‘I Condemn Them’: Trump Tells NY Times He Disavows Alt-Right Conference”

During an on-the-record editorial board meeting with the New York Times today — a meeting he canceled at one point — President-elect Donald Trump hit on a number of topics and issues that were tossed at him from reporters.

One of the pressing subjects on the journalists’ minds was how Trump viewed the support he’s received from those in the alt-right. Specifically, they wanted to know how the incoming POTUS felt about the recent conference alt-right leaders held in Washington over the weekend in which attendees were seen giving Nazi salutes as Richard Spencer exclaimed “Hail Trump!”

When first asked about whether he felt he did anything to “energize” the alt-right, Trump said he didn’t think so.

Daily News, “President-elect Donald Trump’s disavowal of his support among white nationalists didn’t sit right with the alt-right, 23 Nov 2016:

In one of his most direct repudiations of the once-fringe movement’s proximity to his bid for the presidency, Trump finally said Tuesday that he doesn’t “want to energize the group and I disavow the group,” during an on-the-record sit-down with the New York Times.

Alt-right members took to Reddit forums to express dismay over the president-elect’s comments, some saying they’ve been “fooled” into thinking Trump had truly taken up their white supremacist vision.

Donald Trump disavowed the support of the alt-right movement during a sit-down with the New York Times on Tuesday.

“Trump’s a civic nationalist which is a step in the right direction,” one Reddit commenter wrote. “His election was all about buying time, securing the Supreme Court and stopping illegal immigration. His victory is important but I hope no one deluded themselves into thinking that he was the second coming.”

Trump’s comments on Tuesday came days after white nationalists gathered at a conference in Washington D.C. organized by the far-right think tank National Policy Institute and its founder, Richard Spencer, in celebration of the “year of Donald Trump.”

Video of Spencer speaking showed scores of alt-right members raising their arms in a Nazi salute. Message board commenters said Trump wouldn’t stand by their cause after footage of the Neo-Nazis emerged.

“Certainly not after Richard Spencer saying ‘Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory!’ and people in the audience doing the Nazi salute,” one post read.

The Anti-Defamation League, a leading advocacy group fighting anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry, praised Trump’s condemnation of his white supremacist supporters, specifically citing the NPI conference in D.C.

“We welcome President-elect Trump’s denunciation of the National Policy Institute convention just blocks from the White House,” said Jonathan A. Greenblatt in an emailed statement. “Racist and anti-Semitic groups have absolutely no place in our politics or society.”

Trump was criticized during his campaign for being sluggish about condemning the support of white supremacists, most notably after receiving an endorsement from former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.

His forthcoming administration continues to be associated with the alt-right movement due to the prominent role of Stephen Bannon, who was recently tapped to be Trump’s chief strategist.

Before becoming Trump’s campaign manager, Bannon was the chairman of Breitbart News, a haven for white nationalist news and anti-Semitism.

DM, ‘I condemn them’: Trump denounces ‘alt-right’ movement’s racist wing and defends top adviser ‘unfairly’ linked to them during New York Times meeting” 22 Nov 2016:

Donald Trump disavowed the racist wing of the ‘alt-right’ movement

He was meeting with a group of reporters from The New York Times

President-elect also defended top adviser Steve Bannon

Bannon has been pilloried with claims of a connection, through Breitbart News, to white nationalists who read the website

Bannon clarified last week that Breitbart is a home for alt-right proponents ‘who are anti-globalists, very nationalist, terribly anti-establishment.’

Donald Trump flatly disavowed the white supremacist wing of the ‘alt-right’ movement on Tuesday, telling a room full of New York Times journalists and executives that ‘I condemn them. I disavow, and I condemn.’

The president-elect defended his chief strategist and senior adviser at the same time, saying Steve Bannon has been unfairly portrayed as a vehicle for white supremacists to influence the incoming administration.

‘I’ve known Steve Bannon a long time. If I thought he was a racist, or “alt-right” or any of the things, the terms we could use, I wouldn’t even think about hiring him,’ he said.

A handful of Times reporters tweeted direct quotes from Trump while the meeting was underway.

