Regardless of whether he can produce anywhere near the amount of food he requires to live—his admirable recognition of his, and others of his generation, being “a Nintendo kid” who needs some serious time with the living systems that feed him is a step on the long road from deracination to life.
It is young men like this that confirm my repeated claims that when the time comes for people to flee the cities it will be crucial to have rapidly deployable, low-capitalization, low-land use agricultural technologies available for them so that after a few months (when the stockpiles run low) they can feed themselves. Our people will be capable of following the sometimes severe disciplines required to survive with such technologies but they must be given the chance to select themselves for the future of human evolution.
