The Liberal Project Bumps into an Ecological Wall (Part I)

One of the hallmarks of the ongoing Liberal catastrophe that we’re all experiencing is its inability to respect the natural boundaries and barriers of human existence.  For example, we all know that by flooding our society with alien peoples and thereby ignoring the natural boundaries of identity that we are consigned to live in societies that have less trust and an ever dissolving social fabric.  Moreover, we also know that by violating these boundaries of identity that we can expect the Liberal system to experience convulsions of anger, however incoherent, from the body of our own people as they slowly become aware of the dissolution that’s been planned for them.

And just as the battle intensifies between the Liberal system and our people’s incoherent desire for life, ecological walls begin to loom over the horizon.  From America’s paper of record just a few weeks ago: Arid Australia Sips Seawater, but at a Cost

The UK Film Council and its paper tigerhood

The UK Film Council is a mostly worthless entity, that exists mainly to shovel taxpayer money (without any real oversight by elected politicians) towards “transgressive”, “edgy” endlessly PC pap that is way too PC and too much pap to make a profit from actual audiences. The Cameron government has scrapped it, on the basis that in the Age of Austerity transgressives can transgress on their own account. This has led to some prize gush from the Guardian, a paper reliant on the cultural compliance bureaucracy for its survival.

Does this matter to the government? Does it hell! The Guardian is lining up “transgressive” luvie after luvie to defend why taxpayer money simply must be channeled to sustaining their tastes? I can see the kitchen conversation:

Mrs. Average: Honey, did you hear they’re getting rid of the Film Council?

Mr. Average: That’s horrible! I have the paper here with the President of the Council and its biggest beneficiaries saying how ordinary people have no taste, and need government to subsidize movies they don’t like.

Mrs. Average: Oh yes, I completely agree, we have no taste whatsoever. If McSod says he needs our money to make his latest moving biopic about how straight white people made his life hell when he was growing up, then that settles it.

What this illustrates is that the PC media actually has relatively little power when faced with a government that just doesn’t care. It can’t defend the attitude-shaping bureaucracy simply because it means proving to people that they themselves have the wrong attitudes. Not an easy sell.

What if the Age of Austerity was to also take its axe to the race attitude-shaping bureaucracy? I would suggest that the votaries of these would not be able to defend their positions to the public. You can only practice attitude-shaping on a people with their consent if they aren’t particularly aware that this is happening. It is impossible to convince people that their current values, tastes and beliefs are so defective that they need to be professionally reshaped.

So, leaving outside speculation about their committed PC-ness, why doesn’t the Cameron government do this? In essence, any right-wing party has two choices:

1. Do popular but un-pc things (e.g. cutting the attitude-shaping bureaucracy, allowing un-pc speech, reducing immigration). This gives the party votes, but leads to the Guardian and other institutions and people professionally reliant on PC excommunicating the right-wing party from the human race. Result: Government power, but no Islington dinner parties.

2. Don’t do these things. You give people no real reason to vote for you, but McSod is happy. Result: Only occasional government power, but plenty of Islington dinner parties.

I would suggest that many Tories prefer 2. to 1. They aren’t, ironically, power-hungry enough. Such an analysis suggests that a differently-manned Tory party could do these un-pc things. This wouldn’t have to be a WN Tory party, only one dominated by people with social connections primarily outside the arts world and the attitude-shaping bureaucracy (which meld over into each other). Then McSod and his cheerleaders in the Guardian could take a hike.

Debunking a racialist myth about the genetic variation between dog breeds

In a previous entry, I made the following comment:

For dogs it’s:

Canus (genus) lupus (species) familiaris (subspecies).

There are 37 subspecies of Canis lupus.

Breeds don’t qualify as subspecies.  The genetic differentiation between dog breeds is tiny (don’t know exact percentage, but it’s much less than between human races).

This is not true.

I’ve heard this bit about limited genetic differentiation in dogs repeated a number of times in racialist circles.  I remember Jared Taylor using it in a debate with Tim Wise.

Steve Sailer wrote:

Dog genome research progress has been fairly slow, partly for economic reasons, but partly, I suspect, because dogs aren’t really that variable, strange as it may seem. Without breeding, dogs in the tropics seem to wind up medium size, short-haired, and yellowish, reddish, or brownish.

