Posted by Putin rescues Chabad-Lubavitch from anti-Semites on Thu, 21 Apr 2016 18:33 | # Around 100 Anti-Semites in Perm call for outlaw of Chabad-Lubavitch in the city and Russia entirely. It happened last weekend in Perm, a city 870 miles east of Moscow. About 100 people protested to demand that Moscow outlaw Chabad-Lubavitch in Perm and Russia altogether. It isn’t the first time anti-Semites tried to banish Chabad, and Jews from Perm. What sparked the latest protest was the fact that the government of Russian had granted a parcel of land in Perm to the local Jewish community, headed by a Chabad delegate. They were charged nothing for the land transfer. On Saturday therefore protesters showed up with picket signs proclaiming, “Liberate Us Russians from Chabad” and “Chabad Out!” One among the anti-Semites showed just how strong and deeply embedded in history that their anti-Semitism is, holding a sign that said: “The Chabad settlement is over the line of 1547.” That refers to a decree by Ivan the Terrible, then Grand Prince of Moscow, to ban all Jews from living in or even coming into his kingdom, because they “inevitably bring great evil.” Back in 2013, vandals firebombed the synagogue of Perm in an effort to burn-down the Chabad-affiliate. That followed the next day after a well-liked Russian blogger viciously denounced the ceremony that announced that a new Torah scroll was being brought to the Perm synagogue. His comment was translated literally as, “Lubavitch Hassidim will host a torch-light parade in Perm and insist upon the streets being closed to traffic.” “300 are expected, including supporters from the U.S., Israel and Russia. Economist Mikhail Doliagin emphasized that these are the same Lubavitcher Hassidim who sued Russia in the U.S., and won the verdict there for a compensatory fine regarding the holding of the Schneerson Library. Rather than giving the Chabad privileges, all Lubavitch practices should be prohibited in Russia.” Comments on the post showed the virulent anti-Semitism that is typically covered-up with ostensible PC. “Everyone who is pro-Russian must come together. They sent their intellectuals to settle here, now they are bringing their books.” “Hassidim are a religio-political sect that worships the dollar, which means that they worship America. They have an agenda to destroy Russia by means of the lies and deception that they promulgate through the media.” However, in a meeting with the World Jewish Congress held on 19 April in Moscow, President Vladimir Putin came to the defense of the Hassidim, saying,“Russian Jewish organizations are making a substantial contribution in the cause of domestic political stability in Russia, for which we are very grateful.” Putin is responsible, whether directly or indirectly, for the land grants – for free - to many Jewish, Christian and Muslim community and religious groups. Some of those grants came as compensation for property confiscated during Soviet rule. Post a comment:

Daily News, “Jewish leader thanks Putin for fighting anti-Semitism” 19 April 2016:
MOSCOW (AP) — The president of the World Jewish Congress has thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his efforts to fight anti-Semitism in Russia.
Ronald Lauder told Putin during Tuesday’s meeting that the Russian leader had kept the promise he made during their last meeting, in 2003, to fight anti-Semitism. Lauder noted that at the time synagogues in Russia were coming under attack.
The American businessman, speaking through a translator, said anti-Semitism was down to a “minimal level” in Russia, while in Europe it still “raises its head.”
Putin said “Russian Jewish organizations make a significant contribution to political stabilization in Russia, for which we are very grateful.”
Putin caused a stir in January when he proposed that Jews feeling under threat in Europe should come to Russia, where they would be accepted.