Donald Trump held a meeting with journalists and executives from The New York Times on Tuesday, telling them that he ‘condemns’ and ‘disavows’ so-called ‘alt-right’ factions brimming with white nationalists and other racists.

Trump sat for an on-the-record session with the Times, which he has pilloried in the past, also defending chief strategist Steve Bannon and saying he has been ‘unfairly’ tied to racism.

‘It’s not a group I want to energize,’ Trump said of about 200 white supremacists who held a meeting in Washington over the weekend under the banner of the alt-right.

‘And if they are energized I want to look into it and find out why.’

Asked point-blank if he believes he had a hand in energizing them, Trump replied: ‘I don’t think so.’

A new round of questions about Trump’s purported relationship with the alt-right emerged after video and photos surfaced showing event participants praising him and also using Nazi terms and salutes.

National Policy Institute director Richard Spencer, the white nationalist who organized the meeting, reportedly told his followers: ‘Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory.’

Trump’s transition team had already released a statement on the president-elect’s behalf distancing himself from Spencer’s group.

‘President-elect Trump has continued to denounce racism of any kind and he elected because he will be a leader for every American,’ spokesman Bryan Lanza said.

At least some of the people giving Nazi salutes were Jews; while one person giving a salute is the half Asian Tila Tequila.

Two of them identify themselves here.

Say what you want about this being a false flag, with Spencer concluding his speech:

“Hail Trump, hail our people, hail victory!’

He was sending so clear a signal as to be virtually asking for it. Maybe the crowd was tipped-off. Maybe it’s part of a (bad) publicity stunt to “move the Overton window”..maybe they wanted Trump to denounce them??? Maybe its part of a coordinated effort all around. Whatever, it makes little sense and ends badly all around for those involved.

The speech’s culmination with “Hail Trump”, etc., along with the complementary salutes caused Maggiano’s, the DC restaurant where NPI attendees dined the night before the conference, to donate their profits for the day, which amounted to $10,000, to the ADL.

Maggianos statement:

On Friday night, Maggiano’s in Friendship Heights was the inadvertent site of a protest that caused us to close our restaurant to protect the safety of our Teammates and Guests.

The protesters were upset because of a banquet we were hosting for a group called the National Policy Institute (NPI). This was a last minute booking made Friday afternoon, and the reservation was made under a different name, therefore we were not aware that NPI was dining with us or what the group represents. After the event, an attendee sent a tweet in which she made a “Sieg Heil salute” in support of Hitler and white supremacy. This expression of support of Hitler is extremely offensive to us, as our restaurant is home to Teammates and Guests of every race, religion and cultural background.

We want to sincerely apologize to the community of Friendship Heights for inadvertently hosting this meeting, which resulted in hateful sentiment. We want you to know that at the suggestion of one of our Guests, we are donating the profits from our restaurant sales on Friday, $10,000, to the DC office of the Anti-Defamation League, which for decades has been working to bring people together in peace and understanding.

It is not the first time that Spencer was reckless with people’s time and money. The Budapest conference was another instance - he had fair warning to pass on to people who bought plane and conference tickets, etc, that the conference could be blocked.

Richard tries to defend that this salutation and the salutes in turn were done in “spirited exuberance” and trolling “good humor.”

Heidegger, not Neitzsche.  Ethnic consciousness, not racial supremacism.  The life of the people, not the spirit of the race.

What is so hard to understand about that?

At best it was corny as all get-out. It’s possible that he was set up by his co-speech writers or they let him fall into a trap by not advising him to re-phrase that part (which is tantamount to the same thing as a set up). However, he insists upon his agency in the matter - that it was “spirited enthusiasm” ... Mike Enoch (TRS/The Daily Shoah) had apparently Roman saluted after his short talk prior; and, along with Lana at Red Ice, defended Spencer, suggesting that people who made anything of this are being “cucked” by the media, not tough enough and at the level of understanding the fun and humor of this generation ...