My hunch is that genetic diversity in dogs will prove to be narrow but deep, focusing on a small number of genes that vary sharply, whereas genetic diversity among humans will prove broader but shallower than among dogs, involving more genes than among dog breeds, but not as sharply defined. [ed- this last part might be true- there may be fewer SNPs in dogs, but I’m not sure about this.  It is certainly true that indivisual SNPs have much larger phenotypic effects in dogs, which is one reason why a comparison between dog breeds and human races could be considered inappropriate]

The myth seems to originate from the book Race: The Reality of Human Differences, by Frank Miele and Vincent Sarich (which I also read several years ago).  Miele writes:

I (Miele) then raised the question of dog breeds. I’ve liked dogs since I was a kid and am now on my third (the first two bullterriers and now a Great Dane).  I’ve also been to a number of dog shows and even took my first bull terrier to an AKC championship.  In addition, I’ve read widely both in the popular literature on dogs as well as in scientific journals that cover canine behavior genetics.  I pointed out to Vince that there were huge differences between dog breeds, both in morphology and in behavior.  How different were they genetically?  Had the same methodology been applied to sorting out dog breeds as was described for humans in Chapter 5?  With such large morhphological and behavioral differences, shouldn’t there be large DNA differences betwen the breeds? (It is now well known that the morphological and behavioral characteristics that distinguish breeds from one another are genetically bases.) Vince’s surprising answer was that (at that time) not only were there no known DNA differences between the breeds, but these methods couldn’t even distinguish between domestic dogs and wolves.  Although it was possbile to identify individuals with the same microsatellite approach that has been in use for the past two decades, only this year (2003) have researchers been able to distinguish between a few dog breeds by DNA differences.

Miele also repeated parts of this in an online essay published on Vdare in 2008:

Despite minimal genetic differences, human physical racial differences are clearly observable.

Likewise for dogs. But only recently has genetic analysis been able to distinguish between breeds—or even between dogs and wolves.

Vince’s surprising answer, though, was very misleading.  Or Miele misinterpreted what he was told.

In reality, dog breeds are much more genetically diverse than human races, and they can be classified very accurately.

In a 2004 paper in Science, Parker et al. showed that very accurate classification is possible (410 of 414 dogs were correctly assigned to their breed).  They also showed by Analysis of Molecular Variance (AMOVA, a technique often used for estimating genetic variability using microsattelites and repeats, although it can also be used for SNPs) that 27% of genetic variance is between breeds.  Using SNP data, they calculated an Fst distance between the breeds of 0.33.  A recent paper on a genome-wide SNP analysis on 919 dogs from 85 breeds, showed by AMOVA that 65.1% of genetic variance was within breeds, 31.1% between breeds, and 3.8% between breed groups (they defined 10 different groups:  Spaniels, Retrievers, etc.).  They also that as few as 20 diagnostic SNPs can be used to accurately classify dogs into their breeds.

How does the genetic variation in dogs compare to that of humans?  AMOVA analysis of humans shows that approximately 85% of variance is between individuals, 5% is between populations in the same racial group, and 10% is interracial (btw, this number is also close to the updated Fst measurement of Xing et al.).  The average Fst distance between human races is approximately 0.15.

So, we can see that dog breeds are actually much more variable than human races.  The myth of limited genetic diversity prevalent in racialist circles (to which I also fell victim) needs to be dispelled.

Turkey’s back on the menu

Following closely on the cue of his new best mate Barack, Dave has delivered a rousing endorsement of Turkey’s faltering bid for accession to the EU, and in so doing has seemlessly taken up the role of Poodle-in-Chief last graced by Tony Blair.

For many Europeans, if not most, the demise of the Atlanticist era cannot come soon enough.

Turkey must be welcome in EU, insists Cameron

The Prime Minister has used a speech in Ankara to launch an attack on Eurosceptic ‘prejudice’.

David Cameron will today attack opponents of Turkey joining the European Union as “prejudiced” as he promises to champion the country’s membership application.

Speaking in Ankara, the Prime Minister will tackle fears among Eurosceptic Tory MPs that a Muslim nation with a population of 72 million people would swamp the EU and result in a new wave of immigration to Britain under Europe’s free movement policy.

Referring to Turkey’s membership of NATO and its goal of joining the EU, Mr Cameron will say: “My view is clear. I believe it’s just wrong to say Turkey can guard the camp but not be allowed to sit inside the tent.”

Turkish politicians have threatened to turn away from the West and “look East” if the EU continues to stall talks on EU entry amid public opposition in countries such as France and Germany. Mr Cameron will say that he is “angry” that Turkey’s membership bid has been “frustrated”.

