Thanks for keeping us company these past 12 months.  It’s been, I think, a pretty static year, as these things go.  Certainly no 2005.  But in my patch, at least, there has been an outbreak of honest talk in the press.  The genie is out of the bottle, and it won’t be put back.  The consequences of that will become clear in the year ahead.

Politicians are the most dreadful cowards.  Fear of the fascist left runs through them like Matron’s senna pods through the eponymous 19th Century schoolboy, and with roughly the same effect.  But there are times when a fear even greater than that seizes their tender hearts.  It has to do with their jobs, and with the electorate - in this present case, the electorate of a country that has passed judgement on over 60 governments since the end of World War Two.

Italy to deport 100 Romanians after robbery

Opposition to immigration in Italy was brought to a crescendo today after a woman died after being robbed and left in a ditch by a Romanian immigrant.

Giovanna Reggiani, 47, died last night after being attacked late on Tuesday night while walking home in the dark from a railway station in a Rome suburb.

Her assailant had beaten her face into an unrecognisable pulp with a stone before leaving her for dead, police said. She lapsed into a coma and last night her life support system was disconnected after no brain activity was registered on the hospital monitors.

Nicolae Mailat, 24, who came to Italy from Transylvania four months ago, was arrested in a set of makeshift shacks on the banks of the Tiber after police were alerted by a Romanian woman who saw him covered in blood.

Mr Mailat, a Roma gypsy, admitted robbing Ms Reggiani but denied raping her, police said.

... However, police said he had deep scratches along his arms from where Mrs Reggiani had tried to defend herself.

The horrific attack enraged Italians, who blame Romanian immigrants for a wave of crime since the country joined the European Union in January.

“We will never let this happen again,” said Romano Prodi, the Italian prime minister, as he called an emergency cabinet meeting.

“We will never let this happen again.”  An unguarded and pregnant statement.

The darkest of all politician’s fears, the one that rips out their wagging, anti-racist tongues, scorches their neo-liberal excuses and leaves them staring at moral extinction, is the fear that the great immigration scam has come home to roost.  It’s almost as if they know it must one day.  They live with the guilt.

As Prodi says, “We will never let this happen again.”  But he let it happen til now.

A year ago I put up a brief post which linked to Nathan Abram’s article on Jews in the American porn industry:-

Some porn stars viewed themselves as frontline fighters in the spiritual battle between Christian America and secular humanism.  According to Ford, Jewish X-rated actors often brag about their ‘joy in being anarchic, sexual gadflies to the puritanical beast’.  Jewish involvement in porn, by this argument, is the result of an atavistic hatred of Christian authority: they are trying to weaken the dominant culture in America by moral subversion.  ... Al Goldstein, the publisher of Screw, said (on lukeford.net), ‘The only reason that Jews are in pornography is that we think that Christ sucks.  Catholicism sucks.  We don’t believe in authoritarianism.’

... It is a case of the traditional revolutionary/radical drive of immigrant Jews in America being channelled into sexual rather than leftist politics.  Just as Jews have been disproportionately represented in radical movements over the years, so they are also disproportionately represented in the porn industry.  Jews in America have been sexual revolutionaries.  A large amount of the material on sexual liberation was written by Jews.  Those at the forefront of the movement which forced America to adopt a more liberal view of sex were Jewish.

And so on.  Here is a Jew, Nathan Abram, writing for other Jews about the Jewish ethno-aggressor in his most secular manifestation.  For me, that is validation enough.  The freely given testamonies of Abram, Ford and Goldstein are more to the point and more persuasive than anything I could write on the subject - which, actually, was the purpose of that particular post.

In this post I am not seeking simply to revisit Abram’s self-described Jewish ethnic interest in societal subversion.  As they say, it takes two to tango ... and here, indeed, three.  The arrayment of forces hasn’t changed since the invention of the brothel, and probably earlier than that.  Today it’s the Jewish pornographer, as elsewhere it is the inevitably foreign “boyfriend” or dealer, trafficker and brothel owner, who plays Gott de Vater.  The absurdly pneumatic girl and the client’s cash complete the scarcely cosmic but nonetheless indivisible trinity.  Given such famous historicity, it might be more interesting and original to reflect on European sexuality and the phenomenon of Jewish pornography from a general evolutionary perspective rather than a merely ethnic or moralistic one.

Judge dismisses CIA leak lawsuit

A US judge has dismissed a former CIA operative’s lawsuit against senior Bush administration officials, eliminating one of the last court cases over the leaking of Valerie Plame’s identity.

... US District Judge John Bates dismissed the case on Thursday on jurisdictional grounds and said he would not express an opinion on the US constitutional arguments.

Bates dismissed the case against all defendants: Cheney, White House political adviser Karl Rove, former White House aide I Lewis “Scooter” Libby and Richard Armitage, a former deputy secretary of state.

... Plame’s identity was revealed in a syndicated newspaper column in 2003, shortly after Wilson began criticising the administration’s march to war in Iraq.

Armitage and Rove were the sources for that article, which touched off a lengthy leak investigation.

Nobody was charged with leaking but Libby was convicted of lying and obstructing the investigation.

George Bush, the US president, commuted Libby’s 2 1/2-year prison term before the former aide served any time.

Cash for honours: NOBODY will be charged

Tony Blair’s chief fundraiser Lord Levy toasted the collapse of the cash-for-honours case with champagne today.

