In a black cab

Posted by Guessedworker on Sunday, 02 October 2005 00:46.

Oxford Street was closed today.  Our taxi driver told us as soon as he pulled away from where we had hailed him.  Getting to Victoria would be slower than usual, and time – as well as distance - is money in the taxi business.

The closure was to accomodate the final event in Ken Livingstone’s series of special promotions which, with superb irony, went under the title “Everyone’s London”.  I would have named it “London is Anybody’s” but that would probably be too honest and, anyway, I’m not the Mayor.

New Labour’s friends and enemies

Posted by Guessedworker on Monday, 12 September 2005 07:25.

Example 1: It is by talking to people with varying views that we find out what the range of opinions is. It doesn’t mean we agree with what they are saying.

A government spokesman defending past consultations with Mr Armad Thomson, from the Association of Muslim Lawyers, following the uncovering of his true opinions by the Telegraph.

Example 2: Britain’s political police have impounded the entire lorry load of the September issue of the party newspaper “Voice of Freedom”.

As the events of the day unfold they reveal a shocking abuse of power, disregard for the law of the land and the extent to which the British government is desperate to stem the advances the BNP is making in communities the length and breadth of the country ...

The 60,000 copies may be lying in a compound but the stories will be available for the entire global Internet population to read. Such a decision can only pile on the embarrassment to the New Labour regime. Any journalist worth his or her self esteem should read these articles in VoF and ask themselves “is this it?” Is that what Blair and Co are trying to suppress?

Yes, “this is it”, it is exactly what the Blair regime wants to suppress.

The news, as reported on the BNP’s website, that New Labour doesn’t want you and me to come into contact with the opinions of the patriotic right.

You can, however, “do a New Labour” and “consult” all 16 pages of the VoF on that link.

Blacks, rape and the nervousness of The Multi-Cult

Posted by Guessedworker on Thursday, 18 August 2005 14:19.

Some unfamiliar speculation has appeared in our national dailies since BBC News broke the story of a rape gang operating in the unlikely, quiet south midlands town of Northampton.

The offenders are black and thought to be South Africans, a fact of immediate and deep concern to their victims.  It’s traumatic enough to be raped by a physically healthy criminal and left with only psychological scars.  It would be another to be handed a death sentence by an HIV positive kaffir five thousand miles from home.

Back in good old Jo’burg “jack rolling” gangs block-off two ends of a road with their vehicles and assault every woman caught between.  Something along these lines may be what we are seeing in Northampton.  The five women who were attacked - three rapes, two adbuctions in the course of ten days, all at night and the youngest victim just fifteen - report a three-man gang possibly employing two vehicles.

Serious and online

I have just read this intriguing Guardian article about the BBC’s extraordinary demonstration of the public’s love for Ludwig van Beethoven and his symphonies.

The background to this story was the wonderful, week-long Beethoven Experience which BBC Radio 3 ran for 24 hours a day from June 5th to 11th.  Every note the great man wrote was broadcast during this time, and not one note by another composer.  At the close of this prodigious musical event two sets of free downloads were made available on the BBC’s website: his symphonies and his piano sonatas.  I downloaded two of the sonatas I did not already have in my library, and very fine they are, too.

But, as the article immediately makes clear, it is the staggering number of symphony downloads and the, frankly, gobsmacked response of “music industry” leaders that have emerged as the lasting lessons of the Beethoven Experience.

Morality tale

Posted by Guessedworker on Friday, 15 July 2005 11:02.

The Times reports today on the sad if perhaps not entirely unpredictable demise of one Linda MacDonald, the English wife of an African “healer”.  She, silly girl, brought this primitive savage from Burkina Faso to her semi-detached home in Buckfastleigh, South Devon.  He, an “elder of the Dagara tribe” no less, must have felt personally and culturally degraded by every miraculous thing that he witnessed in sunny Devon.  In any event, he “became disorientated” and battered her to death, even though his flight home to Burkina Faso was about to be booked.