He will argue: “Turkey can be a great unifier. Because instead of choosing between East and West, Turkey has chosen both. And it’s this opportunity to unite East and West that gives Turkey such an important role with countries in the region in helping to deliver improved security for us all.”

Invasive subcon keeps it ‘empirical’

Razib writes the following, in response to a recent paper highlighting the exquisite structure detectable at the village level in Europe:

The utility of this sort of data collection and analysis in the modern world is an empirical question. On the one hand many Europeans are relatively less inclined to move in comparison to Americans. And yet the breaking down of borders with the European Union and the likely need for a more productive economic sector on that continent because of changing demographics point to greater mobility, migration and mixing, which would make these sorts of studies of only near-term use. Of more interest to me are going to be fine-grained analyses of social groups. For example the Indian caste system. Last fall in the Reich et al. paper the authors seemed to be indicating the likelihood of a lot of between population variance groups these groups. It doesn’t matter if a particular Bania sub-caste from Gujarat is scattered across the world, from Kenya to England to the United States. They may all still marry amongst a set of individuals who hale [sic] from the same original few villages.

Good times.

No, an empirical question is one which can be answered by direct observation.  The direct observation here is the exquisite genetic structure of Europeans. By this leap of illogic he can quickly arrive at the conclusion that such studies are ‘only of near-term use.’ Razib wants to keep things ‘empirical’ so people don’t ask important questions, like “Is this worth preserving?”.  This way, Razib can celebrate the ‘good times’ that are the detection of village-level structure of subcons in White countries that are being transformed by 3rd world immigration.  But people will wake up to this arrogant, invasive subcon.  The conservationist instinct is one of the strengths of Europeans.  Making the case for returning invasive species to their lands of origin will be one part of doing what me must to remain who we are.

The Genetic OmniDominance Hypothesis

Given the recent paper by Xing et al and the tendency for ”The Wayback Machine” to suffer “technical difficulties”, I’m posting a somewhat out-of-date hypothesis explaining some of the seeming suicidal behavior of Euroman.

What follows is an hypothesis concerning the (ecological) distance from human origins of human genetic variations concerned with regulating gene expression in general including extended phenotypes.  I came up with it after a visit to sub-Saharan Africa during June of 2000 (mostly spent on a compound fenced in with barbed wire in Harare).  It tends to anger folks of Mediterranean origin because it is written from a Eurocentric view and therefore tends to place undue emphasis on intraeuro variation.  If one is careful in reading it, however, it is clear that the primary “criticism” is leveled at Scandinavians due to the fact that they are most susceptible to being extended phenotypes of non-Europeans: “race traitors” if you will.  My opinion is that the main sensitivity by Mediterraneans is from a subtype that does not like the idea of being physically excluded from European nations that are currently expressing “race treason”.  This is an understandable sentiment and is likely to remain problematic until Euromen in general cease to be an extended phenotype of other nations, including Jews.

Another weakness of this hypothesis is the failure to mention Jewish virulence as resulting primarily from horizontal transmission between nations.  It needs mentioning because horizontal transmission is actually a more important aspect of Jewish virulence than the contributions from omnidominance as hypothesized.

PS:  My apologies for the lengthy front page lead.  It was the most obvious way to get ExpressionEngine software to accept the entire text.

GENETIC OMNI-DOMINANCE: THE GOD HYPOTHESIS

INTRODUCTION

As a rule, hybrids do not represent the form exactly intermediate between the parental strains...Those traits that pass into hybrid association entirely or almost entirely unchanged, thus themselves representing the traits of the hybrid, are termed dominating, and those that become latent in the association, recessive.
- Gregor Mendel (1865)

...mutations are most frequently in the direction of inactivation and that for physiological reasons inactivation should generally behave as recessive.
- Sewall Wright (1929)

If two beavers working on the same dam have different genes for dam height, the resulting extended phenotype will reflect the interaction between genes, in the same way as bodies reflect the gene interactions. There could be extended genetic analogues of epistasis, of modifier genes, even of dominance and recessiveness.

- Richard Dawkins (1982)

Freedom is the ability to express self-interest.

Oppression is the inability to express self-interest.

Slavery is the compulsion to express other-interest.

Dominance acquires freedom by taking it from others, resulting in oppression if not slavery.

