Unwitting Racism: a new line in witting blamism

Yes, Monday 27th March 2006 is a day that will go down in the annulls of anti-racism, anti-white people-ism and anti-ism in general. It is the day the UK’s unwanted Independent Police Complaints Commission introduced us to a new level of absurdity in cultural marxist ambition.

The story goes like this:-

Way back in the early hours of 1 April 1998 Christopher Alder, a black former soldier, choked to death on his own vomit in a prison cell in Hull whilst dead-drunk. He had been arrested for affray earlier that night. His passing was caught on CCTV, and showed that a few feet away four policemen were chatting contentedly and perfectly oblivious of his extremis. The stark separation of life and death in those images fuelled a long campaign by Mr Alder’s relatives to pursue first the four officers concerned and then, when that failed, Humberside Police.

Enter the IPCC and their exciting young Chair, Nick Hardwick. This is what he said:-

“I do not want there to be any doubt about my findings. The most serious failings were by the four police officers who dealt with Mr Alder throughout his time in the custody suite. I believe they were guilty of the most serious neglect of duty. I do not believe, as has been alleged by some, that any of these officers assaulted Mr Alder. Nor can it be said with certainty, such are the contradictions in the medical evidence, that their neglect of Mr Alder, as he lay dying on the custody suite floor, caused his death. However, all the experts agreed that, at the very least, the officers’ neglect undoubtedly did deny him the chance of life.

If the lack of common sense and common decency displayed by the officers who watched Mr Alder die is typical of how any police officer would react, it is a disturbing comment on the police service as a whole. However, I do not believe this is the case. There is no excuse. Far from being typical of most police officers, their behaviour has disgraced police officers and the police service as a whole. Their failures were personal and individual.

... I believe the failure of the police officers concerned to assist Mr Alder effectively on the night he died were largely due to assumptions they made about him based on negative racial stereotypes. It was not within my terms of reference to consider to what extent these behaviours were typical of the force as a whole either then or now and I have not done so.

I cannot say for certain that Mr Alder would have been treated more appropriately had he been white – but I do believe the fact he was black stacked the odds more heavily against him.

I believe the recommendations of the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry need continued attention and powerful leadership in all police forces.

... My grim conclusion is not that Mr Alder mattered enough to those who dealt with him on that night nearly eight years ago for them to conspire to kill him – but that he did not matter enough for them to do all they could to save him.”

Well, the full IPCC report is here (pdf). It runs to 408 excruciatingly dull pages. The real pay-dirt for anti-racist fanatics, though, is that the words “unwitting racism” appear nineteen times. We have plain and simple “unwitting racism” eleven times. But then we have “unwitting and institutional racism” once, and the altogether Bronstein-heavy “unwitting prejudice, thoughtlessness and racial stereotyping” six times and the even heavier “unwitting racism, prejudice, thoughtlessness and mistaken conclusions” once.

According to my trusty Collins English dictionary, which is too old to bear the scars of the culture wars, “unwitting” simply means “unawares”, “not knowing”. So that’s it, then. “Institutional racism” passes into history, a relic of the late twentieth century assault from the left. We’re delving without let or hindrance into the white man’s unconscious now. He can be found guilty of that of which he is entirely unaware, meaning anything. Original sin in a racially Marxist world is all his.

Frankfurt fans everywhere must be delighted by the utility of Mr Alder’s fortuitous if graceless end. Mr Hardwick has done them a fine service.

He is a member of the Holocaust Memorial Day Steering Group. He appears never to have had a proper job.

But how could you rebut a charge of ‘unwitting racism’? The more vehemently you try, the more obvious it is to the a-priorists that you’re in neurotic ‘denial’. And as in Germany with that other kind of Denial, truth is no defence. No matter how sincerely you protest your even-handedness, the unequal outcome suffices to incriminate you. A not-gulty plea makes you a dupe of your own dark side, or a barefaced liar, as well as a bigot.

The thinking, if one can so dignify it, behind the doctrine of institutionalised, subconscious prejudice is the same as that which deprives parents of their children’s love (and sometimes of the parents’ money or liberty) when recollections of abuse are ‘recovered’ by an officious, teleologically inclined intermediary. Unwitting Racism and False Memory Syndrome are two of a kind: chimeras for an age entranced by perversity, bewitched by appearances, and bereft of intellectual and emotional moorings.

Naturally the outcome of this ‘enquiry’ was decided prior to the hearing, in an Alice in Wonderland style ‘verdict first - trial later’ procedure. Undermining the credibility of the police service is just one of our enemies’ Gramscian objectives, so this latest absurdity runs true to form and demonstrates yet again the slough of despond into which our country has sunk.

I already have a “complaint”: the complaint leaflet is “unwittingly racist”.

The outstanding question in this affair is the absence of post mortem findings. I assume the man had an intracranial traumatic lesion ? extradural haemorrage. This then would have been the cause of the unconciousness and the resulting inhalation of vomit. The mindless behaviour of the police may have been racist, or class discriminatory, but was clearly more related to lack of intelligence and to reluctance to assume any responsibility for their charge. This calls into question the selection of officers, their standards, and of their training.
How come the hospital allowed the police to take the man away before investigation, after all the the drunk man who is confused and /or injured is an old and well documented danger for casualty doctors.
The main result of the IPCC report is that Nick Hardwick has assured his future in the police and can consider himself inline for fast track promotion. He has covered the force with glory and advanced a conclusion that only the most retarded, bigoted, and mentally deranged would dare argue with. Everyone comes out well, except those sad Keystone five.

His conclusion is that ‘unwitting racism’ is the cause(which you agree is unlikely). Yet you ascribe ‘bigotry’ or being ‘mentally deranged’ to disagreement with such an absurd conclusion?

Hmm, i think i’ll ‘dare’ to argue with it, regardless of whether we’re now at war with Oceania(and always have been).

How many White people die in custody every year? I don’t care if the officers involved were making “monkey noises” when Mr Alder died. If If Christopher Yates can be kicked to death by a gang of Pakistanis who crow about about having killed an “Englishman” and “teaching a White man to mess in Paki business” and a judge can deem this not to be a racist murder, how exactly do “monkey noises” indicate racism? I’ll start to care about the Lawrences, Alders and Walkers when the media start to care about the Hopleys, Donalds and Parkers. When I went to work today absolutely no one was talking about this incident despite the massive media attention it got. Another media tale, full of sound and fury signifying nothing.
