The Human Ecology of Sunburns

Posted by James Bowery on Monday, 05 November 2007 03:18.

On a whim, I grabbed some stats on sunburns by State and ran them through my ecological correlator at LaboratoryOfTheStates.com to see what popped out.  As one might predict, Nordic human ecologies are the top predictors of sunburn and black human ecologies are the top predictors of the absence of sunburns.  But, get this—among the highest attributes of human ecologies experiencing sunburns is high IQ.  Now, I’m sure the groveling James Watson will admonish me to abandon my fool-hardy quest for the data regarding IQ and SKIN COLOR as an indulgence in the shallow, pseudo-intellectual ecological fallacy, but it does say something that the inbred six-fingered bigots would have predicted this.

Were you using the state IQ data as an indicator here? Really, why even drum this up? Even if that link SOMEHOW existed, skin color would work as an indicator of high IQ. It wouldn’t be a reversal.

I don’t understand what you’re getting at.  What do you mean “reversal”?

Ecological correlations are just that.  They can be interpreted in a variety of ways as can correlations on individuals.  The way we interpret them depends a lot on what is called our “Bayesian prior”—or our working hypothesis (or hypotheses as the case may be).

The big problem, of course, is that some people with certain working hypotheses, anti-racism for instance, grab control of the government and impose their hypotheses on others who hold differing beliefs.  This is known as “theocracy” and it results in things like Hundred Years Wars when trigger technologies like the Gutenberg Press (or—oh—I don’t know—let’s say something like the “Internet”) comes along to wrest control of ideas from the central authorities.

I mean reversal by the idea skin color being the causational agent for intelligence. That, of course, is insanity. But, I just realized I misread this, so forget it- though I know you wern’t pushing this off as a serious idea.

“The big problem, of course, is that some people with certain working hypotheses, anti-racism for instance, grab control of the government and impose their hypotheses on others who hold differing beliefs.”

The same thing has, and still does happen with racialism.

And again, what IQ data were you using here?

Ah, it was that recent state IQ data. Just forget I’ve said anything.

Yes it is true that the supposedly “anti-racist” laws being enforced are, indeed, “racist”.  Ethnic minorities have the right to form exclusive ethnic enclaves but if whites try to do it, all of a sudden the government leaps into action with Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  Moreover, due to the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, there are more and more privileged racial minorities enjoying the benefits of these laws the moment the step foot on US soil.