To the extent that phenotypes extend outside the bodies within which their genes reside (as described by Dawkins), genetic dominance (including as modifier genes and epistasis, as well as simple dominance described by Mendel) has social implications. To the extent that mutations tend to be recessive (as described by Wright) those social implications are the oppression and slavery of recently evolved populations by older populations when they come into intimate contact through ecological mixing.

This is the essence of hypothesis of genetic omnidominance; The GOD Hypothesis.

GENETIC OMNI-DOMINANCE: THE GOD HYPOTHESIS

The conventional concepts of the evolution of Mendelian dominance, epistasis (influence over remote parts of the same genome) and extended phenotypics (influence over parts of remote genomes), can be usefully unified to form a new concept called herein “genetic omni-dominance” (GOD) as the joint product of ecological annealing.

The bold acronym of GOD matches the boldness of the genetic omni-dominance hypothesis. GOD is the generalized result of sustained competition for phenotypic expression among self-interested complexes of DNA with intersecting ecological ranges. As the outgrowth of the struggle for genetic expression, GOD is perhaps the most crucial aspect of the Darwinian struggle for existence. For a genetic system to influence its own destiny, it must be capable of expression. The less capable of expression, the less influence it has over its own destiny.

Within an individual species, or within a co-evolved system of species, a gradient of GOD may exist from the interior to the periphery of its ecological range due to what might be called “ecological annealing”—or the general tendency of evolutionary systems to find, at least locally and temporariliy, ecological stability.  The study of ecological stability vs instability, arising from evolutionary processes is a relatively new discipline called adaptive dynamics.  Wikipedia’s introduction to adaptive dynamics describes it thus:

Adaptive dynamics is a set of techniques for studying long-term phenotypical evolution developed during the 1990s. It incorporates the concept of frequency dependence from game theory but allows for more realistic ecological descriptions, as the traits vary continuously and gives rise to a non-linear invasion fitness [emphasis JAB]…

An otherwise viable system of recessive mutations, typically co-evolved at a newly colonized periphery of the ecological range, may become incapable of co-expression with the introduction or invasion of systems with greater GOD and therefore become deleterious due to incoherent expression. Having been rendered deleterious by incoherent expression, said recessive system would, in general, be gradually selected out of existence. This is particularly relevant under environmental modifications such as those that occur due to natural climate shifts or synthetic conditions such as those that occur with human transportation and habitation technologies.

News from around the MultiCult

So why would David Aaronovitch justify Joseph McCarthy?

I mean.  Why?

McCarthy: There Were Reds Under the Bed
Sunday, 13:30 on BBC Radio 4 (FM only)

David Aaronovitch thinks the unthinkable about the McCarthy period.

The hunt for the so called ‘Reds under the beds’ during the Cold War is generally regarded as a deeply regrettable blot on U.S history. But the release of classified documents reveals that Joseph McCarthy was right after all about the extent of Soviet infiltration into the highest reaches of the U.S government.

Thanks to the public release of top secret FBI decryptions of Soviet communications, as well as the release under the fifty year rule of FBI records and Soviet archives, we now know that the Communist spying McCarthy fought against was extensive, reaching to the highest level of the State department and the White House.

We reveal that many of McCarthy’s anticommunist investigations were in fact on target. His fears about the effect Soviet infiltration might be having on US foreign policy, particularly in the Far East were also well founded.

The decrypts also reveal that people such as Rosenberg, Alger Hiss and even Robert Oppenheimer were indeed working with the Soviets. We explore why much of this information, available for years to the FBI, was not made public. We also examine how its suppression prevented the prosecution of suspects.

Finally, we explore the extent to which Joseph McCarthy, with his unsavoury methods and smear tactics, could have done himself a disservice, resulting in his name being forever synonymous with paranoia and the ruthless suppression of free speech.

Hearing from former FBI, CIA and KGB operatives as well as formerly blacklisted writers, David Aaronovitch, himself from a family of communists tells the untold story of Soviet influence and espionage in the United States.

The lesson of Ian Tomlinson’s death

The Diary of an Anti-Racist (Part 1)

by I. Bismuth

Introduction

When historians yet unborn tell how the ultimate triumph of Anti-Racism came about, what will be their primary sources in that yearned-for future in which the ground has closed over the last woman of Whiteness, her rainbow children giving her a clenched fist salute at the graveside, and in which no man will ever again have to look in the bathroom mirror in the morning and ask himself what he can do today to atone for his pale face?

