Thanks are due to the commenter mysteriously and, one would think, temporarily calling himself LePen for posting a video link to Jean-Marie Le Pen’s interview with the BBC’s Stephen Sackur. It was posted today on the thread to a piece I put up nearly three weeks ago. It is worth watching, lasts one hour and is part of the BBC’s HARDtalk series which goes out on BBC World. It was broadcast on 28th November. There are two ways you could approach this interview. You can study Le Pen’s performance for signs of his suitability for the Presidency, if he stands. Or you can marvel at Sackur’s wildly excessive liberal posturing, right down to calling Nick Griffin a racist criminal and Le Pen himself a racist and anti-semite. The latter, given Sackur’s problems in Israel in the past, does seem slightly hypocritical. But anyway the anti-semite jibe paid off because Le Pen wearily and correctly explained that he had never said the fateful words that all liberals in France attribute to him, to whit “the holocaust is a detail of history”. He was referring, he told Sackur, to the gas chambers - which, as it happens, go entirely unremarked in all the WW2 Allied leaders’ memoirs. Be that as it may, the opportunity for the self-appointed guardians of our anti-racist purity to spontaneously combust was just too tempting.
No Briton who is in long trousers and is not actually a hermit could have failed to miss the big Kulturkampf event of the year, which has been on our screens for the last couple of weeks. A beanfeast of white guilt has been cooked up, particularly by the BBC who just love this sort of thing. It’s been Stephen Lawrence Mk II, but with a guilty verdict ... the two brainless chav killers of the inevitably academic black teenager Anthony Walker have been sentenced to serve a minimum of 17 years and 23 years respectively. The victim has been lovingly called “Anthony” by the media. His not obviously academic parents have been applauded outside the court - no doubt by the usual activist crowd - and praised by the police for their “dignity and calm”. His not obviously academic white girlfriend has shed her tears on screen. We have had the full treatment, and for ever more “Anthony” will be the boy who died because he was black. The verdict was correct under present law ... which is more than can be said in the case of the brutally murdered Christopher Yates.
Harvard’s Roland Fryer takes on the conventional wisdom that diversity is strength in public schools:
So white flight from the diverse public schools may be good for the black students “left behind” in those public schools. Of course, the politically correct fundamentalists would say it doesn’t matter how many black students suffer since integration is an overriding moral goal. Integrate now, observe the damage and then try various things to lower the damage. If it takes a generation, two, three… lost to the experiments with our children’s lives to get it right—so be it. Sacrifices must be made.
... and let us hope the last. The release of the identity of the Belgium women who blew herself up in Baghdad on November 9th occasions more pity than anger, I think. The Times article reports:-
One of the meagre amusements in watching one’s country slip by degrees into the clutches of unassimilable aliens is the complete hash they make of claiming to be, in any meaningful way, “British”. No attempt at it really. Nothing that rises above the derisory, anyway. Nothing remotely sufficient, for example, to justify the most brazen and comical claims they make to my heritage - while at the same time advancing quite the most outrageous and perfectly conflicting demands on my tolerance. But then for my sins I don’t expect anything else. Rumours abounded during my long-past formative years that the, shall we say, personal probity of Arab and Indian sub-continental gentlemen was not always of the highest. Something regrettable probably stuck and, today, all the experience of said gentlemen garnered by my clearly racist if not actually Nazi, colonial forefathers must be poisoning my narrow, unworthy mind. I am quite blinded to the precious worth – nay, more – the cultural equality of these splendid persons and their splendid, burqa-encased person—females (and my, how grateful I am to be saved by their modesty from my base lust). But it isn’t all bad news. When the hopelessly correct BBC, an “equal opportunities employer”, cannot elicit an end to the confusion even a right-wing dinosaur like me may allow himself a brief moment of ecstatic celebration.
I make no claim to be a Shakespeare scholar. Even so, I think a case can be made that Shakespeare was opposed to a key aspect of what has become the modern liberal philosophy. One piece of evidence was discussed recently by Lawrence Auster. It’s a quote from the play King Lear, in which Albany speaks harshly of the evil daughter of Lear, Goneril, with the words:
This runs directly against the grain of modern liberalism. A key idea of liberalism is that we are made truly human when we choose who we are through our own individual will and reason. Therefore, liberals prize the idea of an individual “freedom” in which there are no limits to our individual will. For liberals, individuals are free when they are not impeded in their will by an inborn nature, or by tradition, or by inherited identities.
Steve Sailer, fearless as usual, has pointed the way for Muslim repatriation in Europe. His latest thoughts follow on his VDare article of November 6 and Peter Brimelow’s ponderings of three days earlier. Steve proposes a carrot and stick arrangement to produce a wholesale Muslim exodus. He would “deport lawbreakers, cut transfer-payment subsidies and lengthen prison terms to push the destructive Muslims with legal residency back to their ancestral homelands.” Supplementing this would be “buy-out offers paying $25,000 (or more, if necessary) to pull the Muslims out.” I think this notion has to be floated at some stage - and now, at the close of a fateful year for race relations in Europe, is as good a time as any. Here, then, are a few off-the-cuff observations about Steve’s suggestion.
Mira is an Albanian who has not seen her family in Albania for six years but whose earnings in the UK are their chief source of support. “All this talk of Balkan gangs running the Soho girls is rubbish. We are freelances, working for ourselves. Apart from what I need to live on, I send all my money back home. I take nothing from the state over here. I pay my way by selling my body and I just want to be left alone.” Her friend, Lisa, adds: “The last time the police raided us, they said ‘you didn’t get a British passport to go on the game’. But I say that it’s my body and I’ll do what I want with it.”
This touching plea was augmented by an interesting quote from someone called Nicci Adams of Legal Action for Women. She claimed that “the authorities can be anti-prostitution and anti asylum-seeker at the same time. What could be more perfect?”
