The Perfect Storm? It is quite surprising to watch the force of the current popular immigration opposition when one considers the state of the US economy. Obviously, the average American is no where near as aware of the problem of immigration and majority-inversion as he should be. None the less, the giant is waking in the American Street, and all this with little appreciable component of the message concerning employment or loss of jobs to immigrants. It is a tribute to the strength of the economy that Bush and Co can even speak of jobs “Americans are not willing to do”. What makes this so very interesting though is just what a perfect storm is awaiting us when the economy takes its next cyclic downturn. Consider the two forces that will be at work: First, there will be the millions of unemployed Americans feeling the effect of a borderless nation as they try to compete with the locust of the Third World. Secondly however, there will be the 20 million plus illegal, as well as countless “legal” Hispanics also running out of work. How will they react? Will they go home? Try to squeeze Americans out of jobs by intimidation? Will they form mass “protests” for government intervention, welfare, make-work projects? And what will happen if the millions of “family oriented”, “freedom loving”, immigrants take to the streets to do more than just peacefully protest? When average Joe American starts to look around the ideological and political landscape for answers as to what went so terribly wrong, will we be ready? Will we have a concise, easy to understand message? The neo-cons had to their advantage the meme that “lack of freedom causes terrorism”—granted, it was false, but it was viral in pandemic proportions. Can we distil our message down to something that simple, while still keeping it as “non-offensive” as possible so as to not retard transmission? What might such a meme or set of memes be? If we fail to create a virally transmittable message, chances are that this popular uprising will fall yet again into the hands of the same old gang. And this may be the last chance we get to set things straight here in the US. Comments:2
Posted by Daveg on Fri, 26 May 2006 05:20 | # Yes, I have thought about this and really a small recession might be the way to go. Somehow this economy is plugging along, held together with tape and bubble gum. The dollar is getting killed, oil is sky high, twin deficeits continue, interest rates rising, wages not keeping up with inflation. Yet, the wheels have not fallen off. We may yet live in interesting times. 3

Posted by Guessedworker on Fri, 26 May 2006 23:03 | # First, welcome to the blog, Zach. Good to see you posting. You are an exceptional blogger and I look forward to enjoying your contributions to MR. Second, and concerning this post ... I am a little wary of prejudging the effects of an economic downturn. There is something in it of the old, classical Marxist waiting game. You remember: capitalism will collapse under the weight of its own contradictions, bla, bla. It seems likely to me that a future downturn may not be exactly like past ones. In the past we Europeans used to watch the American economy nervously for early signs of trouble. But there are other counterweights to global economic stability now. The dynamics are different. This side of the pond, certainly, I put my faith in the efficacy of a racio-political awakening brought about by the exhaustion of culture politics, rather than in some economically driven end-game. I believe we are already seeing the bonds falling away and free-thinking beginning to spread. On the other hand, economic activity on mainland Europe has been depressed for some years. But there has been no observable upside from this for the political “far right”. 5

If a downturn in the economy occurs, I seriously doubt that JOEUSA will go pick apples, sweep the floors, or any other serious grunt work. The resentment that JOEUSA will have against illegals during an economic downturn will be the huge amount of fed, state, city tax dollars that illegals are sucking up of which JOEUSA feels should be going towards helping him and his family. 6

Sorry. This should have read, “Homogenous families are closer than diverse families.” 8

Posted by Leonidas on Mon, 10 Jul 2006 03:59 | # Hello Fred & Zach, I’ve included lines found elsewhere: a) No man is an island b) If race is meaningless, then there’s nothing to choose between multiracial and homogenous groups, and c) if every man is my brother, then I have no brothers. The other lines are derived from these. This,
should read, “A homogenous people are closer than a diverse group.” I simply refuse to call clusters of racially diverse groups ‘societies,’ ‘communities,’ or ‘nations.’ Instead I refer to them as ‘enclaves,’ ‘clusters’ and ‘empires.’ I often refer to race as extended families, slightly inbred. This places our opponents in the position of denying the existence and importance of family, which makes them look silly. The list is common sense. Feel free to expand upon it. 10