To the primary sources for the broad political arc of history must be added other primary sources that offer telling details of the daily lives of the long marchers though the institutions who made the politics possible. The future must know that the strugglers against evil were not all superhuman readers of teleprompters and that some of us had to fit in our struggling with our digesting and our re-carpeting, our loving and our laundry. They must know that the life of the race replacer was not all glamour.

As a professor who has presided for twelve years over the Department of Sensitivity Studies at the University of Sunlit Uplands, and as a digesting and a loving person (though not, I confess, much of a re-carpeter or a launderer) I can supply these humanizing little touches. That is why I intend to keep a diary. My contribution to the projects of those historians who are not yet even gleams in their grandfathers’ eyes is to become a primary source myself.

Let me say a few words about my family.

Bobbing and Weeving

Over the past few years, Auernheimer has established himself as one of the world’s most accomplished “trolls” — people who deliberately lie or mislead in an attempt to provoke a response. He’s masqueraded as an anti-Semitic preacher, a millionaire hacker and an anti-child porn activist, and has used his influence to strike fear into the hearts of countless internet denizens.

The videos have led to him being described as anti-Semitic and hateful in the media, but Auernheimer insists it is simply an elaborate troll.

“I see a lot of things wrong with the world. I use art to speak out against those things. It is in the same vein as all my other art,” he wrote.

“The fact that mere videos posted on the Internet have elicited so much shock, outrage, anger, fear and government response is proof that what I do is great art. I have no intention of stopping.

“If I am thrown in jail, my greatest works of art are yet to come from the confines of the cell.”

The Trashing of Poor Whites by Time Magazine Circa 1975

From Time magazine’s 1975 book review of Jean Raspail’s “The Camp of the Saints”:

Poor White Trash

...The Camp of the Saints shrewdly exploits a dilemma that the world may well face: the moment when the burgeoning Third World rises from misery and forces the West to share more of its resources…

The time is the not so distant future, when nearly 1 million hungry refugees from the Ganges commandeer 100 rusty ships—heavily freighted with symbolism and exiles—and set sail for the promised land of Europe. The white Christian world is a flaccid parody of its once dominant self, sapped by guilt, ecumenical dilutions of religion and “all that brotherhood crap.” When it becomes clear that the passive invaders will run aground off the Côte d’Azur, the French are so “mucked up with brotherly love” that they turn their country over with scarcely a whimper.

The notion of France undone by its own benevolence is a grand comic conceit. But Raspail is not joking… “The tidal wave fleeing the south has paused briefly to catch its collective breath in the soft underbelly of the nation.”

This bilious tirade would not be worth a moment’s thought if it had come off a mimeograph machine in some dank cellar.  Instead, The Camp of the Saints arrives… with the imprint of a respected U.S. publisher and a teasing pre-publication ad campaign ("The end of the white world is near").

Hindu Subject Without Confines

Wherein a 1987 book is quoted as presenting a Hindu counter point to Alexander Dugin’s Subject Without Confines.

PS: “Subject without confines” is essentially anti-life since prior to the organism, the aboriginal creative consciousness had not confined itself.  There was but one “subject” within time, space and mass-energy-in-violence.  This interpretation of “subject without confines” is consistent with the original concept of “blowing out the candle”—most likely originating with the Aryans whose bio-nihilism resulted from losing the meaning of life within the Dravidian culture.  In this respect, it may be that the derivative Hindu concept of “nirvana”, as being merely the refinement of the organism’s consciousness until it is a clear transmission of the aboriginal creative consciousness, is an attempt to back track from the bio-nihilism of the Aryan “nirvana”.

Snappy refutation of race denial

Liberal: Humans are all brothers under the skin. After all, based on gene variations, one race differs from another less than individuals differ from each other. We all share over 99% of the same DNA. Race is just a social construct buttressed by racist social mores.

WN: Men and women differ only by one chromosome, or in other words share 99.99999999999999999...% of the same DNA. Does this mean that the biological differences (including the fact that women can have babies and men can’t) between the sexes are just a social construct bolstered by sexist social mores?

Can anyone suggest a way to improve that answer? (Yes, I know there are better scientific counter-arguments, but I’m talking about something that can get the point across to laymen).

[Update: Thanks for the comments pointing out the number of genes on the Y chromosome. ‘Share 99.99999999999999999...% of the same DNA’ is obviously untrue. Aren’t most of these Y chromosome genes determining differences between men though (so the number of genes determining men vs. women is still quite small)?]

Jack Donovan: ‘manly’ suicidal faggot to the right

Do you know who Jack Donovan is?

