Wrong ideology, wrong assumptions, wrong middle nameIt seems that the recent religious and ethnic killings in the wonderful quagmire of Iraq have proven too much even for the Revolutionary People’s Tribunal of Washington, DC. Head Revolutionary Tribunary Michael Ledeen has said of it “Wrong war, wrong time, wrong way, wrong place.” This is quite a change from his last pearl of political wisdom, when he said (sounding like a cross between a particularly sincere anarchist and a stand up comedian) that “creative destruction is our middle name”. Well, the Western troops in Iraq, as well as the British public, which has to bear the fallout from this conflict, have probably had more than enough of Michael Ledeen’s middle name. I for one wish it had been something a touch less prone to dragging Britain into unnecessary wars, for instance Gertrude. So, why was it the wrong war? Why was it at the wrong time? At what other place might it have been fought? I’m afraid the global revolutionaries in Washington are still scratching their collective heads at that one. After all, wasn’t this a war to free a population from the grip of a ruthless dictator? Condi Rice still hasn’t gone back on her claim that, seeing as blacks should have been given civil rights in the 1960s, Iraqis should be given democracy now. According to the neo(non)con view of geopolitics, there can be no objections to and no negative consequences to giving a people democracy. Allegedly, once living under a system of universal suffrage, people, no matter who they may have been before, turn into model citizens. They don’t engage in violent acts; they don’t make war; they most certainly do not torch mosques for a laugh. Let us leave aside the questionable assertion about democracies never making war. I am sure that the newly elected Hamas government will be the model of international peacefulness and cooperation. I am equally sure that the Punic Wars only happened because the Carthaginian and Roman generals had not paid sufficient attention to each other’s political systems (or, perhaps, had slept through their elementary civics classes). Even if democracies don’t make war, there are many other activities that they do engage in. For instance, executing people for being Christians. That is the expected fate of Abdul Rahman, a converted Christian in “liberated” Afghanistan. He would not have suffered such a fate in Saddamite Iraq, a country which had a significant and unmolestered Christian minority. Nor in one of the global revolution’s next staging points, the despotically governed Syria. It seems that there is a reason why, in all the centuries, there hasn’t yet been anything approximating an Arabic democracy. One can blame it on genetics or on culture or even on the climate, but the fact of a persistent lack of stable democracies in the Arab world cannot be denied. This war was based on the fallacious ideology of Global Democratism, an ideology based on the assumption that all people are essentially the same and hence should be forced to live under the same political system, democracy. This simply isn’t the case, as Prof. Ellis’s now apparently acceptable work proves. Different races have different IQs, or intelligence levels, and some just aren’t smart enough for unsupervised self-rule. It isn’t just Wrong war, wrong time, wrong way, wrong place, but also wrong ideology, wrong assumptions, wrong middle name. I’m not averse to using the military (in some form, or other) to fight and kill Muslims. The Muslim threat is real. But it seems the worst place to fight them in is Iraq, Iran, Syria, and etc.. It must be asked, do we have to send our militaries to Iraq to kill Muslims? Why not just use our military to kill Muslims in our OWN lands. 3
Posted by Mark Richardson on April 01, 2006, 07:54 PM | # Alex, I agree with your conclusion about the restricted application of democracy. Having watched a recent documentary on Haiti, it was obvious that giving the vote to the mobs in the slums corrupted the political process. Better to have a property franchise, limited to the more capable middle and upper classes - at least you would then have some chance of developing a more stable political culture. It’s either that or choosing the right man to be a benevolent despot. 4
Posted by Amalek on April 02, 2006, 08:07 AM | # Ledeen is only a hypocrite covering his spoor. Fukuyama and Niall Ferguson are more convincing refugees from Enduring Freeper Freedom. Then there’s William Buckley. He was more than a rich CIA stooge. He was the godfather of neoconnerie, if never quite a blood relation. His ‘National Review’ encouraged traditional isolationist, nativist, states’ rights’, pro-white, small-government conservatism to mutate into the statist, colour-blind, warmongering travesty we see today. Beginning with whipping up Cold War hysteria, progressing to admiration for MLK Jr, finishing with Amen Corner shout-outs for the Judenstaat uber Alles: NR has run the gamut of degeneracy and betrayal from ‘God and Man at Yale’ to Jonah Goldberg. Now Buckley has hardened his octogenarian disillusionment with what ex-Trots, social liberals, Jewish particularists and military industrial complex shills have made of the GOP, in a new interview here: Never too old to learn, Bill. Never too late to remember what the Founding Fathers wanted for these United States. Provided you can get out from under the rootless cosmopolitans, masters of war and Log Cabin Republicans. Provided you can get back to Coolidge, Taft, Eisenhower and the Gipper. 5

Posted by Alex Zeka on April 02, 2006, 12:43 PM | # Geoff, I agree that we should be ready to fight against Muslim aggressors. However, fighting the non-aggressing Iraqis is both immoral and counter-productive (nobody wants to make nice with an irrational maniac). Mark, of course democracy itself ignores the reality of individual differences. Amalek, are you British or American? You seem remarkably knowledgeable about the American looting and treason scene (a.k.a. the political scene). 7