... underpinning this argument of Enoch’s is that those who cannot shrug-off the Roman salute as such are having their “conditioning and brainwashing triggered”; and behind that argument is the suggestion that there was nothing at all wrong with Hitler and The Reich, its just that “the normies” don’t understand this - that is the Tim Murdoch/White Rabbit position ...which underpins Strormfront and others. There is reason to believe that it is a language game controlled by brackets at higher levels.

Greg Johnson on the perhaps irreparable damage done to the Alt-Right Brand by Richard Spencer’s faux pas.

Spencer’s Hailgate.

If Johnson’s comment has any validity then please explain how come Trump was elected?  According to Johnson’s lights and those who think like him it is Clinton who should be president elect.  The Nazi taunt nuclear deterrent, along with the kitchen sink was hurled at Trump from the get go.  So, I ask again, if 99.99% of normies faint at the Nazi taunt how the heck did Trump win the election?.  It just doesn’t compute.

This howling at Spencer disappoints me, if the Alt-Right prostrate themselves at the feet of the enemy every time the left taunt them - then it’s goodnight Vienna.

This happened after Trump was already elected. It damages the reputation of the Alt Right. Trump has repudiated them and has always denounced “racism and anti-Semitism.”

Although perhaps we should not stand in the way of Richard Spencer, NPI and the Alt Right when they are making a mistake.

If they want to identify with Nazism, let them go right ahead; that will provide a boost to our superior platform by contrast.

The Alternative Right has one foot in a bucket of ice water (with Jews) and the other foot in a bucket of boiling water (with Nazism) but on average they are happily balanced - so funny!? Now the ice water! brrr

But that’s not their strategy, Bill, they prefer to go along with the usual motive of the right - to avoid accountability - although equally as typical, they are perhaps naiive, disingenuous or a bit blind to that motive itself.

Withness this discussion, “Between Two Lampshades” - it is a discussion between what are now the popular luminaries of the alternative right - Mike Enoch (who coined the ((( )))) meme), Richard Spencer (who popularized (((Paul Gottfried’s))) alternative right concept and Andrew Anglin (the consummate right wing larper):

They don’t step over it - they embrace it, “unapologetically”, viewing it as “pragmatic” and “publicity” that conservatives could only wish they could have to get their message out.

There is more than a little bit of false equivalence in what they see as the reasons for their fame.

A part of the attention that they gain is altercast them because they identify as right, and take these positions which will alienate and contradict their mass organic base.

For example, they say that anybody who draws friend enemy lines between the various European ethnicities (nations) is completely backwards - race is the essence now. Ok, fair enough, but then each of them favors unabashed larping on behalf of Nazism: Spencer a bit less than the other two, but nevertheless - he is, after all, cozy in their company - Enoch, who was the one to start Nazi saluting at the NPI conference, who thinks nobody should be critical of this gesture, whose podcast is called “The Daily Shoah”, who considers Operation Reinhardt a “hoax” ...and Anglin who is the biggest larper of all - unabashedly 14/88 all the way, calls himself a “White supremacist, anti Semite, unabashed admirer of Hitler” etc.

So, they are not stepping over anything, they are stepping into the trap that Jews have set for them to act into - as right wingers.

Typically of the right’s instability, they contradict themselves when they say the European ethnicities should not fight eachother, but should fight on the basis of race, while they own Nazism - the quintessential manifestation of internecine fighting between European peoples.

What do they throw out as consolation in this podcast? They condemn Englishmen who complain about masses of Poles being in England.

You see, Bill, because they try to go below the social gauge of praxis, which would facilitate the circuit breaker and homeostasis of nation and because they are speaking from an American perspective, ignorant of the profundity of European differences, they do not step over the unnecessary stigma that many parts of Europe would feel much more deeply than Americans, a disrespect for the concerns of various European nations - the native English in that example, and Germans who are rightly concerned that their nationalism not be equated to the antagonism of other European nations, for another example.

They see a false equivalence between their “perfectly conceived alternative right platform”, its disrespect, and the notoriety that has been alterast them by the YKW to have them act into right wing perfidy.

...they see a false equivalence between their “triggering” people as a sign that what they are doing/saying to get that reaction must be true and good.