He is a frequent contributor at “Alternative Right”, a sort of mainstream radical right site. He is also according to his on-site bio:

a poor, blue-collar man made out of muscle and blood who moonlights as an advocate for the resurgence of patriarchal, paleo-masculine values among the Men of the West. He is a contributor to The Spearhead, as well as the author of Androphilia and co-author of Blood Brotherhood and Other Rites of Male Alliance. Mr. Donovan lives and works in Portland, Oregon.

What’s this book “Androphilia”? I am not sure how to put this politely so I won’t bother to, it is a tome which suggests that masculine men should embrace homosexuality. Not that this snazzly named Androphilia is precisely the same thing of course. Here’s how a highly sympathetic interviewer characterized it:

Across the desk is a man of mien. Could be an executive, a cop, a sergeant, a professor, a tradesman, or a union boss. But let’s suppose he is a lawyer. This man is not your father. You profess to hate this man, this boss, this authority. Perhaps just as you hate your father, for the usual specific reasons. But there is work to be done, and you are confronted, or seduced, by his command presence. A spell. The man looks you in the eye, outlines the task at hand, and your role. And it is understood, somehow, even as you are bewildered by your deference. You will rise to this occasion . . .  because.

Huge difference there - gays are of course all pederasts, and Jack Donovan apparently likes mature men. ‘Cos he’s manly, you know. And butch. And...stuff like that.

When this fails, and he can’t convince masculine un-pc men to turn gay, he has another suggestion for them: suicide.

Muslim rioters: the problem with them is *not* that they ain’t got that old time religion

Ultra-social conservative crypto-something Laban Tall blogs on the riots in France:

“Youths" were (relatively) quiet in France last summer, although seasonal traditions such as the New Year car-burnings are still well-supported.

Every summer, like King Arthur’s men at the feast of Pentecost, the youths await a sign - some strange portent or happening after the schools break up which means that the car-burning season may commence. That sign has now been given :

“Karim Boudouda, 27, was one of two men believed to have held up a casino, escaping with more than 20,000 euros (£17,000). He was killed in a shoot-out with police following the robbery. Violence flared after his memorial service. Mr Boudouda, 27, had three previous convictions for armed robbery. The other suspect escaped and is still on the run.”

And the season commences :

“The incident begun in the early hours of Saturday morning when rampaging youths stoned a tramway and attacked it with baseball bats and iron bars. The gangs then set cars on fire and opened fire against officers. The officers returned fire.”

Shooting at the police is fast becoming as integral a part of the season as a flambéed Renault :

“Four young men found guilty of shooting at the police during riots on the outskirts of Paris in 2007 were jailed for between three and 15 years early Sunday. Defence lawyers denounced the sentences as “extremely harsh” and claimed that political considerations had influenced the cases.”

You’ve got to love those quotes around youths. Laban is criticizing the beeb for leaving out the criminals’ ethnicity, while avoiding mentioning it himself. Well, I’ll say it: they are Muslims, which means Turks or Arabs in France (or just possibly Pakistanis). Members not just of more or less the same religion, but also of more or less the same genotype.

Dawkins sides with the race realists.

Richard Dawkins is one of the most prolific writers and defenders of evolution and rational thinking. Still, I assumed from his books, speeches and articles that I am familiar with that he would fall into political correctness when it came to the issue of race realism. For anyone not familiar with Dawkins work, a quick overview at Wikipedia should convince all that he is a major contributor to the biological sciences.

I read his book in defense of evolution and his rebuttal of intelligent design: The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution, (Richard Dawkins, 2009) and was pleasantly surprised that he seems to accept eugenics and race realism. Virtually every book I read that deals with the biological sciences, at some point, makes a short statement that dismisses any credibility in the notion that race is real or that there can be any heritable group differences between races in intelligence, behavior, criminal tendencies, etc. And Dawkins discusses how he once made a statement that the “intelligent design” crowd was able to use against him, so he is very aware of what he writes and “how” he writes about it. He is very aware of carelessly worded positions taken about sensitive issues.

South Africa: They can *even* organise a WC

Someone (I assume a neocon libertarian as he gets quoted on Samizdata) has this to say about the World Cup:

And it was with a heavy and cynical heart that I read the latest attack on Brazil’s preparations for the 2014 World Cup in the Guardian.

