Cheddar Man’s dark skin an example of how mere facticity can be misleading or used to mislead

The recent scientific declaration of the Cheddar Man’s dark skin provides an example of how mere facticity can be misleading, or used to mislead - in this case, taking the contingent particularity of the Cheddar man’s dark skin to distract from the aggregate difference that makes a difference in the broader pattern comprising mutation distinguishing native British.

Mirror, “Face of ‘The First Brit’ known as the Cheddar Man revealed – and he had dark skin

A groundbreaking study reveals the remains found a century ago in Gough’s Cave in Somerset did not belong to a pale-skinned person, as previously thought”, 7 Feb 2018:

This is the face of one of modern Britain’s earliest men – and he had dark skin.

Britain’s oldest complete skeleton, known as Cheddar Man, was unearthed more than a century ago in Gough’s Cave in Somerset.

But an unprecedented examination of his DNA, along with a facial reconstruction of the fossil, shows he would have had a darker complexion than previously thought, along with blue eyes and dark, curly hair.

Previous reconstructions of Cheddar Man, which were not based on DNA data, depicted him with a lighter skin tone. But research by evolution and DNA specialists at the Natural History Museum and University College London suggests the skin colour associated with northern European ancestry is a more recent development.

The research and remodelling process was documented for Channel 4 show The First Brit: Secrets of the 10,000 Year Old Man.

Professor Ian Barnes, research leader at the Natural History Museum, said: “For me, it’s not just the skin colour that’s interesting, it’s that combination of features that make him look not like anyone that you’d see today.

“Not just dark skin and blue eyes, because you can get that combination, but also the face shape.

“So all of this combines together and makes him just not the same as people you see around today.”

Researchers Professor Barnes and Dr Selina Brace extracted DNA data from bone powder by drilling a 2mm hole through the skull’s inner ear bone.

They scanned the skull and a 3D model was produced by “paleo artists” Alfons and Adrie Kennis, who make life-like reconstructions of extinct mammals and early humans.

The twins, who have created reconstructions for museums around the world and usually create models of Neanderthals, spent three months creating Cheddar Man.

“It’s really nice to make a more graceful man, not a heavy-browed Neanderthal. So we were very excited that it was a guy from after the Ice Age. We were very interested in what kind of human he was,” said Alfons.

“With the new DNA information it was really revolutionary. And it allowed us to look more at race, this revealed stuff that we’d never had known before.”

Cheddar Man, thought to have died in his twenties and to have had a relatively good diet, lived in Britain when it was almost completely empty.

Although previous populations had settled in Britain long before his arrival, they were wiped out before him and he marked the start of continuous habitation on the island.

Genetically, he belonged to a group of people known as the “Western Hunter-Gatherers” - Mesolithic-era individuals from Spain, Hungary and Luxembourg.

His ancestors migrated to Europe from the Middle East after the Ice Age and today, 10% of White British people are descended from the group.

Alfons said: “People define themselves by which country they’re from, and they assume their ancestors were just like them. “And then suddenly new research shows that we used to be a totally different people with a different genetic makeup.

“People will be surprised, and maybe it will make immigrants feel a bit more involved in the story. And maybe it gets rid of the idea that you have to look a certain way to be from somewhere. We are all immigrants.”

The First Brit: Secrets of the 10,000 Year Old Man airs on Channel 4 on Sunday February 18.

Wikipedia, DNA testing on Cheddar Man:

In 1996, Bryan Sykes of the University of Oxford first sequenced the mitochondrial DNA of Cheddar Man, with DNA extracted from one of Cheddar Man’s molars. Cheddar Man was determined to have belonged to Haplogroup U5, which has also been found in other Mesolithic human remains in Europe. Sykes obtained DNA from the 9,000-year-old Cheddar Man’s tooth and from a 12,000-year-old tooth found from the same cave. Around 10% of Europeans belong to Haplogroup U5. The 1996 results were not subjected to peer review and it was suggested that the sequence was from contaminating modern DNA.

The full genome was extracted from the petrous part of the temporal bone by the Natural History Museum in 2018. The result was compatible with a West European Hunter-Gatherer (WHG) ancestry, including phenotypical traits such as blue eyes, dark skin, dark curly hair as well as lactose intolerance.

