An eco-terrorist group known as Il Silvestre (“The Woodland”) has been linked to the thwarted bombing of an IBM nanotechnology facility in Switzerland…The trio was “stopped just a few miles from their target with their explosive device primed and ready to go” ...They were identified as Costantino Ragusa and Silvia Guerini of Italy and Italian-Swiss citzen Luca Bernasconi. According to the Daily Mail, Constantino is the leader of the group. What do they have specifically against micro-technology? Afraid of getting implanted with brain chips or something? Government-implanted brain chips may well be what’s in store for us (if the chips are meant to block out “hate,” Silver and Jeffrey Imm would be all for it of course), but one would think the answer would be to attack specific governments, not microtechnology itself. If there were no microtechnology, governments would simply punish and control people with macrotechnology. Are these Italians gonna ban macrotechnology too? It’s like if they ban guns, killers will simply kill with knives. You gonna ban knives next? It’s the governments, not the technology, that’s the problem. (Anybody know how to post that in Italian?)

Well, they may have been fans of the late Michael Crichton, one of whose last novels Prey dealt chillingly with the problem of nanotechnology.

It seems likely that the IBM nanotech facility was not the true target, and that Skynet sent anarchists from the future back in time to sabotage the Large Hadron Collider near Geneva to prevent the discovery of the Higgs boson and the development of the zero point weapon that John Connor will use to defeat the Machines.