“And so to 2014. Three years ago, when Brazil was unveiled as the host of the next World Cup, the country’s president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, promised a tournament so well organised that even his country’s greatest rivals – the Argentinians – would be unable to criticise it. Now, however, even Brazilians are starting to speak out against the lack of progress in stadium construction and infrastructure projects, amid concern over corruption and bad planning and calls for the number of host cities to be cut from 12 to 10.”

It’s exactly what they were saying about South Africa 4 years ago. And that’s got me on the phone to my local salt mine.

Because the issues over crime and security were unfounded. The allegations that the stadiums would not be ready or would not be up to standard were nonsense. Our transport system upgrades were completed and well utilised. And when the media realised this, they moved on to more trivial, more foolish stories of snakes, race wars and the like.

Sounds fantastic, doesn’t it?

Well, not quite, as he later admits. He criticizes the Guardian for not being pro-SA enough (!), and for writing this:

Marcotti wrote of some long, unpleasant drives in the dark after covering matches. Commenting on the lack of dual carriageways and lit highways in certain areas, he described negotiating one road heading towards Jo’burg as “like snorkelling in a sewer filled with squid ink”. Shortly afterwards came the sad news that a German journalist had been killed in a car accident while driving to a Confederations Cup match.

And, uh, the roads were unlit at night. But, apparently, this didn’t really matter, ‘cos, you know, it’s not like matches take place in the evening and fans might have to get back to their hotels at night.

Why do I mention all this? Simply because it shows how making un-pc warnings is never good for your reputation. If any of them fail to come true, well, by gods, there’s racism for you! The WC in SA was no great success: the television coverage frequently failed, the unlit roads were unsafe for visiting fans, the native fans were about as raucous and disruptive as any in the world. But some things that might have turned out to be problems (such as SA’s crime rates) didn’t, and this apparently makes all predictions that it might have a ‘fantasy about racial wars’.

What is more, the fact that the WC was not a total failure will be taken as evidence that SA’s failure in just about everything else is down to malign Western influence. Yes, the WC was the time when the Western world meddled in SA as at no other time. But the logical conclusion to be drawn from that is downright impossible for the pc.

25% unemployment. Murder rates, including of blacks, high and rising. Periodical loss of electricity. But, hell, at least the new rainbow South Africa can host a few football matches.

Wilders’ next big career move

Geert Wilders, having emerged fresh from his triumphs at last month’s Dutch general election, in which the people appear to have succeeded in replacing this mainstream politician:

image

... with this one:

image

... so, er yes, Geert is going global:

Controversial anti-Islamic politician Geert Wilders has pledged to form an international ‘freedom alliance’ to spread his gospel of Muslim intolerance across western nations - including the UK.

Wilders, whose Freedom Party made big gains in the Netherlands general election in June, says Britain along with Canada, the U.S., France and Germany are the core states he wants to target.

The politician made a speech outlining his plans today in The Hague.

... He says he has chosen the five western nations to spread his message based on the fact that all have high levels of Muslim immigrants, liberal democratic processes and all face Islamic terror threats.

It is interesting that he chose Britain, USA and Canada to launch Brand Wilders.  None of them suffer from the same concentrations of Moslem immigration as his continental European neighbours.  But what can he say in Flanders, Denmark or Sweden that he can’t in France or Germany?

He is an attention-seeker.  But he is obviously very good at it.  He creates waves and I suppose he might be a nett positive for the nationalist movement on that basis alone.  What do you think?  (Apart from the fact that he doesn’t look like the other two gentlemen.)

Balder the Sturdy on freedom of speech and the French-Jewish philospher Bernard-Henri Lévy

The following is the opening only of a mammoth riposte to Jewish hate speech activism, originally published by Balder at Balder-org.  Read the whole post there.

“It’s a great privilege to introduce Mr. Bernard-Henri Lévy, who really is one of the most forthright, and one of the bravest ehm, spokesman for freedom of speech, here or anywhere, and eh, he will close this with a few minutes of, closing statement.”

With these words, the editor of the American newspaper ‘The New Yorker’, David Remnick, introduced a closing speech by the French/Jewish philosopher, which ended a, at this point, one hour and 20 minutes long debate at Columbia University about freedom of speech, among a panel consisting of 5 people and a studio audience.

image
Bernard-Henri Lévy - Deniers of the ‘olocost must be punished “all over the world.”
He thinks words can kill.

