area like Wetherill Park, an officer was left alone overnight to man the counter at the station,” he said. “If more officers were present, the situation could have been better controlled or even avoided.”

Mr Scully said the top-level inquiry would examine the circumstances of the incident as well as policy procedures and training of officers. “The review will also look at whether any further steps need to be taken in terms of the safety and wellbeing of officers,” he said. Mr Moroney said a full-scale hunt was under way to find the attacker, who was described as being armed and dangerous. The 32-year-old Bonnyrigg man is described as being of Asian appearance and, when last seen, was clean-shaven and dressed in black ...

The Asian descriptor down here usually means South-East Asian. The man handed himself in at Cabramatta police station, which is a majority Vietnamese area….and also the heroin capital of OZ. Unlike in the UK, subcons are usually described as simply Indian or Pakistani, like the ‘polite’ guys who gang raped 15yo girls in Ashfield because of ‘cultural misunderstandings’. Lebanese are described in police reports as ‘middle eastern’(aka the descriptor for every second crime here…though the ‘african’ descriptor is giving them a run for their money with our new enrichments from that continent, thanks to JJR’s favourite ‘hardline’ government importing them).

The scum bag handed himself in, but cop this: He asked for Bail, so he could locate his friend who had possession of the Gloc pistol stolen and used. At least he entered the station, most just stand out side and shoots it up with machineguns- then depart for Lebanon.
His bail was denied as their seemed to be an imminent threat on his life, or it could have saved tax payers 72 thousand dollars a year. When 90 cents will do a better job.
And remember, if they can do this in a police station, what hope have the UN- armed (BY DECREE) White Anglos have? And None is the answer.

Fred, take the case of South Australian policewoman Teresa Heath.

In March 1993 a witness she was interviewing got angry at her and broke her neck (hauled her over the back of the couch they were sitting on).

Then in 1994, soon after returning, she cautioned a cyclist for not wearing a helmet and he put her in a headlock and broke her neck a second time. A male police officer had to be called to tear the cyclist off her.

She had to have metal plates inserted in her neck.

A feminised police force just won’t be as physically intimidating as it once was.

One of the best incidents, I actually saw while dining, was two female police officers try to apprehend two females (they struck me as heroin addicts).

They simply could not subdue the two, this continued for a minute or two. Luckily, they were near a cab rank and a lot of male diners. The cab drivers got there first and put them on the ground in a matter of seconds.

What was amazing was that one police officer was severely bitten on the arm and one had a bruised face. They would have no doubt both needed medical treatment and thus caused another two cops would have been off the street (and as Fred says needed possibly then compensation). Not to mention the need to call for extra back up, which culminated in the arrival of five or so unnecessary extra police vehicles, arriving a few minutes later?

What if the offenders were male? What if no one else was around? What if one had managed to get their handguns?

I am amazed I don’t hear more stories like the one Mark Richardson describes.

It would be interesting to see statistics on the turnover of young female police officers (say the first 5 years, they are always proudly photographed at graduation – however I rarely ever see a female police officer in her late thirties) and the break down as to how many are on patrol, etc to administration.
