London’s Predominant Concentration of Those Who May Be Sought-Out for Accountability

London (AFP) - London has more billionaires than any other city in the world, and Britain has more billionaires per head of population than any other country, new data showed on Saturday.

The survey of Britain’s super-rich compiled for the Sunday Times newspaper is likely to prompt debate in a country where many still struggle financially and where food banks are a fact of life, despite economic growth recently returning to levels not seen since the 2008 financial crash.

London is home to 72 of Britain’s 104 sterling billionaires, well ahead of Moscow in second place with 48 people worth the equivalent of 1 billion pounds or more. New York is in third place with 43 billionaires, San Francisco in fourth place with 42, Los Angeles next with 38 and Hong Kong in sixth place with 34.

Indian-born brothers Sri and Gopi Hinduja top the British list with a fortune of 11.9 billion pounds (14.6 billion euros, $20.1 billion), amassed through the family-owned Hinduja Group, which has interests in oil, banking, the automotive industry, property and the media.

The pair nudged last year’s top of the billionaire list, Alisher Usmanov, to second place. The Uzbekistan-born Russian’s fortune has been hit by the fall in value of the rouble and Russian stock prices due to the Ukraine crisis.

Others in the top 25 include Ukrainian-born internet, chemicals and music industry investor Len Blavatnik in fourth place, property magnate the Duke of Westminster, Gerald Grosvenor, in tenth place, and Saudi-born Mohamed Bin Issa Al Jaber and his family, known for their hotel and resort investments, in thirteenth place.

This year is the first year the minimum wealth of Britain’s 50 richest people has topped 1.5 billion pounds. Only 700 million pounds was needed to join the exclusive club a decade ago.

Britain’s 104 billionaires have a total wealth of 301.13 billion pounds, compared to 88 a year ago with a combined worth of 245.66 billion pounds.

The combined wealth of Britain’s super-rich is now well ahead of pre-recession levels of 2008, which then totalled 201.99 billion pounds.

On Friday independent thinktank the National Institute of Economic and Social Research said British per-capita gross domestic product - often used to indicate a population’s average wealth - was “well below” the pre-2008 peak, and unlikely to exceed it before 2017.

Depressing to see all that wealth in CA. My state is becoming one of superrich and Third World poor, with fewer and fewer of the white middle class which is the backbone everywhere.

Meanwhile Griffin is in trouble for remarks in an interview this morning about the Holocaust on Radio 4.

‘’ “I’ve expressed in very strong terms dismay and disgust at the way gentile liberals and lefties, such as yourself, exploit things which happened many decades ago to use as a moral club to prevent a proper sensible discussion about immigration now, which is what you are doing again.
He added: “What you are trying to do is set the British public as Pavlovian dogs so when they hear Nick Griffin they think the Holocaust. It’s a wicked disgrace.”

Reported in the DT. Strangely the DT also mentions the viral video but says :’‘A BNP Youth promotional video, recently uploaded to YouTube, criticises homosexuals, Islam and bankers – as well as the mother of Stephen Lawrence.’‘

This is true but they leave out the fact that the kids also mention ‘‘Zionists’‘.

I have to say this all rather odd, if you scroll through the BNP youtube channel you will see that most of their vids have around 4000 views. The latest, which is one of the most explicit, 100,000… in two days..

Here is a video and transcript of the recent comments on BBC2’s Newsnight programme by the Indian woman who Farage lauded as the ‘future of UKIP’ and yet who recently resigned from the party citing terrifying racist populism. Has ever on British television, so clear a demonstration of the narrow poles of minority opinion on immigration been seen? On the one side, the nepotistic Indian who sees value in opening borders and on the other the black inner city man who lays blame for their ills on the British and demands that the British provide “the rest of the world anything it wants because of what it’s done”.

“They are turning the election into a game of ‘us’ and ‘them’. Well, I am with ‘them’.”

Despite the fact that I was born here and educated here I still feel very Indian. I actually think you can be a foreigner and have a different culture and yet live in harmony with British people and what it is to be British..there are distinct cultural differences between being Indian and being British…I still identify with being Indian. In terms of the actual immigration policy that UKIP holds, in terms of the actual effects that it would incur, OK, so, it would mean there are actually more equal immigration opportunities across the whole world whereas currently it is actually only, currently the immigration policies in place means that only European people get preference, as an Indian and actually I’m sure as many other Indians or people who are economic migrants (she’s interrupted) ..As I mentioned earlier I’m a (unintelligible) first and actually as a result of the policy it would mean that it was equal and fairer for the whole world as opposed to just a certain people that are the European people.

I disagree because who will be funding that the taxpayers and it’s not their fault for previous (unintelligible)

The way I see it is the definition of Britishness is being redefined, OK, so London in particular and the south east, are like you know a playground for the whole world, it is the centre of the world financially and economically, as it’s also the centre it means the rest of the world is going to come.
