So somebody ran to Google and said we are a phishing site! Thanks to Rob for letting me know that the latest edition of the IE browser brings up MR with Google’s new warning flag (on which John posted last month). It’s purpose is said by Google to be a warning of “dangerous” content. In effect, and used against a site like ours, it could take away our reputation as people of honest intent - at least with visitors who do not already know us. My IE, which I don’t use much these days, is too ancient to replicate this delightfully thoughtful piece of larceny. So I haven’t seen it. Still, I am sure Rob has it right and some unscrupulous individual is trying to damage us. It would be interesting to know from readers using the new IE browser which other political sites have acquired this badge of honour. Not many on the left, I bet. Comments:2

In other words MR “members” are recognised by the system as not being harvesters, and while you are browsing after having logged-in you will not see the captcha. Fred, Danes are tough. Even ones living in Chicago. 4

If you have “some” technical ability you can effectively secure a Linux machine. If you really want a secure platform try: http://www.openbsd.org/ 5

Get it here. DO IT NOW, for you own protection. You may think you are doing everything legal, and a good citizen. Think again. 6

Posted by b on Mon, 12 Sep 2005 00:15 | # You should also get the IE7 beta and use it to monitor your site’s status. It also gives you a direct contact for alerting the IE7 team to false phishing reports. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/ie7/default.mspx IE7 beta requires Windows XP with SP2. You might also consider reporting this attempted censorship to CNET. Post a comment:

I advise folks to use Linux with Mozilla or Firefox. Sometimes I even view MR with the lynx all text browser.
Stop giving your money Chekists at Microsoft, and etc…