And No 10 aide Ruth Turner, who was arrested at dawn during the probe, smiled broadly as she emerged from her flat.

... Head of the CPS Special Crime Division Carmen Dowd said: “Having considered all of the evidence in this case I have decided that there is insufficient evidence to provide a realistic prospect of conviction against any individual for any offence in relation to this matter.”

Well, not if the reader poll in the Daily Mail is any guide ...

Sir Tom Hunter is set to become Britain’s most prolific philanthropist after committing himself to giving £1 billion of his company’s money to charity.

The 46-year-old billionaire businessman is part of an increasing trend among Britain’s richest people to hark back to their Victorian forebears and give much of their fortunes away before they die.

The Scot, who, when aged 37, made £260 million after selling his Sports Division chain of shops, said the money would come from investments held by his company West Coast Capital in listed companies and shopping centres around the country.

He told The Daily Telegraph today: “This is me challenging myself – making public a very private goal. With great wealth comes great responsibility. We have approached this in a businesslike way.

“My wife Marion and myself are going to leave this world as we came into it – pretty much with nothing. I don’t want to take £1billion to my grave with me. I am being responsible in setting out a way in which this money can go. I have been thinking about it a lot.”

Sir Tom is estimated to be worth £1.1billion. He said he will leave some money to his three teenage children.

“This is not going to leave our children destitute,” he said. “They will be taken care of. I don’t want to burden my kids with great wealth. Warren Buffett [a US billionaire] said that he would leave his kids enough that they can do something but not too much that they will do nothing.”

Three years ago Sir Tom gave £100 million to his charity The Hunter Foundation and the Clinton Hunter Development Initiative, which invests in projects in Africa.

It is strange and disturbing that of all the thousands of white men of wealth in the English-speaking world only William Regnery II has had the loyalty and foresight to aid the fight for life of his own people.  Sir Tom Hunter prefers to throw away much of his wealth on Malawi and Rwanda (mean IQs 71 and 70 respectively).

But with his sort of financial muscle we could create a network of think-tanks, charitable organisations, research bodies, university chairs, media, lobbying operations and political parties.  Nothing attracts success like success, and a benefactor like Sir Tom - a Sir Tom with, of course, healthy values - would very likely be the first of many.

As it is, we stand on the sidelines while they all go Africa-mad.

Can the wealthy all be so very stupid and vain?

A typical piece of non-conventional Hutchinson analysis appeared today at Prudent Bear.  If perhaps the bearishness at the very close has a somewhat studied air, nonetheless the whole speaks plainly enough about the aims and interests of power - and its results.

The immigration bill brought forward and apparently likely to pass demonstrates an unattractive new political trend in the United States: the end of the classless society for which the U.S. has been famous and the opening of yawning political as well as economic gaps between rich and poor.

Traditionally, the United States has been economically unequal, but without a sharp divide between rich and poor in the political arena. Democrats represented the South, minorities and unionized labor, while Republicans represented small business and the professional classes. The truly rich have always been more or less evenly divided between the parties. Thus, except for a brief period in 1932-46, the U.S. never had a real class-based politics.

MR commenter Gongstar posted a link to a BBC Radio 4 documentary which, as he says, is worth a listen.  Somewhat ironically from our point of view, it is titled Peckham’s Lost.

That title actually refers to the abject failure of innumerable government thaumaturgies to save the younger generation of black “South Londoners” from themselves.  It is a 40-minute investigation of feral black youth in Peckham, scene of some particularly savage, recent black-on-black lethality.

Yet another study verifies the knowledge we gain through experience:-

Blacks tend to be prideful and self-inflated.

The poor academic and economic achievement of black people is often blamed on low self-esteem, the result of discrimination from birth and endless negative stereotypes. But the most definitive study on the subject now contradicts this belief: black teenagers do not have lower self-esteem than whites, but higher. Anti-racism campaigners claim that the report suggests there is even more discrimination against blacks than previously thought.

In an article in the US journal Psychological Bulletin, an African-American psychologist shows that whatever the effects of racism, poor self-esteem is not one of them. Except for the very young and very rich, blacks have higher self-esteem than their white counterparts, she demonstrates, and have had for years.

Bernadette Gray-Little, a professor of psychology at the University of North Carolina, performed a complex review of every piece of research available on black self-esteem. Using a technique called meta-analysis, her research culled data from the studies and treated them as if they were part of one giant study, making her results less likely to be the result of chance.

‘There have been inconsistencies in the results of the studies on this topic over time,’ says Gray-Little. ‘I wanted to see if I could find any basis for a firm conclusion. And if inconsistencies occurred, I wanted to know when and why.’

She found that before the age of 10, whites slightly surpass blacks in self-esteem. Everyone’s self-esteem dips in the later years of school. After that, blacks narrowly but consistently surpass whites, up to the age of 21, the upper limit of the study.

The self-esteem gap seems to depend on wealth. Low-income blacks show higher self-esteem than low-income whites. But the gap disap pears at higher income levels. The study also shows that black self-esteem has not risen over time. The theory of many psychologists was that as blacks gained in civil liberties, their self-esteem would rise. But the study shows it has never been low.

The report will confound black activists who have seen raising black self-esteem as the key to overcoming social disadvantage.

So blacks typically have higher self-esteem than their white counterparts.  However - in typical fashion - the results of the study have been interpreted through the lens of egalitarianism which, like its optical counterpart, reverses reality:-