There was no link with other skeletons from Gough’s Cave, which are 5,000 years older, but about 10% of people with British ancestry are linked genetically to the Western Hunter Gatherer population to which the Cheddar Man belonged. and the rest derive from more recent Middle Eastern (EEG) and Indo-European (ANE) contributions.

The WHG lineage is derived from the European early modern humans who colonized Europe in the early Upper Paleolithic, who survived in southern European Last Glacial Maximum refugia. Great Britain was re-colonized by the Ahrensburg culture via the Doggerland land bridge after the end of the Younger Dryas glaciation.

Tanstaafl, “Narrative vs Science: Cheddar Man Gaslighting”, 22 Feb 2018:

To sum up: Even relatively subtle racial differences can be objectively detected, even in relatively ancient DNA. The “black Cheddar” narrative is agitprop, a form of psychological warfare.

But is that fact an objective concern (an “objective concern” is practically an oxymoron) or a relative concern to our racial group interests?

And is it wise to contribute to the Jewish abuse of hermeneutics by pitting “narrative” as being opposed to scientific reality rather then being complementary and reinforcing of it?  ...polemicizing between scientific objectivity and narrative is to allow the (((tribe))) to maneuver us away from deploying hermeneutics while we react into a blindering ideology of objectivism instead.

The BNP’s response (from Freedom Post):

“NOT EVEN CLOSE TO KNOWING” IF ANCIENT CHEDDAR MAN BRIT WAS ‘BLACK’

Recent scientific revelations that the ancient Briton known as Cheddar Man was ‘black’ have turned out to be wishful thinking by politically-motivated news media and academics to justify multiculturalism and immigration – who would have guessed?

A few weeks ago, mainstream media outlets fell over themselves to sensationally reveal fake news that the original Brits had ‘dark to black’ skin.

The usual Leftwing line up including The Washington Post, the Guardian and The Independent all salivated over their fetish and reported it as fact to unfortunate and gullible readers.

But the findings have been cast into doubt by the geneticists who actually carried out the study.

One of the geneticists has now stated that the conclusion is uncertain with others going further still by confirming that ‘we are not even close to knowing the skin colour of any ancient human’.

Cheddar Man, the remains of whose skeleton were discovered in 1903 in a cave in south-east England, had lain there for 10,000 years.

Until a few weeks ago, his artist’s impression bust had been depicted with pale skin and blue eyes – which makes sense given that people living in northern latitudes tend to have such features – but was given the ‘blackface’ treatment by over zealous, politicised museum curators.

In an attempt to determine Cheddar Man’s skin colour, researchers at Indiana University and Purdue University Indianapolis analysed his DNA.

One of the geneticists, Susan Walsh, had assisted in developing a model that tries to predict eye, hair and skin pigmentation solely from their DNA, and the team applied this model to Cheddar Man.

The model had previously used modern DNA to correctly identify who had ‘light’ skin or ‘dark-black’ skin, with a small margin of error.

When Walsh and her colleagues applied the model to Cheddar Man, they concluded his skin colour fell between ‘dark’ and ‘dark to black’.

However, by Walsh’s admission, DNA analysis in ascertaining pigmentation is by no means certain, especially when testing DNA which has degraded over 10,000 years.

Brenna Henn at Stony Brook University, New York, added that we are not ready to predict the skin colour of prehistoric people just from their genes.

That’s because the genetics of skin pigmentation turn out to be more complex than thought.

Currently, researchers have worked with around 15 genes which they believe dictate skin pigmentation, but this “isn’t correct” according to Henn.

Having carried out research on the variations of skin tone among the diverse peoples and tribes of southern Africa, Henn concluded that given we are still learning about the link between genes and skin pigmentation in living populations, we’re a long way off from more accurately predicting the skin colour of prehistoric people.

But since when have Leftists allowed facts to get in the way of them pushing racial-politics and their destructive agenda?

‘Black’ Cheddar Man appears to be a mainstream media fabrication to rewrite history and claim that the original inhabitants of Europe were black in an effort to ‘justify’ multiculturalism and immigration.

Curiously, their ‘sensational’ story also broke during ‘Black History Month’.

You’ll have to rely on alternative media for the facts because you can guarantee that the fake MSM (mainstream media) will, like Cheddar Man, be keeping you in the dark about the facts.