I don’t generally copy & paste articles as they stand.  But, as the judge at Exeter Crown Court said while sentencing the gentleman concerned, “The circumstances of this case are so extraordinary ...”  Not least, I would add, because the happy couple didn’t speak a word of one another’s language.  Amazing what a primitive African penis can do for a girl - one of the few erections in Africa that convinces anybody, I should think.  But the dippiness of the whole venture is perhaps best encapsulated by Miss MacDonald’s stunning attempt to challenge the global pharmaceutical industry in gentle, quiet Buckfastleigh by setting up her wonderful new husband as a traditional healer.  Does that sound like a runner commercially to you?  Thought not - the African record on disease being what it is and all.

Young, gifted and a figment of the liberal imagination

Posted by Guessedworker on Saturday, 25 June 2005 23:18.

The Voice is Britain’s best established black newspaper.  It has much to commend it, no doubt.  For example, there’s a culture page and a fascinating page of international news:-

TUPAC’S CULT KILLER - Member of Tupac cult “chops off daughter’s head and tosses decapitated body into local river”.
HIV ACTIVIST SLAMS COPS - A HIV/Aids activist in Swaziland has called on the police to stop arresting prostitutes.
COURTS CALL FOR GOVT BAN ON DEATH PENALTY - THE Ugandan courts have ordered the government to amend laws that impose the death penalty for certain serious crimes.

All good stuff ... or stuff anyway.  But it was really the careers page that caught my interest.  I thought I might check out what kind of businesses are hungrily searching out ambitious, young, go-getting readers of The Voice.  After all, one has grown mightily suspicious of all those super-smart black men and women that wander nightly across our TV screens - you know, the ones with the indispensable leadership qualities, cutting-edge techie skills and smooth moves no white member of the opposite sex can resist.  Time to find out whether we are being unfair, even prejudiced and just plain ignorant in writing off such “positive images” as all bloody lies, frankly, and social engineering so blatent the liberal media should be seconded en masse for 10 years to Congo TV.

Nudity in Pamplona.  Fancy dress at Stonehenge.  Naked ambition in Manchester.

Posted by Guessedworker on Tuesday, 21 June 2005 15:28.

A mixed bag from this morning’s British press, national and local ...

First up, probably literally, is the fiesty Sabina Arthurs of Brighouse, Yorkshire.  She is planning to run with the bull in Pamplona next month.  But ... she’s going to do it stark naked.  It’s her way of protesting, of course.  Naked protesters against animal cruelty did the same thing last year.  We are not told whether they left any little things behind afterwards.

Now alright, this display of bovine solidarity may bring the eponymous, testosterone-soaked Spanish male to the realisation that bullfighting is very cruel.  Very, very cruel.  But there again it may not.  Indeed, he may, on hearing Sabina’s uplifting news, ask himself not “Is she right about the bulls?” but “Is she a looker?”  My guess: he will and she is.  Or the local paper wouldn’t be interviewing her.  Alas, there is no picture on-line by which we may judge this important issue.

Oh bloody hell 2

Posted by Guessedworker on Wednesday, 30 March 2005 19:02.

The Times reports today on the sad - or, at least not gay - closure by the local education authority of the Lady of Elche International School in Alicante province of Spain.

“Mr Drewitt and Mr Barlow sold their dermatological- testing business for £3.8 million and moved to Spain with their children two years ago. They felt that Spanish attitudes to homosexuality were more relaxed — under legislation introduced by Spain’s Government, they will be able to marry soon — yet their twins, Aspen and Saffron, were bullied at their school in Torrevieja, 27 miles south of Alicante, because of their parenthood.”

Yes, you read that right.  The lovers have twin five year old sons born to a surrogate mother.  You can buy anything you want today.  Except psychological stability.  Those of the love that used dare not speak its name now dare give those they cannot adequately love daft bloody names like Aspen and Saffron, and deny them for ever both the inner substance and the deep love of Woman which is every son’s birthright.  Poor little sods.
