Meet The Bowerys Legally recognized as married January 30, my wife and I are pictured below: You might wonder why I married this woman, other than her manifest beauty since beauty, especially these days, really may conceal a heart of darkness. The reasons, in no particular order, have to do with:
We’ll have trouble given the destruction of my profession by immigration but this discarded engineer considers himself smiled upon by fate. BTW: She is a lyric coloratura: From a concert with a small community orchestra here in the rural Pacific Northwest, given shortly after we met. Comments:2

Posted by James Bowery on Thu, 01 Feb 2007 21:01 | # You sir, however, are in dire need of a haircut. ; ) Not when I put on a 2 yard by 9 yard great kilt and Claymore sword. For one example, my lovely college age nieces think I look like the wizard Gandalf and they are quite taken with the Lord of the Rings so I don’t think I’ll be giving up the mane very soon. Emotional respect from beautiful young women as “wise” isn’t something those rationally concerned about the future of their folk should be quick to discard—even if one loses respect of others. We are being killed as a people by the media’s mythic strangle hold on the minds and morals of our beautiful young women. We live in an age when the movie is the new theocracy’s, biologically toxic version of the sermon. We’ve got to take what we can get until we control our own myths for our our own young women again. 4
Posted by Guessedworker on Thu, 01 Feb 2007 21:22 | # Jim, that’s made my day. A musician, too? My heartfelt congratulations to you both. Marriage is a beautiful thing. How did the good lady accomodate your, let us say, philosophical individualism? She must have come a good distance along the golden path herself, or she would have seen horns rising above that Pictish mane. 6
Posted by Retew on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 09:18 | # Best wishes to you both for the future! I wasn’t expecting your hair to be so long but if you’ve got hair like that, by all means keep it. 7
Posted by Al Ross on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 10:52 | # I like to think that you, James, are treated to a fine selection of Schubert Lieder. All the very best and ‘slainthe mhath’. 8
Posted by ES on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 13:38 | # A Lovely couple indeed. Congratulations! On a side not, most readers are not aware of the Silicon Valley and NYC culture. From the outside, those are the two most dynamic regions on earth, so as “inside outsiders”, please do share sometime. 9

Indeed, this “emotional respect” is something that you should attempt to hold onto. As for myself, I am intelligent enough to recognize that there is significant wisdom in your writing, no matter what the length of your hair. 10

Posted by Fred Scrooby on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 15:45 | # Warmest congratulations to both of you, and may you have many, many, many happy years together! 13

Posted by James Bowery on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 18:08 | # Yes the relatively mythically impotent and more puerile Harry Potter series of movies does have something of an anti-LOTR flavor to it. For what damage it does, I wonder, however, how Rowling will deal with the fact that she has just given birth to a son with a presumably Scottish co-national father? Its one thing to render “pure bloods” contemptible when the only child a Scottish woman has had is with a Portuguese man—a female child at that. It is another to do so when her only son is with a co-national born at the end of her fertility. 16

Posted by Rusty Mason on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 18:53 | # Very nice catch, James. I assume she must be visually impaired, or simply a real humanitarian. Congratulations, many happy years to you both. 18
Posted by LilDebbie on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 19:23 | # Congratulations to you both! She’s quite the singer. After listening to the clip, Winamp queued up Oh du schöner Westerwald. How delightfully appropriate. 19
Posted by Half Anglo and Half Saxon on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 19:39 | # As an English Quaker from the southeast PA region and myself concerned with passing on my heritage, I cannot resist posting a comment here and saying congratulations. It is so difficult in our fragmented society to find a beautiful woman who also happens, as is so important to me, not only to be of one’s race, but of one’s *particular* European background. One more note: I have a friend who married a girl of German descent who found out later that she and he were “from” the same tiny hamlet in Germany! Anyway, congratulations and good luck to you both! 20
Posted by Half Anglo and Half Saxon on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 19:41 | # One more thing though: take that apostrophe off the end of “Bowery’s”! Apostrophes are for possessives only. None needed even, for instance, in “1980s.” 21
Posted by Guessedworker on Fri, 02 Feb 2007 20:14 | # I saw that, HA&HS;, but concluded that James’ possessiveness was justified. 22
Posted by James Bowery on Sat, 03 Feb 2007 00:10 | # GW, she did see horns rise above the pictish mane but having put in time with opera she was accoustomed with the sight. But the golden path traversal was rather interesting. She showed first interest in me and I was rather reluctant to involve myself with her given her beauty and background. So I was very open with her about my views—which she described as “creepy” at first but she found listening to my voice somehow soothing. She just liked the sound of of my voice and enjoyed simply listening to the sound of my vocalizing my thoughts. She finally said she had needed “a who lot more” of me so as to “get” me. Now she gets me and no longer finds me creepy but the reality my voice pointed her to creepy. Her main problem now is social isolation from others not imposed by me but by her view of the world. I think there was a Type O Negative song that said it: “Who Will Save the Sane?” PS: I suspect the “sound of your voice” thing has two parts to it: 1) I have frequently been complemented on the quality of my speaking voice with people saying I should be in radio. 2) I think there is something about someone speaking with unguarded honesty about profoundly important issues that renders their speech “soothing”—something to do with “keeping it real”. PPS: And finally, yes, we did a complete set of STD tests mutually sharing the results, before committing to sexual risks. Unromantic but realistic. 23

Posted by ben tillman on Mon, 05 Feb 2007 01:59 | # Didn’t you say you were of slavic descent sometime, ben? With an Austrian background, I can hardly rule it out, but I’m not aware of any Slavic ancestry. 27

Posted by Troll Watch on Mon, 05 Feb 2007 21:55 | # I really don’t need to hear about a middle-aged hippie finding love. I thought this crap where bloggers post minutae about there life went with the unmissed JohnJayRay. Guessedworker should get a grip. This blog is much less interesting than it once was. No wonder “Matt O’Halloran’s” visits to abuse it are much rarer. 29
Posted by James Bowery on Mon, 05 Feb 2007 22:18 | # So, “Exasperated”, whatever your other pseudonym(s) is (are), aside from the fact that it would take nearly 4 times the immigration between England and Scotland as between Portugal and Scotland to result in the same loss of EGI, (see table 4) what else do you have to offer in the way of displays of your incoherence? And “Troll Watch”, whatever your other pseudonym(s) is (are), how do you define “hippy”? It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to learn you have the same intellectual integrity as Holocaustians who use the word “racist”. 31
Posted by Sam on Fri, 09 Feb 2007 20:40 | # I sincerely hope that any child you do have ends up marrying a minority. Perhaps then your ugly misguided views will change. 32
Posted by Robert of the Rohorrim on Fri, 09 Feb 2007 21:13 | # Sam, if you think James’ views are bad, then why would you wish that his kinder marry nonwhites? Shouldn’t you wish them to marry a mere White, an inferior being according to your ilk? See? You White-haters are very illogical. 33
Posted by ben tillman on Fri, 09 Feb 2007 23:30 | # I thought this crap where bloggers post minutae about there life…. Discussing one’s marriage is not exactly on a par with discussing one’s “hat hair”. 34
