Sit Vacant

Posted by Guessedworker on Sunday, 06 November 2005 22:36.

Today MR lost one of its two most active bloggers, the rumbustuous, irrepressible Geoff Beck.  Gone are the exhortations to feeble men to march on Washington (with guns, of course) and gone too the sudden, brilliant and unsuspected pieces of gold-digger’s research that reverberated beyond our page and into the wider blogosphere.  I have quite grown accustomed to waking up daily at 7.00am and firing up the PC to see what Agincourt Geoff was starting while I was yet abed in England.  I will miss that moment of discovery each morning.

The first thing to do, then, is to thank Geoff for the prodigious effort he has put in.  It was not simply for our entertainment – though he was often entertaining - and not just for the sake of the blog.  He laboured for the people he loves and believes in and desires to see survive, and I only wish there were many more people like him.

So somebody ran to Google and said we are a phishing site!

Thanks to Rob for letting me know that the latest edition of the IE browser brings up MR with Google’s new warning flag (on which John posted last month).  It’s purpose is said by Google to be a warning of “dangerous” content.  In effect, and used against a site like ours, it could take away our reputation as people of honest intent - at least with visitors who do not already know us.

My IE, which I don’t use much these days, is too ancient to replicate this delightfully thoughtful piece of larceny.  So I haven’t seen it.  Still, I am sure Rob has it right and some unscrupulous individual is trying to damage us.

It would be interesting to know from readers using the new IE browser which other political sites have acquired this badge of honour.  Not many on the left, I bet.

Wrong welcome

The post below, concerning Mr Lahn’s new thesis, is a first offering by Søren Renner.  Alas, I logged him on our members list complete with the Danish slashed “o”, which our software couldn’t accomodate (in blue type, not black!).  All efforts to correct it have so far proved fruitless.

So would you please bear in mind that Søren’s first post, made inglorious by EE’s non-mastery of Danish and my non-mastery of EE, is indeed this one.

Apologies to Søren.  From here on it will have to be slashless o’s in blue.

An Introduction

Posted by Guest Blogger on Wednesday, 10 August 2005 20:18.

This is my first post on majority rights.  I am a young journalist, and I’m still involved with the conservative movement, though I find it completely worthless.  But because, I do write for some mainstream outlets and what I will say could give me the Kevin Lamb/Sam Francis treatment, I am using a pseudonym.

A sounding board

Posted by Guessedworker on Tuesday, 02 August 2005 08:15.

For some weeks I’ve been putting off the major revamp the site needs.  The delay arises purely from the extreme, shekel-counting demands of having a seriously pianistic offspring, I’m afraid.  But the GW household now sports two grands side-by-side in our principal room, one of them a concert-quality monster of wondrous power and beauty.  I’m thinking about other matters again, and where MR goes from here.

The revamp must do far more than just enliven its general appearance (yes, I know it’s dowdy as it stands!).  Content-wise, the plan is to continue the existing MR main page as now, committed to general and political commentary.  Accessible from it there will be an OpenMajority thread for non-main board debate on the hoof - whatever you want to talk about, basically.  And there will be a specific MajoritySciences page bringing together all the past scientific contributions by Matt, John, JW and JR.  I hope in time it will develop into a really worthwhile and “majority-conscious” scientific forum.  At least it will have the chance to do so.

But I’m also considering setting up a further addition, and this idea I want to test on you.

It is often said of blogs like MR that we are basically grumpy old white men complaining about the loss of a world that never existed anyway.  I’ve seen this sort of comment on the radical right as well as the left.  True or not, we can dispense with it quite easily.

All that is required is a board here wholly dedicated to the exploration of positive proposals for the future of European Man.  Initially, I’m thinking specifically of all the subject areas - the design, morality, politics, demographics, technical logistics, economics et al - that describe the emergence of a white ethno-state in America.  We might call it MajorityAmerica.  But ... from where do we find the writers with genuine expertise and specialisms in these areas who are free and willing to contribute to this exercise?  That’s the problem.

The alternative would be to run the page as a dedicated open thread.  But that would be too conversational, I think, to produce really interesting and informed thinking - and I don’t intend any disrespect to MR commenters there.  But I, for one, would defer on, say, the subject (in my case) of returning England to its own people to those with genuine expertise in the specialisms that might involve.

OK, that’s where we are with it right now.  Just an idea, though I think quite an important one.  Do you have any thoughts about it?

First half-million

A few moments ago we cleared 500,000 hits since launch day.  That’s rather better, I feel, than an OK start for a new venture in a crowded market.  On behalf of everyone who labours here thank you for troubling to read us.  To our commentariat, many of whom I feel I have come to know as friends, a particularly warm thanks.  Your views, knowledge, good humour and articulacy are not wasted here.

Next stop six zeros.

Coming to a blog one day near you?

Censorship by the self-removal of key words from internet discussion is being forced upon users of a new Microsoft blogging service in China.  The blog tool developed for MSN Spaces, launched in China last month by Shanghai MSN Network Communications Technology, aims at preventing government-sensitive issues from being raised online.

So type a “subversive” word or term on your keyboard and up pops an instruction to delete it.  Offenders include:-

freedom, democracy, human rights, communism, socialism, capitalism, Taiwanese independence, Tibet, Dalai Lama, Falun Gong, terrorism, massacre, Tiananmen, demonstration

The names of senior Chinese politicians will also trigger the deletion order.

PID RIP

Posted by Guessedworker on Monday, 23 May 2005 17:43.

This morning Tim Gillin, ace Aussie blogger, advised me that he has had to close his Personal Independence Day blog due to the heavy demands of his work.  This is very sad - but not necessarily for MR readers.  Tim will continue commenting here and, I hope, occasionally benefitting us with a post (that’s an arm-twist, Tim).

As a thoughtful and entertaining writer and pretty much, in British terms anyway, a man of the libertarian wing of the Conservative Party, Tim is altogether too useful to allow just to float off among the unblog people.  We profit from political breadth and variety because that is the catalyst for good debate and new understanding.

Good luck anyhow, Tim.  Just don’t forget where we are.