The discussion was hosted on January 26, 2010 by the Columbia-Paris Alliance Program and SIPA, in collaboration with the International League Against Racism and Anti-Semitism.  Panel members were: David Remnick, Editor of the New Yorker (Jewish - moderator), Bernard-Henri Lévy, Author and French/Jewish Philosopher, Philippe Schmidt, Chairman of INACH and Vice-President of LICRA (Jewish), Professor Kent Greenawalt, Columbia Law School, Peter Awn, Director of Columbia’s Middle East Institute.

THE ‘OLOCAUST (& other genocides)

image

Before he delivered his expected grand finale, Mr. Bernard-Henri Lévy the famous French/Jewish philosopher, dedicated much of several his long-winded drawn out speeches, defending why some phenomenon he chose to call ‘holocaust-denial’, should be the only exception to freedom of speech. He quickly included “other genocides”.

The reason he gave, was in my view, more an expression of chutzpah, pilpul, or Jewish double speak, than a confirmation of the popular myth that Jews, and especially “French/Jewish philosophers”, are endowed with a greater than average intelligence.

Spiked libertarians on “religious” hatred

One of the most striking things about the religious hatred legislation is how determined New Labour was to introduce it, and how keen it was, initially, not only to criminalise the ‘stirring up’ of hatred but also any potentially hurtful criticism and ridicule of a religion and its followers. New Labour first floated the idea of criminalising religious hatred and ridicule after 9/11, when it predicted, wrongly of course, that there would be an outbreak of mob madness against Muslims. After much wrangling, and boosted by another, post-7/7 panic about anti-Muslim uprisings (which again was wrong), New Labour finally introduced the legislation in 2006.

- Libertarian Brendan O’Neill of Spiked.

Of course, talking of an attempt to criminalise any potentially hurtful criticism of a religion and its followers is being coy. I don’t think Christians are protected by this, unless Dawkins has landed himself in gaol, and certainly not the nasty sort of Christians who aren’t gay friendly enough. It is Islam, specifically, that this is designed to protect.

Equally obviously, Islam and Christianity and the distinction between the two are not actually about your precise opinion of whether god is Holy or Great, and what the best way to pray to him is. It is about Middle Eastern and White.

Having said this, I think there’s nothing to be gained from pointing this out incessantly and under all circumstances. If pc and the multi-cult harms us, we can point out these harms without talking about why these things were introduced in the first place. A speech code with any other justification would oppress as much.

Mental models and the historical narrative

by PF

Reality, it turns out, is multi-dimensional. For now that term should be understood loosely, without regard to the precise delineation or number of these ‘dimensions’. As quickly as we can generate tools, thinking, and mental hardware to analyze reality, its observable facets and ‘dimensions’ appear to multiply in front of us: with each newly ground lens we discover that there is more to be discovered.

As human beings, we used to be quite content with the assembling of historical narratives which described a progression of facts: (1) Caesar crossed the Rubicon, (2) this initiated a civil war, (3) in which Caesar was ultimately victorious, until (4) he was assassinated. In creating these narratives it was possible, utilizing a method of ratiocination which Thucydides elucidated, to arrive at a physical description of facts which had incontestably happened. This is still possible.

However as we refine the lens through which we view our lives, more dimensions of experience emerge into view, for which it is not nearly so easy to arrive at any kind of overarching consensus. These include the emotional and probabilistic aspects of reality, which are in some sense even more important to the internal experience of reality than observable facts, yet which we cannot reach a discursive consensus on because our description of these areas cannot approximate the complexity of the things we wish to describe.

Two critical questions that remain unanswered:

REPORTS
The Neuropeptide Oxytocin Regulates Parochial Altruism in Intergroup Conflict Among Humans
Carsten K. W. De Dreu,1,* Lindred L. Greer,1 Michel J. J. Handgraaf,1 Shaul Shalvi,1 Gerben A. Van Kleef,1 Matthijs Baas,1 Femke S. Ten Velden,1 Eric Van Dijk,2 Sander W. W. Feith3
Humans regulate intergroup conflict through parochial altruism; they self-sacrifice to contribute to in-group welfare and to aggress against competing out-groups. Parochial altruism has distinct survival functions, and the brain may have evolved to sustain and promote in-group cohesion and effectiveness and to ward off threatening out-groups. Here, we have linked oxytocin, a neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus, to the regulation of intergroup conflict. In three experiments using double-blind placebo-controlled designs, male participants self-administered oxytocin or placebo and made decisions with financial consequences to themselves, their in-group, and a competing out-group. Results showed that oxytocin drives a “tend and defend” response in that it promoted in-group trust and cooperation, and defensive, but not offensive, aggression toward competing out-groups.
